This paper explored pre-service teachers’ perceptions and knowledge of trigonometric concepts. Convenience sampling technique was used to select a sample of 119 (25 females, 94 males) second year science/mathematics pre-service teachers from two Colleges of Education in the Northern Region of Ghana. Trigonometry Perception Questionnaire (TPQ) and Trigonometry Assessment Test (TAT) were used to collect data on pre-service teachers’ perceptions and conceptual knowledge of trigonometry. Data were coded and keyed into Statistical Package for Service Solutions (SPSS version 20) and analysed using descriptive statistics. The results suggested that pre-service teachers perceived trigonometry as abstract, difficult and boring to learn; and had limited conceptual knowledge of basic trigonometric concepts. Consequently, more that 50% of them were unable to construct and reconstruct the appropriate mental structures for meaningful understanding to enable them respond to important basic trigonometry tasks. To achieve quality mathematics education, teacher educators must change their instructional practice and teach for understanding.  Since understanding is the key to teacher’s instructional actions, processes and knowledge, we recommend teaching trigonometry for understanding during teacher preparation.

This final project focuses on Alvin and the Chipmunks film in spoken narrative text to improve students’ speaking skill. The objectives of this study are (1) to find out the students’ speaking ability before being taught by using Alvin and the Chipmunks film in spoken narrative text, (2) to find out the students’ speaking ability after being taught Alvin and the Chipmunks film in spoken narrative text, and (3) to find out whether or not there is significant difference of the students’ speaking ability before and after being taught using Alvin and the Chipmunks film at storytelling. In this study, the population was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Gubug in the academic year 2013/2014. The number of the population was 324 students classified into 9 classes. Cluster sampling is used in taking the sample. 69 students are selected as sample out of 324 students that consist of 36 students from class Xi as the experiment group and 33 students XH as the control group. Experiment research was used here to get the data. The pre-test is given to the students on both of groups. After that, the difference treatments are given in experimental group. At the end of the research, the post-test is given to both of groups. In experiment group, the students retell the story of Alvin and the Chipmunks after watching the film and in control groups the students retell without watching the film in front of the class. The mean score of the experiment group 72.08 was higher than the mean score of the control group 65.455. The t-test application to the scores of two groups showed that the valuable (9,67) is higher than t-table (1.996). It can be seen that there is a significance difference speaking ability of the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Gubug after being taught using Alvin and the Chipmunks film. To overcome these problems, the researcher offers some suggestions. For the school, the school should give good facilities and many media for teaching and learning process. For the teacher, the teacher should give variation teaching especially using media in spoken narrative text to improve students’ speaking skill. For the students, the students have to do more active, confident, and practice to practice speaking English

This study focuses on Think-Talk-Write Strategy in teaching descriptive text to improve students’ writing ability. The objectives of this study are (1) to find out the students’ writing ability of the tenth grade students of MAN Demak in academic year 2014/2015 who were taught by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW). (2) to find out the students’ writing ability of the tenth grade students of MAN Demak in academic year 2014/2015 who were taught without using Think-Talk-Write (TTW). (3) to find out whether or not there was a significant difference of writing ability between the tenth grade students of MAN Demak in academic year 2014/2015 who were taught with Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy and without Think-Talk-Write (TTW). The research was Quasi-Experimental research. The subject of the study was the tenth grade students of MAN Demak. Cluster sampling is used in taking the sample. 40 students from class X-5 were selected as the experiment group and 40 students from class X-1 as the control group. The t-test was used to analyze the data. Experiment research was used here to get the data. The pre-test was given to the students on both of groups. After that, the difference treatment was given in experimental group. At the end of the research, the post-test was given to both of groups. The count of the mean score of the experimental class was 79.95 and the count of mean score of the control class was 76.17. It shows that teaching descriptive text by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy gave better result as indicated significant statistical t-test computation, that the t-table value (t5% = 2.03 and t1% = 2.80) is less than t0 = 13.09 (2.03<13.09>2.80). It could be seen that there is a significant difference in writing ability of the tenth grade students of MAN Demak after being taught using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy. The researcher offers some suggestions in this research. The school should give good facilities and many strategies for teaching and learning process. For the teacher, the teacher should give variation teaching especially using new techniques and strategies in teaching descriptive text to improve students’ writing ability. For the students, the students have to do more active, confident and creative.

This paper identifies the antecedents of psychological burnout and its influence on tutors’ job stress in Colleges of Education in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The study adopted a case study approach because it probes four specific Colleges of Education (COE) in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Quantitative research method was employed. Cluster sampling was used in selecting 120 tutors and then stratified on the basis of gender. The study used questionnaire as the main research instrument for gathering the data from participants. Cronbach’s Alpha was used to test the sample reliability, which yielded coefficient 0f 0.84. Data were analyzed using inferential statistics, with Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression models as analytical tools. Hypothesis was tested at a significant level of 0.01 and 0.05. Results revealed that lack of job satisfaction (96 %) and delay in payment of salary (88%) were the leading antecedents of psychological burnout among the tutors. Again, the findings showed that lack of commitment to work (92%) and transferring of aggression to teacher trainees were the top most effects of stress on Tutors. Results of hypothesis tested revealed no significant difference on the expression on both the causes and effects of psychological burnout among tutors on the basis of gender.  It was concluded that inadequate or complete lack of academic facilities did not only impair academic productivity, but also exerted undue stress on tutors and available facilities. The study recommended among others, the development priorities of the colleges should be Tutor –teacher trainee oriented.

