scholarly journals IMPACT OF NUTRITION EDUCATION ON KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND PRACTICES (KAP) OF SCHOOL-AGE FEMALE ADOLESCENTS REGARDING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Adolescents are not fond of outdoor activities or exercises, which becomes the issue of various health-related problems. Proper education regarding physical activity arranged for them is necessary to keep them healthy and active. A quasi-experimental study was conducted to educate school-going female adolescents about the importance and benefits of physical activity. Female adolescents from 10-15 years of age were selected by using a cluster-sampling technique. The sample size was 108 individuals. The study was conducted in two schools of Lahore, a government, and a private school. The study duration was six weeks. Data collection was done by selfstructured questionnaire. The study had 3 phases, first pre-testing, and then interventional phase in which nutrition education was given to students, and after a one-week gap post-testing was done through the same questionnaire. A paired sample t-test was used to analyze data. There was a significant association (p=0.001) showed in results between pre- and post-knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) among school-age female adolescents. This study concluded that nutrition intervention has a positive impact on students. Schools should have a proper setup for teaching their students regarding the importance of physical activity and its sound effects on health for the betterment of the community.

Abstract Objectives Examine change in adult eating competence (EC) over a 12 month period following participation in a controlled 7-month nutrition education intervention with EC constructs. Methods Parents of 4th grade youth in a cluster randomized impact assessment of a 7 month school-based culinary and physical activity intervention were assigned to 1 of 4 incrementally complex treatments that included components congruent with EC tenets. An online survey included validated measures of EC (ecSI 2.0TM), physical activity, stress, diet quality, healthful modeling, self-efficacy (SE) to offer fruits and vegetables to youth, and self-reported height/weight. EC was defined as ecSI 2.0TM ≥32. Measures were completed at baseline (BL), post-intervention (FU) and 5 months later (FU2). SPSS 24.0 analyses included repeated measures general linear modeling, means testing, chi square, Pearson correlation. Results Mean age of the mostly female (86%) sample (n = 418) was 39.1 ± 6.0 y; at FU2 126 were intervention and 96 control parents. BL analyses supported EC tenets with greater ecSI 2.0TM scores associated with less stress, lower BMI, less overweight/obesity, greater physical activity, greater SE and modeling behaviors (all P < 0.01). These relationships persisted at FU (n = 220) and FU2 (n = 221) for BMI, SE, modeling, and stress measures (all P < 0.01) and physical activity (P = 0.001 FU and 0.09 FU2). EC was denoted for 53% and 57% at BL and FU2 respectively. BL to FU2 ecSI 2.0TM change was not significant when controlling for changes in stress or physical activity. However, compared to those with increased FU2 BMI, ecSI 2.0TM tended (P = 0.06) to increase when BMI was decreased or unchanged, even when controlling for BL BMI. BL to FU2 ecSI 2.0 change was inversely related to BMI change (P = 0.01). ecSI 2.0TM tended to decrease for control, but increase for intervention parents (P = 0.07; –0.34 vs. 1.05), but not when controlling for BMI change. Conclusions An intervention with attention to EC congruent tenets showed modest effect on ecSI 2.0TM suggesting that successful programs require attributes that directly align with EC, which may be uniquely different from traditional nutrition education. Accurate EC intervention assessment required consideration of BMI change. Funding Sources USDA, NIFA.

The study aims to test the effectiveness of career guidance program to develop vocational identity of students. The study uses a quantitative approach with quasi experimental methods and non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The study was conducted in SMK Muhammadiyah Imogiri Yogyakarta by taking a research subject that is a class XI student who is determined by random cluster sampling technique. An instrument which is used is the scale of vocational identity and observation guidelines. Results showed empirically career guidance program interventions based theory of Super effective to develop vocational identity of students. This research can be a reference for school counselor in developing vocational identity of students in the school especially those who are in adolescence

Conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills are necessary for all students to help them in their learning process. This research aims to determine the effect of Moodle-assisted e-learning on (1) conceptual understanding, (2) critical thinking skills, and (3) conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills combined. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with random cluster sampling was used as the sampling technique. An algebra written test was used to collect research data. Furthermore, the researchers performed the normality test, homogeneity test, and MANOVA analysis to analyze the data. The researchers discovered that Moodle-assisted e-learning influenced students' conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills.

