Herbal plants show a growing interest in natural antioxidant, also play an important role in the treatment of muscle pain, stomach problems, wounds etc. About 75 to 80% of the world population uses herbal medicine. One such herb (Marine Plants) used in the treatment of cancer is Syringodium isoetifolium. In a previous study, Syringodium isoetifolium  with three different extracts (Aqueous, ethanol and 70% hydroalcohol) proves the presence of phytocompound such as Tannin, Saponin, Flavonoids, Stroids, Terpenoids, coumarin etc and also has high antioxidant activity. The current study aims to identify the bioactive compounds from the hydroalcoholic extract of Syringodium isoetifolium. The photo components present in the hydroalcoholic extract was determined by GC-MS Analysis and the mass spectra of compounds present in the extract were matched with the National Institute of Standards and Technology library.  20 different phytocompounds were found to be present in the hydroalcoholic extract of Syringodium isoetifolium using GC-MS analysis. Some of the important phytocompounds are Hexanoic acid, Methyl ester, Octadecanoic acid, 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, bis(2-methylpropyl) ester, 1-Isopropylidene-3-methyl-3-vinylcyclobutane.  The study reveals that the identified phytocompounds from the hydroalcoholic extract of Syringodium isoetifolium has essential biological activities such as Antibacterial, Antifungal, Antimicrobial, Antifouling and Anticancer properties. Further depth of the study will deal with the exact mode of action of the phytocompounds.

These plants contain various phytochemical constituents having biological activities. Seaweeds are the source of phytochemicals namely agar-agar, carrageenan and algin, which are extensively used in various industries such as food, confectionary, textiles, pharmaceuticals, dairy and paper industries mostly as gelling, stabilizing and thickening agents. They are also used for human consumption, animal feed and as manure in several countries. Several Asian countries are using various seaweeds in traditional medicines. Methods: In the present study, the shade dried and methanolic extract of Cladophora glomerata, a marine green algae was subjected to preliminary phytochemical and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis(GC-MS) to identify the various bioactive components. Results: The methanolic extract of Cladophora glomerata revealed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, saponins, diterpenes and carbohydrates. The GC-MS analysis of the methanolic extract of Cladophora glomerata showed the presence of 42 different compounds. This review presents the detailed account of factors leading to cancer and design strategy for the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives as anticancer agents. The recent survey for cancer treatment in Cancer facts and figures 2017 American Chemical Society has shown progressive development in fighting cancer. Researchers all over the world in both developed and developing countries are in a continuous effort to tackle this serious concern. Benzimidazole and its derivatives showed a broad range of biological activities due to their resemblance with naturally occurring nitrogenous base i.e. purine. The review discussed benzimidazole derivatives showing anticancer properties through a different mechanism viz. intercalation, alkylating agents, topoisomerases, DHFR enzymes, and tubulin inhibitors. Benzimidazole derivatives act through a different mechanism and the substituents reported from the earlier and recent research articles are prerequisites for the synthesis of targeted based benzimidazole derivatives as anticancer agents. The review focuses on an easy comparison of the substituent essential for potency and selectivity through SAR presented in figures. This will further provide a better outlook or fulfills the challenges faced in the development of novel benzimidazole derivatives as anticancer.

Background: Lichens which are betide to mangroves are termed as Manglicolous Lichens (ML). As these ML are habituated under stress conditions, they are screened for unique metabolites and biological activities. Objective: The study aimed to establish the chemical and biological profile of ML, Graphis ajarekarii. Methods: The Ethyl Acetate Extract of G. ajarekarii (EAE) was subjected to chromatographic techniques and the obtained isolates were characterized by spectroscopic analysis. The hydroalcoholic extract of G. ajarekarii (AE), EAE, isolates and Hydroalcoholic Extract of host (HE) were evaluated for fibrinolytic (fibrin clot method), in vitro (protein denaturation method) and in vivo (formalin-induced rat paw oedema assay), anti-inflammatory and cytotoxicity (MTT assay) activities. Results: Chemical investigation of the EAE led to the isolation of two known compounds namely atranorin (1) and ribenone (2), which were confirmed by spectral data. The AE and EAE gradually lysed the fibrin clot with 94.54 and 65.07%, respectively, at 24 h. The AE inhibited protein denaturation of about 88.06%, while the standard (Indomethacin) with 93.62%. Similarly, the in vivo antiinflammatory analysis of AE (200 mg/mL) showed potent reduction of rat paw oedema than the standard, whereas EAE and 1 depicted moderate depletion. In addition, the AE revealed prominence inhibition on MCF-7, DU145 and K-562 with IC50 values of 69.5, 42.5 and 38 µg/mL, respectively, whereas the HE exhibited mild inhibitory profile against fibrin clot, inflammation and cancer. Conclusion: From the results, it can be concluded that the G. ajarekarii has an aptitude to act against coagulation, inflammation and cancer cells.

The search for safe and effective anticancer therapies is one of the major challenges of the 21st century. The ineffective treatment of cancers, classified as civilization diseases, contributes to a decreased quality of life, health loss, and premature mortality in oncological patients. Many natural phytochemicals have anticancer potential. Pentacyclic triterpenoids, characterized by six- and five-membered ring structures, are one of the largest class of natural metabolites sourced from the plant kingdom. Among the known natural triterpenoids, we can distinguish lupane-, oleanane-, and ursane-types. Pentacyclic triterpenoids are known to have many biological activities, e.g., anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Unfortunately, they are also characterized by poor water solubility and, hence, low bioavailability. These pharmacological properties may be improved by both introducing some modifications to their native structures and developing novel delivery systems based on the latest nanotechnological achievements. The development of nanocarrier-delivery systems is aimed at increasing the transport capacity of bioactive compounds by enhancing their solubility, bioavailability, stability in vivo and ensuring tumor-targeting while their toxicity and risk of side effects are significantly reduced. Nanocarriers may vary in sizes, constituents, shapes, and surface properties, all of which affect the ultimate efficacy and safety of a given anticancer therapy, as presented in this review. The presented results demonstrate the high antitumor potential of systems for delivery of pentacyclic triterpenoids.

Indigenous mango (Mangifera indica L.) varieties have unique aroma, taste, flavour, texture and size. The interactions among volatile compounds and with sugars and acids have a role in the distinct mango flavor. Murshidabad district of West Bengal has several indigenous mango varieties that have unique attributes like taste and aroma. The indigenous Champa mango variety of Murshidabad district has a distinct aroma very similar to that of the champaka flower (Michelia champaca L.). The present investigation was to determine if there was any phyto-chemical which could be responsible for the distinct and unique aroma present in the mango variety Champa. Eugenol, a phytogenic bioactive component frequently found in diversified herbal plants was found by GC-MS analysis of the methanolic extract of the fruit pulp of indigenous mango variety, Champa.
