The Status

“Curriculum ideology” is a new teaching concept that combines professional courses with ideological and political courses. At present, the teaching reform of ideological and political education has been launched in colleges and universities across the country. It is a major innovation in the field of education in the new era. With the continuous improvement of China’s opening to the outside world, there is also a strong demand for applied foreign language talents. As a course with elements of cross-cultural knowledge and foreign cultural system, college English translation must adapt to the macro requirements of the ideological and political concepts of college English courses as well as reform its teaching contents and methods. On this basis, this article analyzes the status quo of college English translation under the background of “curriculum ideology” and proposes ways to reform the teaching of college English translation, in order to break the limitations of traditional college English teaching, improve students’ learning efficiency, and further deepen the reform of translation teaching, and cultivate modern applied cross-cultural communication talents with high professional skills and political literacy.

The public sign, a “window” of a city or scenic spot, carries more information and plays the informative role in people’s daily life. The translation of public signs not merely transfers the linguistic information of the signs, but also acts as a cross-cultural communication activity. The study analyzes the types of public signs, investigates the common mistakes of English translation of public signs, and puts forward some suggestions for the public signs translation. The improvement of translators’ competence and cross-cultural awareness, the uniformity of the text, readers’ response, and the cultural context should be taken into consideration. They can contribute to the greater acceptability of public signs translation.

The theoretical bases for the thesis are cross-cultural foreign language education theory, systemic education theory and multimedia-assisted English teaching theory. At first, the thesis summarizes and analyzes every unit involving cultural knowledge in College English textbook Oxford English used in Shanghai at present, demonstrating the feasibility of culture teaching in the elementary stage of College English. Then based on systemic teaching theories, the thesis analyzes teaching aim, teaching demand, teaching environment, teaching content, teaching strategies, evaluative strategies and implementation of culture teaching. Next, the thesis designs specific courses to match daily teaching activities by way of collecting culture teaching materials, designing culture teaching content and relevant teaching strategies. When designing specific courses, I take advice from experts and teachers on the front, develop three teaching cases and use courseware for teaching practice.

The national conference for college ideological and political work emphasizes that we should make good use of the main channel of classroom teaching, and that all kinds of courses should go with ideological and political theory courses in the same direction to form a synergistic effect. As a basic course in colleges and universities, college English will play an irreplaceable role in the process of "all staff, whole process and all-round education". The new curriculum plan of ideological and political course in university is not only based on the practical needs of ideological education in colleges in the new era, but also based on the urgent requirements of the fundamental task of moral education in universities. It is also an important achievement in the process of long-term exploration of ideological and political theory education in colleges. In principle, the reform of ideological and political teaching of specialized courses in universities should be student-oriented and practice-oriented; in terms of the goal, we should push the reform towards standardization from two levels: the fundamental goal and the specific goal. The key point of reform is to excavate and refine the elements of ideological and political education in specialized courses, and the timing and links of the integration of ideological and political education elements in specialized courses. Therefore, the evaluation standard and method of ideological and political teaching reform in universities should focus on students and teachers to construct a “three-dimensional and four-body” evaluation system of ideological and political teaching, and at the same time follow scientific and reasonable evaluation principles, thus ideological and political education and professional teaching in the same direction.

Under the background of quality education, new requirements are put forward for the training of talents in the new era. Language is an indispensable part of culture, and it is also a major carrier and medium of culture communication and transmission. Learning a foreign language means not only learning basic language knowledge, training and improving the ability of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, but enriching the cross-cultural awareness, cultivating cross-cultural communication competence and making the voice of native culture to communicate with the outside world. Thus, more and more educators and teachers at home and aboard have come to realize the importance of culture teaching in language learning. This paper focuses on inputting culture teaching in College English teaching integrated with specialty characteristics. The importance of culture teaching in college English teaching is analyzed and emphasized and several inspirational and referential strategies of culture teaching integrated with specialty characteristics are also provided.