Structure of the family is one of the factors that builds the independence of adolescents. Nowadays, it is uncommon to find families that are not united due to divorcement. The condition where families are no longer united (single parent) will affect the independence of adolescents. Independence of adolescence is the ability to organize behavior and decision without being dependent on parents (Steinberg, 2002). The purpose of this research is to see the difference of independence between senior high school adolescents with single mother and adolescents with single father due to divorcement.   A total of 64 senior high school adolescents in Bali in aged 15-18 years who have single parents due to divorcement were included as subjects in this quantitative research, with comparison approach. The sampling technique that was used in this research was cluster sampling. Measuring instrument used in this research was Independence Scale (34 item, rxx=0.889). The statistical technique used to process the data of this study is a parametric test of independent t-test.   Based on the outcome of this research, it appears that there is no significant difference between the independence of senior high school adolescents with a single father nor single mother due to divorcement (t=1.212) with p equal to 0,230 (p>0,05).   Keyword: Autonomy of Adolescence, single father, single mother.

Globally, there is an overwhelming concern over the quality and relevance of education. Education being the social system of society, plays a key role in reforming and reconstructing the society from time to time. Teacher Education Programme plays an important role in shaping and moulding the habits, manners and above all, the character of pupil-teachers to become effective teachers. Teacher educators have the responsibility to prepare teachers having all these qualities. So, there is a need of special education and training for the preparation of such teacher educators. An important factor which can determine professional effectiveness of teacher educators is self-efficacy. It means teacher educators must also have some sense of belief that they can make a difference to the lives of children they are teaching and that those children are learning. In this context the study started with the question, is there any difference in professional effectiveness of teacher educators with reference to occupational self-efficacy? For this, a sample of 300 teacher educators from government and private institutions were identified. Professional Effectiveness Scale prepared by the researcher and Occupational Self- Efficacy Scale (OSES) developed by Pethe, Chaudhari and Dhar were used as tools in this study. F-test was used to examine whether the difference found in mean scores is significant or not. Significant differences in professional effectiveness were found between the teacher educators having average and low occupational self-efficacy and the teacher educators having high and low job value at 0.01 level of significance. However, no significant difference in professional effectiveness was found between the teacher educators having high and average occupational selfefficacy .

Crassicauda spp. (Nematoda) infest the cranial sinuses of several odontocetes, causing diagnostic trabecular osteolytic lesions. We examined skulls of 77 Indian Ocean humpback dolphins Sousa plumbea and 69 Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins Tursiops aduncus, caught in bather-protecting nets off KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) from 1970-2017, and skulls of 6 S. plumbea stranded along the southern Cape coast in South Africa from 1963-2002. Prevalence of cranial crassicaudiasis was evaluated according to sex and cranial maturity. Overall, prevalence in S. plumbea and T. aduncus taken off KZN was 13 and 31.9%, respectively. Parasitosis variably affected 1 or more cranial bones (frontal, pterygoid, maxillary and sphenoid). No significant difference was found by gender for either species, allowing sexes to be pooled. However, there was a significant difference in lesion prevalence by age, with immature T. aduncus 4.6 times more likely affected than adults, while for S. plumbea, the difference was 6.5-fold. As severe osteolytic lesions are unlikely to heal without trace, we propose that infection is more likely to have a fatal outcome for immature dolphins, possibly because of incomplete bone development, lower immune competence in clearing parasites or an over-exuberant inflammatory response in concert with parasitic enzymatic erosion. Cranial osteolysis was not observed in mature males (18 S. plumbea, 21 T. aduncus), suggesting potential cohort-linked immune-mediated resistance to infestation. Crassicauda spp. may play a role in the natural mortality of S. plumbea and T. aduncus, but the pathogenesis and population level impact remain unknown.

Abstract: Routine blood examination is the earliest blood test or screening test to determine the diagnosis of an abnormality. Blood easily froze if it is outside the body and can be prevented by the addition of anticoagulants, one of which Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetate (EDTA). Currently available vacuum tubes containing EDTA anticoagulants in the form of K2EDTA and K3EDTA. K3EDTA is usually a salt that has better stability than other EDTA salts because it shows a pH approaching a blood pH of about 6.4. The purpose of this research is to know the difference of erythrocyte index results include MCH, MCV and MCHC using K3EDTA anticoagulant with K2EDTA. This research is a cross sectional design. This study used venous blood samples mixed with K2EDTA anticoagulant and venous blood mixed with K3EDTA anticoagulants, each of 30 samples. Data were collected and analyzed using paired different test. Based on data analysis that has been done on MCH examination, p value <0,05 then there is a significant difference between samples with K3EDTA anticoagulant with K2EDTA to erythrocyte index value. Then on the examination of MCV and MCHC obtained p value <0.05 then there is no significant difference between samples with K3EDTA anticoagulant with K2EDTA to erythrocyte index value.
