Khmer Girl’s in Action is a nonprofit that successfully utilizes community-based participatory research (CBPR) with university partners to create social change for youth in Long Beach, CA. Based on semi-structured interviews and content analysis of news articles, I explore the impact and sustainability of this research work and the research partnerships. Findings highlight impacts such as youth empowerment, heightened awareness around community needs, policy change, and CBPR curriculum improvements in the field as impacts. Sustainability requires integrating research into program funding, utilizing a tailored training curriculum, building on community members prior relationships, and selecting partners that share common goals, levels of commitment, and flexibility. As funders demand more data to justify community needs, understanding more examples of such work in the Asian American community will be useful for informing future partnerships.

Professor Fumiko Sugimoto has been analysing the history of the 18th century and first half of the 19th century with a focus not only on the temporal axis but also on the relationships between specific spaces and the people who live and act as subjective agents in these spaces. During the past few years, she has been endeavouring to decipher the history in the period of transition from the early modern period to the modern period by introducing the perspective of oceans, with a focus on Japan. Through the study of history in terms of spatial theory that also takes oceans into consideration, she is proposing to present a new concept about the territorial formation of modern states. Libraries are widely used by government, universities, research institutes, and the public since they are storing and managing intellectual assets. The library information directly stored in libraries and about the people interaction with libraries can be transformed into accessible data which then will be used by researchers to help library better serve users. Librarians need to understand how to transform, analyze, and present data in order to facilitate such knowledge creation. For example, the challenges they face include how to make big datasets more useful, visible and accessible. Fortunately, with new and powerful analytics of big data, such as information visualization tools, researchers/users can look at data in new ways and mine it for information they intend to have. Moreover, interaction of users and stored information has been taken into librarian's consideration to improve library service quality. In this work, the authors discuss the characteristics of datasets in library and argue against a popular confusion that data involved in library research is not big enough, conduct a review for the research work on library big data and then summarize the applications and research directions in this field. The status of big data research in library in China is discussed. The challenges associated with it are also discussed and explored.

Many more prehistoric locations and material remains of man’s past are identified from different part of the world from the scholars of developed countries. In the one hand great amount of facilities and resources provided by their governments and related institutions, scholars of developed countries are working continuously in the field of archaeology and prehistory. Besides this the developing countries are struggling for physical development of the country with low amount of resources and they are incapable to allocate national budget for such studies and the scholars and researchers are badly suffered with low income level and high price for livelihood resulting low level of research capabilities. In this context research work on archaeology and prehistory is far away for them and many more prehistoric sites are still hidden under the geological strata of developing countries. There is a great danger of manipulation in data, possibility of forgery like Piltdown forgery and possible damage of megalithic graves for finding antiquities by tomb hunters. Damage of prehistoric sites, tombs and shelters is a great loss for human being not only for related countries, but for the people of the whole world. There are a lot of architectural heritage be reused in practical life in Europe. The history and the reality can be harmonized and accreted together in these architectural heritages. The original appearance, the building structure and the stone materials are retained of the architectural heritage when they undertake the new social function. When the architectural heritage shows their new face to the people, they also demonstrate their own history and cultural characteristics. All of this is useful for a city to illustrate its development of local culture context. This topic focus on the designing practice of the Musee d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux of France. From analyzing the designing concept and the designing means of the architects in transferring an old storehouse into a modern museum, the topic does research of the successful experiment in continuing the historic and cultural context and adapting the new function of the architectural heritage itself and its environment. And these researches can give us some inspiration and reference in our correlative research work.

Kunnu, a beverage popular among the Northern Nigerians has a low protein value because it is made from cereals. This may have a negative effect on the nutritional status of the people who drink it, especially on the growth rate of infants who are given kunnu as a weaning drink. This is be cause protein is an essential component of the balanced diet required for growth. Research work carried out on the improvement of the nutritional value of cereals, shows that the fortification of carbohydrate-rich foods with protein-rich foods improves its nutritious value. As a result of this, a study was carried out to fortify kunnu with soymilk and the effect on its nutritional and sensory properties was evaluated. Kunnu and soymilk were prepared and it was fortified with soymilk in the ratio 1:1, 2: 1, 3:1 and 4:1, and the proximate composition (protein, fat, ash and moisture content), chemical composition (pH, specific gravity and sedimentation rate) and mineral content (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron content) were determined. The pH, protein and mineral content increased as the amount of soymilk added. The pH value ranged from 4.8 to 4.3, while the protein content increased from 2.35 to 2.45%. The calcium and magnesium content also increased from 0.08 to 0.15% and 0.18 to 0.29% respectively. The fat and ash content, however, decreased respectively from 2.8 to 2.0, and 0.91 to 0.891 with an increase in addition of soymilk. The proximate, chemical and mineral content were significantly different at P < 0.05 while the sensory properties were not significantly different at the same level. The sensory properties (colour, taste, texture, flavor and general acceptability) were, however, observed to decrease with the increase in fortification level of soymilk. The results obtained show that the fortification of kunnu with soymilk will result in a more nutritious beverage, but it may have a low level of acceptance with the local populace.
