The purpose of this study is to evaluate 27 potato accession numbers from crosses that have disease resistance of  P. infestans ( late blight ), knowing the potential production of 27 clones of potato accession numbers from crosses. Results showed the intensity of the disease are observed including six resistant clones 22.22% (PT4, AP3, PT3, AP4, AP7, and PT2) with the intensity of attacks between 9.70-18.33%, 14.81% four moderately resistant clone (PT1, PT5, AP8 and AP2) with the intensity of 20.48-37.50%, 12%  moderately susceptible clones 44.44 (RP5, RP18, RP7, RP16, RP 6, RP 8, RP3, RP2, RP14, RP17, Rp13, and RP10) with the intensity of attacks 45.00-59, 12%, and 18-52% five clones were classified as susceptible (RP4, RP15, RP 9, AP1 and AP6) with the intensity of attacks between 68.18-100%. Intensity of the relationship is linear with the number of bulbs, with the model equation Y = 17 594 - 0.174x. (R2 = 0.264), the intensity of the relationship with tuber weight is linear, with the model equation Y = 404 817-4.606x. (R2 = 0.297) and the intensity of the bulb volume is linear, with a regression model Y = 346 010- 4.081x. (R2 = 0.292).

Abstract Accurate estimation of tuber size distribution (TSD) parameters in discretely categorized potato (Solanum tuberosum L) yield samples is desirable for estimating modal tuber sizes, which is fundamental to yield prediction. In the current work, systematic yield digs were conducted on five commercial fields (N = 119) to compare the Weibull, Gamma and Gaussian distribution functions for relative-likelihood-based goodness-of-fit to the observed discrete distributions. Parameters were estimated using maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) for the three distributions but were also derived using the percentiles approach for the Weibull distribution to compare accuracy against the MLE approaches. The relationship between TSD and soil nutrient variability was examined using the best-fitting model's parameters. The percentiles approach had lower overall relative likelihood than the MLE approaches across five locations, but had consistently lower Root Mean Square Error in the marketable tuber size range. Negative relationships were observed between the percentile-based shape parameter and the concentrations of Phosphorus and Nitrogen, with significant (non-zero-overlapping 95% confidence interval) regression coefficients for P (−0.74 ± 0.33 for distribution of proportional tuber numbers and −1.3 ± 0.62 for tuber weights). Stem density was negatively associated with the scale and mode of tuber number (regression coefficients −0.98 ± 0.63 and −1.08 ± 0.78 respectively) and tuber weight (regression coefficients −0.99 ± 0.78 and −1.04 ± 0.69 respectively) distributions. Phosphorus is negatively related to the scale of the tuber-number-based distribution while positively associating with the tuber weight distribution. The results suggest that excess P application was associated with the increase in small tubers that did not contribute significant weight to the final yield.

Uncovering the genetic basis and optimizing the late blight tolerance trait in potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) are crucial for potato breeding. Late blight disease is one of the most significant diseases hindering potato production. The traits of late blight tolerance were evaluated for 284 potato cultivars to identify loci significantly associated with the late blight tolerance trait. Of all, 37 and 15 were the most tolerant to disease, and 107 and 30 were the most susceptible. A total of 22,489 high-quality single-nucleotide polymorphisms and indels were identified in 284 potato cultivars. All the potato cultivars were clustered into eight subgroups using population structure analysis and principal component analysis, which were consistent with the results of the phylogenetic tree analysis. The average genetic diversity for all 284 potato cultivars was 0.216, and the differentiation index of each subgroup was 0.025–0.149. Genome-wide linkage disequilibrium (LD) analysis demonstrated that the average LD was about 0.9 kb. A genome-wide association study using a mixed linear model identified 964 loci significantly associated with the late blight tolerance trait. Fourteen candidate genes for late blight tolerance traits were identified, including genes encoding late blight tolerance protein, chitinase 1, cytosolic nucleotide-binding site–leucine-rich repeat tolerance protein, protein kinase, ethylene-responsive transcription factor, and other potential plant tolerance-related proteins. This study provides novel insights into the genetic architecture of late blight tolerance traits and will be helpful for late blight tolerance in potato breeding.

Effects of nitrogen on the leaf chlorophyll (chl), yield and yield attributing characters of potato as tuber number and mean tuber weight were studied. Correlation coefficients between the investigated characters were determined. Five nitrogen rates (0, 150, 200, 250 and 300 kg/ha) and four potato cultivars (Burren, Slaney, Anna and Emma) were used in the study. First, second, third class tuber yields and total tuber yield, tuber number per plant, and leaf chl were significantly influenced by both nitrogen rate and cultivar, whereas mean tuber weight was affected only by cultivar. Maximum total yield was obtained at 200 kg N/ha. There was significant linear relationship between leaf chl and N applied (R2=0.91). There were significant correlations between chl and yield and yield related characters. Total yield significantly correlated with leaf chl.
