The paper is dedicated to urban-type settlements and their place in the Russian regional settlement system. The peculiarities of urban-type settlement development are considered, their distribution is identified, the economic and geographical location of cities and urban-type settlements is compared. The variants of different types of urban-type settlements are suggested.

One of the urgent tasks of the state policy of spatial development is the introduction of a permanent system for monitoring the socio-economic development of municipalities (at least at the level of municipal and districts), for which, as stated in the article, it is necessary to develop typologies of municipalities. It is advisable to generalize and analyze statistical information on municipalities on the basis of its automatic processing for different types of territories. The article analyzes the existing experience of the EU and the OECD in the typology of regions comparable to Russian municipal districts, and also summarizes the experience accumulated in Russia in the typologization of territories – municipalities in general, cities. It is shown that the basic typology can and should be based on an assessment of the settlement system – the ratio of urban and rural population, population density, the presence of a large urban center or proximity to it. Additionally, it is also important to take into account natural and climatic conditions, geographical location, sustainable economic specialization, and administrative status.

Rain microstructure parameters assessed by disdrometers are commonly used to classify rain into convective and stratiform. However, different types of disdrometer result in different values for these parameters. This in turn potentially deteriorates the quality of rain type classifications. Thies disdrometer measurements at two sites in Bavaria in southern Germany were combined with cloud observations to construct a set of clear convective and stratiform intervals. This reference dataset was used to study the performance of classification methods from the literature based on the rain microstructure. We also explored the possibility of improving the performance of these methods by tuning the decision boundary. We further identified highly discriminant rain microstructure parameters and used these parameters in five machine-learning classification models. Our results confirm the potential of achieving high classification performance by applying the concepts of machine learning compared to already available methods. Machine-learning classification methods provide a concrete and flexible procedure that is applicable regardless of the geographical location or the device. The suggested procedure for classifying rain types is recommended prior to studying rain microstructure variability or any attempts at improving radar estimations of rain intensity.

The article discusses the issue of sustainable development of the regional settlement system and its elements (municipalities). The authors proposed the principles of territorial planning of the regional system of settlement and classification of the urban conflicts of motivations. Developed a theoretical model of sustainable development of regional systems of settlement, including the examination of particular characteristics of the territory, the definition of "code" identity of the territory, its adaptive development over time, identifying areas of conflict motivations and their solution in solving problems of territorial planning.

The article represents general characteristics of the scythian time hillforts in the Dnieper left-bank forest-steppe. The reasons of building the hillforts, history of their investigations and existing typologies are described. Based on the investigation of constructive solutions which were used by scythian time population the typology of hillforts is offered. Analysys of natural conditions of the sites helped to construct typology of geomorphological position of the hillforts and analysys of the square of the sites gave the posibility to make classification by the square. Consequently any hillfort can be described by three main characteristics: construction, geomorphology, square. It helps to avoid subjective assessment of hillfort functions and to separate characteristics which form the type. Settlement system of the hillforts was analysed separately by main left Dneiper feeders. This approach allows to define a difference in settlement system and find out a special construction solutions which were used by scythian time population. In addition, the catalogue of the hillforts in left-bank Dnieper region is included in the article.

Abstract Critical wandering is common in persons living with dementia, it is defined as wandering that results in an individual going missing. This exposes the missing vulnerable older adult to risks and dangers. Persons with dementia who become lost and go missing and get lost can face adverse outcomes, such as injury and death, yet the amount of information available on the risk factors associated with these incidents is scarce. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with critical wandering in persons living with dementia. We used Tricco et al.’s (2018) approach for scoping reviews and searched the following databases: Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Scopus. We included studies that referred to critical wandering in persons with dementia, cognitive impairment, or Alzheimer, and published since 1980. We identified 3,376 publications, which was reduced to 1641 publications after we removed duplications. A total of 78 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria for analysis and extraction. A rigorous process to synthesize and categorize the research evidence was followed. We identified four different types of risk factors associated with going missing: (1) personal, (2) physical environment and geographical location, (3) cultural environment, and (4) social environment and support resources. Recognition of these risk factors can help persons living with dementia and their care partners identify interventions and proactive strategies to mitigate or prevent critical wandering. This will support persons with dementia, their care partners, and community organizations to balance safety, autonomy, and independence to maximize quality of life.

The features of urban population settlement development are disclosed. The peculiarities of urban territorial structures in different regions are explored. The supporting frame of urban population settlement development is investigated. The traditional types of urban settlement supporting frames (ring-radial, rectangular regular, linear-nodular, seaside as well as multicore) are defined. The new forms of ring-radial settlement systems (vector, polynuclear, semi-ring et al.) are characterized. The main advantages and disadvantages of urban settlement configuration are shown. The basic examples of their development are proposed.
