The demands of English as an international language keep increasing along the time. Through time, the needs for learning English vary from for different purposes. Then the realization came to the surface that not all groups of learners need to learn general English. Thus, the design of English courses is developed for specific purposes as they are best known as English for Specific Purpose (ESP). The needs for learning English in specific purpose enable English teachers to pose themselves in different challenges other than in formal education. This paper aims at investigating the motivations of some English Education Department graduates for working as English instructors at English courses. The qualitative data was obtained by conducting the interview on some English instructors in Swift English School in Yogyakarta. After analyzing the data, it was found that despite its challenges, some English Education graduates prefer to work in English courses to regular schools. With all of the privileges of working in an English course, some general motivations underlie their working preferences. Among of the factors are flexible teaching situation, more chances for improving personal competence, higher salary and moderate career prospect.

As is known, STEM consists of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Its method aims to improve these skills. The 21st century needs creative, collaborative, communicative critical thinkers. STEM which was born for this purpose meets these needs. It gives the learners what they need for being fulfilled with the skills as individuals. However, the learners should learn English to have one of these skills, to be a self-esteemed communicator. Because English is the lingua franca of Science and Technology. Our students need to improve their English language skills, as well. This study aims to integrate STEM activities with English language learning. Both STEM activities and English language learning activities were used in the practice. It has a limitation that it was conducted with only one class and one level, the 11th grades. A pre-test and a post-test were applied to students as a questionnaire where they measured their perception of learning English difficulties and knowledge of the STEM field. In the pre-test they were seen that they are very far from being interested in learning English at high school and having no information about STEM. In the post-test it was seen that they need to learn English and STEM is a very enjoyable way of learning new things. It has been seen that the study was successful to bring two disciplines together and despite the students’ prejudice, they were glad to participate in it at the end. It has been seen that STEM is an interdisciplinary area and can be combined with English to improve its impact.

This study examines the factors of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that influence the acceptance of ICT use for English language learning of EFL University Students. This study also addresses the possible obstacles that affect and limit the use of ICT by adding motivation and ICT skills as extended TAM variables. This area of research topic is unexplored in the Indonesian context, especially in higher education institution. An analysis of these factors can assist instructors to understand how students learn using ICT and in providing useful advice to them during the learning process. The quantitative method was applied in this study, which included 303 students' teachers of English Education at a state university in Jambi, Indonesia. The instrument used in collecting the data was an online questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS3 program to analyze the proposed hypotheses formed in order to meet the study objectives. The SEM result indicated that the factors of the technology acceptance model are the main factors affecting the ICT use. The study concluded that the influence of motivation and skills for ICT usage was mediated by three main TAM variables, namely perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and attitudes.

In recent years, an accelerating trend in an undergoing shift from the use of traditional desktop computers towards the utilisation of smartphones for language learning purposes has been detected. In line with these trends, this study aims to investigate Slovak EFL learners’ attitudes and perceptions of English language learning apps (ELLA) regarding practicing and learning English. Furthermore, the differences in the perception of ELLA between the male and female research participants are also analysed. The target population totalled 158 Slovak university EFL learners, 48 males and 110 females, who were required to display their level of agreement to statements by responding to a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. The instrument consisted of 30 statements altogether, involving items on apps’ usage and apps’ perception. The calculated means indicate that the participants’ attitudes and perceptions of ELLA range between being neutral and positive, and that EFL learners tend to practice language systems and skills to varying degrees. Moreover, 30 independent-sample t-tests, which were run in order to determine the differences between the male and female attitudes and perceptions, reveal that 50% of statements on apps’ usage and apps’ perception differ significantly, demonstrating considerable differences between the two sexes. The achieved results seem to contribute to the existing research on the use of smartphones and ELLA in the context of EFL learning by casting more light on mobile language learning, an area that merits further scientific exploration.