Background: The Sigmund Freud's psychosexual theory says that the school age is the important stage in the development of self-confidence. Many studies reveals that physical exercise has a positive effect in the cognitive intellectual areas of the children. Regular practice of simple exercise will makes the children more sharp minded and helps to give a better learning outcome Material & Methods: The main aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of super brain yoga by measuring the changes in concentration and memory in children.. A quantitative evaluative approach was used for this study with a one group pretest and posttest design. The purposive sampling technique was used to select 120 students aged between 10 to 12 years who were studying in 6th and 7th standard. The practice of super brain yoga was given 20 times over 10 minutes per day for a period of one month. The Digit Cancellation Test and the Knox Cube Test was used to was used to assess the pretest and posttest level of concentration and memory in children. Results: The pretest mean and standard deviation of concentration was 33.64±5.43 with a standard error of 0.496. The first posttest (at the end of second week of practice of super brain yoga) mean and standard deviation was 33.55± 5.378 with a standard error of 0.491 and the t-value was 0.749. The second posttest (at the end of fourth week of practice of super brain yoga) mean and standard deviation was 33.67±5.393 with a standard error of 0.492 and the t-value was 0.240. The pretest mean and standard deviation of memory was 33.67±4.696with a standard error of 0.429.The first posttest (at the end of second week of practice of super brain yoga) mean and standard deviation was 33.66±4.654with a standard error of 0.425 and the t-value was 0.080. The second posttest (at the end of fourth week of practice of super brain yoga) mean and standard deviation was 33.68±4.700with a standard error of 0.420and the t-value was 0.074. The present study result shows that statistically there was no significant effect of super brain yoga on concentration and memory of children and no association between posttest level of concentration and memory of children with their selected demographic variables. Conclusion: Hence the study concludes that the super brain yoga has no significant effect on concentration and memory of children with a duration of four weeks of practice.The study recommended that to bring the desired positive effect on children’s concentration and memory the study can be conducted for a long period of time.

This study aims to reveal the effect of using guided inquiry based experiment worksheet on reaction rate topic on students� learning outcome. This research is a quasi-experimental research, using randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely the experiment class and control class obtained through cluster sampling technique. The population were students of class XI MIA SMAN 4 Padang as much as 6 classes, the academic year 2015/2016. Sample were class XI MIA 1 (experimental group) and class XI MIA 3 (control group). Learning outcome ware collected by tests at the end of the study. Data analysis showed that the experiments class learning with guided inquiry based experiment worksheet got learning outcome with average value of 86.27. Meanwhile learning outcomes of student in control class who learned without guided inquiry based experiment worksheet was 74.40. Both of Normality and Homogenous�s results showed that the distribution of the two experimental classes were normal and homogeneous. After the t-test on the real level of 0.05 was found that tcount is greater than ttable. It�s means that research hypothesis (H1) is accepted, so that it can be concluded that the results of student learning using student worksheet guided inquiry-based reaction rate is significantly higher than the student worksheet without a reaction rate-based guided inquiry.

Nutritional needs are important for adolescent to accelerate growth. Good nutritional knowledge in adolescent can help them to consume healthy foods and prevent nutritional problems. Nutrition education with animation video is a great eff ort to improve adolescent nutritional knowledge. The use of attractive, eff ective and effi cient media ease adolescent to understand the nutrition material delivered. The objective of this research was to analyzes adolescent nutritional knowledge after given animation video. This research was quasi experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. There were 84 eeadolescents as research subjects chosen with purposive sampling technique. Animation video was given one time every week for one month with the duration of each video for seven minutes. The data was analyzed using Wilcoxon signed-rank. The results of study showed that nutrition education using animation video gave a positive infl uence on nutritional knowledge of adolescent (p=0.000). Animation video can be used as educational media to improve adolescent nutritional knowledge.

