Abstract. Yuliana E, Boer M, Fahrudin A, Kamal MM, Pardede ST. 2019. Using ecosystem approach indicators for assessing the ecological status of reef fisheries management in a marine protected area. Biodiversitas 20: 1802-1810.  The purpose of this study was to assess the status of reef fisheries management in a marine protected area base on ecosystem approach indicators and to determine the tactical decisions required to improve management. The study site was in Karimunjawa National Park (KNP) Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected using survey and observation methods and included both primary and secondary data. Coral fish, which were the object of the study was Caesio cuning, Caesio caerulaurea, Plectropomus oligacanthus, and Parupeneus barberinus. Determination of the status of each ecosystem approach indicator was conducted using the flag model. Tactical decisions were necessary to improve the status of management indicators. The results indicated that the ecological status of reef fisheries management of KNP is at a moderate level with an achievement value of 62.75% Tactical decisions are necessary to push the ten indicators to achieve a better level. Three indicators still received a poor status, and the remaining (seven indicators) were within the moderate status. Therefore, the three indicators that need to be improved quickly are fish abundance, fishing gear modification, and fishing capacity.

The use of Bangka waters by the fisheries sector, especially small scale fisheries, is increasingly pushed due to the reduced fishing ground (DPI) because of the increasing area of   the Sea Mining Business License (IUP). This causes less space for fishermen. This study aims to assess the performance status of small scale fisheries management based on the DPI Zone which is divided into 3, namely Zone A (DPI with active IUP), Zone A1 (DPI with non-active IUP), and Zone B (DPI without IUP). Performance status is assessed through the Ecosystem Approach for Fisheries Management (EAFM) approach using indicators in the domain of fish resources, habitat and ecosystem, fisheries technology, social, economic, and institutional. The assessment results indicate that the status of fisheries management in each DPI zone, namely Zone A with an aggregate total value of 1,179.50, is included in the medium status category; Zone A1 with a total aggregate value of 1,404.5 is included in the good status category, and Zone B with an aggregate value of 1,377 which is included in the medium status category. Fisheries management with tactical decisions are prioritized on indicators of range collapse, fishing capacity, coral reef ecosystems, fisheries conflicts, fishermen income, and institutional strengthening.

There are a large variety and quite abundant types of small pelagic fish that have high economic value in the Sulawesi Sea. One of which is the blue scad fish or commonly known as malalugis (Decapterus macarellus). This study aims to analyze and determine the status of scad fisheries management and to develop recommendations in the management of scad fisheries in the waters of Sulawesi Sea, North Sulawesi Province. The evaluation of fishery management status is carried out using multi-criteria analysis (MCA) through the development of composite index of each indicator of Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM). The results showed that, in general, the status of scad fisheries management in North Sulawesi Province, was in ‘good’ category, specifically reviewed from the domain of fish resources fall into the category of “medium”, habitat and ecosystem “good”, fishing techniques “good”, economy “not good”, social “medium” and institutional “good”. Management actions take precedence over domains that have “poor” indicator values. Priority management action is implemented in the economic domain, followed by the domain of fish resources, social, institutional and fishing techniques.Indonesian title: Pengelolaan perikanan ikan layang (Decapterus spp.) di perairan Laut Sulawesi, Provinsi Sulawesi Utara, menggunakan EAFM

Abstract The purpose of the work is to carry out a comparative analysis of the location of the regions, to determine the location and status of each border region, to identify the constituent entities of the Russian Federation with the similar position and problem situations. The present work solved the problem of multidimensional data classification using the grouping method and cluster analysis. We conducted a comparative analysis of the regions using three criteria: social, economic and territorial. The following indicators were used: for the social criterion – the ratio of average per capita income to the subsistence level; for economic – the level of real fiscal security; for territorial – population density (people/km2). The method of cluster analysis was applied, and a dendrogram was constructed for the border regions of Southern Siberia in order to present the data in a visual form. Determining the status of a region according to three criteria gives an advantage over the traditional types of ranking and groupings from viewpoint of the objectivity of determining the rating position of a region, analysis of current social-economic problems.
