The presence of weeds in crop cultivation has a negative effect on the crop because of their high competitiveness. One of the roles of weeds as allelopathy because weeds release chemical compounds that can inhibit growth and kill plants around them. This study aimed to determine the effect of concentration of ‘bandotan’ plant extracts plants at various application times on the growth and yield of mustard. The research was carried out at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Pattimura University, from November 2017 to January 2018. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) involving two factors and with three replications. The first factor was ‘bandotan’ extract with 4 concentration levels: control (no extract), 100 g/L, 200 g/L and 300 g/L. The second factor was application time with three levels: 5 days after planting (DAP), 10 DAP, and 15 DAP. The variables observed included plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh crop weight, and crop dry weight. Data analysis of each variable was conducted using the analysis of variance. If there was a significant treatment effect, it proceeded with the Tukey test at the level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the concentration of ‘bandotan’ extract did not significantly affect all observation variables (plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh crop weight, and dry weight of mustard). Time of ‘bandotan’ extract application did not significantly affect all observation variables (plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh crop weight, and dry weight of mustard). The interaction between ‘bandotan’ extract concentration and application time did not significantly affect all observed variables. Keywords:  application time, ‘bandotan’ extract, green mustard, growth and yield   ABSTRAK Keberadaaan gulma pada tanaman budidaya berpengaruh negatif pada tanaman itu karena daya kompetitif yang tinggi. The current pot trial was conducted to estimate the impacts of different types of biochar on the growth and nutrients availability of maize (Zea mays) and their effects on the properties of soil. Treatments including four different feedstock based biochar i.e wheat straw, rice husk, corn cob and wood bark were applied to the soil in 10 kg pots @ 1.5% w/w. The experiment was carried out using complete randomized design (CRD). The crop was harvested after the plants have completed their vegetative growth. Physiological parameters of the crop (plant height, leaf area, chlorophyll content) were measured before harvesting while shoot mass (fresh and dry) and root mass (fresh and dry) were calculated after harvesting of the crop. The data showed a significant difference when compared with the control. Plant height was significantly increased from 140cm (control) to 159.9cm in T4 (wood bark biochar). Experimental soil was analyzed in the laboratory for NPK, water aggregate stability, organic matter and active carbon. Wet aggregate stability value of the soil was improved from 17.82% to 19.5%. Similarly soil active carbon was significantly improved from 259.33 ppm to 321.25 ppm. The data showed more significant results of wood bark biochar. Nutrient availability in the soil and plant nutrients uptake N (21.6%), P (31.25%) and K (45%) was increased as a results of biochar incorporation in the soil.

The main goals of sunflower breeding in Yugoslavia and abroad are increased seed yield and oil content per unit area and increased resistance to diseases, insects and stress conditions via an optimization of plant architecture. In order to determine the mode of inheritance, gene effects and correlations of total leaf number per plant, total leaf area and plant height, six genetically divergent inbred lines of sunflower were subjected to half diallel crosses. Significant differences in mean values of all the traits were found in the F1 and F2 generations. Additive gene effects were more important in the inheritance of total leaf number per plant and plant height, while in the case of total leaf area per plant the nonadditive ones were more important looking at all the combinations in the F1 and F2 generations. The average degree of dominance (Hi/D)1/2 was lower than one for total leaf number per plant and plant height, so the mode of inheritance was partial dominance, while with total leaf area the value was higher than one, indicating super dominance as the mode of inheritance. Significant positive correlation was found: between total leaf area per plant and total leaf number per plant (0.285*) and plant height (0.278*). The results of the study are of importance for further sunflower breeding work.