Surgery requires a preoperative nursing action which is the initial stage of operative nursing, which starts from the time the patient is admitted into the patient's reception room and ends when the patient is transferred to the operating table for surgery. Psychological and physiological reactions to surgical procedures and anesthetic processes that allow for an anxiety response, especially in pre-school-aged children. Preschoolers who are sick and have to be hospitalized can experience unpleasant experiences and cause anxiety. They tend to refuse treatment and treatment that is being undertaken, causing delays to some actions including surgery. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of cartoon videos on reducing preoperative anxiety levels in pre-school age children. This research method uses quasi-experimental with a pre and post-test approach with out control. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a sample of 20 children who were divided into 2 groups. This research instrument uses the HARS anxiety questionnaire. Data analysis using paired t-test. The results showed that the decrease in preoperative anxiety levels in pre-school children after being given a cartoon video intervention by 4.20, after being given an animated video intervention by 4.70. The results of the study also obtained p value> 0,000, which means the influence of cartoon videos and animated videos on reducing preoperative anxiety levels in pre-school age children. Suggestions that researchers can give are nurses can provide animation video interventions to minimize preoperative anxiety in pre-school age children.

Background. Today, it is very speculative  to talk about the percentage of obese children in the world because these figures change significantly from day to day, and there are even significant differences between respondents in the same country, according to geographical area and place of residence. A constant decline in the level of physical activity of children on a global level can be reported from the age when they start school. Energy intake of food is largely from energy consumption, which leads to an increase in body weight and obesity. Factors of overweight and obesity are associated with a sensitive comparison of health: a significantly increased risk of diabetes, disorders of the locomotor system, and increased social and psychological rights. Methods and results. During the systematization of the research on the topic, the aim of the paper was to determine whether the influence of physical activity on anthropometric parameters in school-age children is reviewed by previous research. Nineteen types of studies were collected. The following electronic databases were used to search the literature: MEDLINE, SCOPUS, Web of Science SPORTS DISCUS in the period from 2004 to 2016. The respondents included in the research were school-age children. Conclusion. The positive impact of various physical activity programs is aimed at reducing the parameters of anthropometric characteristics and obesity prevention. AbstractObjective:To examine the effects of a health and nutrition intervention, implemented in primary schools of Crete, on health knowledge, nutrient intakes and physical activity of the intervention population.Methods:The intervention group consisted of 24 schools while the control group consisted of 16 schools. The overall duration of the intervention was six years, while the topics of the intervention primarily focused on children' dietary habits, physical activity and fitness.Results:After the completion of the intervention period, the changes observed in health knowledge, nutrient intakes and physical activity were in favour of the intervention group pupils.Conclusion:The encouraging findings of the study indicate the potential of the programme in health promotion and disease prevention without involving substantial new school resources and time.

This research aims at developing Speaking Skill through Interview. Its method was quasi-experimental research non-equivalent control group design. Its population was the students of grade VIII at SMP Negeri 1 Palu, in which consists of thirteen parallel classes. The experimental class consists of 29 students and control class consists of 30 students. It was done in eight meetings. The variables of this research were speaking skill and interview. The samples of this research were students of grade VIII C and VIII D, selected through cluster sampling technique. Its results indicate that the application of interview has overcome the students’ problem. After analyzing them, the result of t-counted was 10.01. By applying degree of freedom (df) 57(29+30-2), and the level significant 0.05, the value of t-table was 2.00. So,  the value of t-counted was higher than t-table. It means that the hypothesis of this research was accepted. Thus, the interview can be applied to develop speaking skill of students grade VIII  at  SMP Negeri 1 Palu.
