In recent year, the issues of sustainable development in general and enterprise's sustainable development have always been given special attention by government management agency, including small and medium-size industrial enterprises. The study conducted a survey of 316 industrial SMEs in three regions of the North, Central and South of Vietnam with the main survey subjects being managers in enterprises. The main purpose of the study is to assess the impact of the goverment support policies compared to other factors developed in the research model affecting the sustainable development of small and medium-sized industrial enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. In this research, the authors employed exploratory factor analysis to identify 4 factors affecting the sustainable development of SMEs. The research results show that the government support policies have an important role but not strongly influence human resource factors, financial factor and social responsibility (SR) policies of enterprises in their sustainable development for industrial SMEs in Vietnam.

Based on the fundamental concept of sustainable development, this study empirically analyzes the spatio-temporal characteristics, formation mechanisms and obstacle factors of the urban-rural integration of shrinking cities in China, from 2008 to 2018. The conclusions are as follows: the overall level of the urban-rural integration of shrinking cities in China is low; the internal differences of urban-rural integration are also small, and the changes are slow. Next, the space difference is high in the east and low in the west, high in the south and low in the north. Moreover, differences exist among different levels of urban agglomerations. Urban economic efficiency, urban resources and environment, urban social equity and rural economic efficiency are the main factors affecting the urban-rural integration of shrinking cities in China. Urban and rural economic efficiency are the two most prominent shortcomings that restrict the urban-rural integration of shrinking cities. The spatial resistance mode of each city is more than the two-system resistance; the main resistance of shrinking cities with a higher level of urban-rural integration also comes from the non-economic field. This study expands the research scope that up till now has ignored the discussion of urban-rural issues in the research of shrinking cities at home and abroad, and provides practical guidance for the sustainable development of shrinking cities in China.

Abstract In the North West of England the issue of a perceived infrastructure gap is of increasing concern. Investment needs to be made to improve the transport infrastructure of the region if it is to be expected to promote the development of its own regional logistics gateway. Funding tools have been set up to address the challenges arising from the imbalance in infrastructure development that exists between regions in the north of the United Kingdom and those in the south. For regions with well developed economies the outlook is promising as the availability of modern transport infrastructure looks set to improve. However, some sources believe that the development of new transport infrastructure will have a negative impact upon sustainable development. It is expected that this will occur in a range of both direct and indirect ways. As a result, it is critical that planning for the creation of new intermodal transport infrastructure, or the upgrading of that which already exists, takes into account the impact that these developments will have on the sustainable development of the host region. A scenario based development methodology is proposed in this paper. It was developed to provide a way to identify potential scenarios that may arise within a given region as a result of transport infrastructure projects. To create significant scenarios the methodology is dependent on the availability of a sufficient quantity of quality data. For this paper that data was collected through a focus group composed of stakeholders from the region in question. This was further supported by the performance of an impact survey using the same group of stakeholders.

The sustainable development of the industrial enterprises in the Qaidam Circular Economy Pilot Zone must meet both the current needs and the future development, as well as the economic and ecological development, as well as the dual development of industrial enterprises and regions. For the industrial enterprises in the experimental area, in order to ensure sustainable development, their own strategies and efforts are very important, but in a policy-dependent area like Haixi Prefecture, the influencing factors of the objective environment are more important. The impact of sustainable development of HaiXi industrial enterprises is of great practical significance. Therefore, according to the subjectivity of Haixi Prefecture and the experimental area and the nature of industrial enterprises, the objective environmental factors are divided into four categories: regional development, regional material resources, regional greening, and regional security. In the end, it was concluded that industrial enterprises in the test area not only need to pay attention to the restraint of their sustainable development in terms of brain drain, energy consumption and environmental greening, but also continue to maintain the role of regional development and regional security in promoting their sustainable development.

Studying the impact of land urbanization on smog pollution has important guiding significance for the sustainable development of cities. This study adds the spatial effect between regions into the research framework of smog pollution control in China. On the basis of a panel dataset of 31 province-level administrative regions in China from 2000 to 2017, we investigate the impact of land urbanization on smog pollution. We construct a spatial weight matrix and use Moran’s I statistic and the spatial autoregressive panel data model. The research results show that land urbanization and smog pollution have an inverted U-shaped relationship. With the advancement of land urbanization, the area’s smog pollution first increases and then decreases. However, in general, China has not passed the inflection point and is still at a stage where increasing land urbanization rate aggravates smog pollution. Moreover, the country’s smog pollution has a significant spatial positive correlation that shows agglomeration. In that context, multiple environmental governance entities, including the government, enterprises, and the public, need to collaborate on measures to reduce smog pollution. Future urban construction in China will need to integrate solutions that address the current nexus between urbanization and smog pollution to achieve green and sustainable development.

Purpose Tax risks are common in China but often ignored by enterprises. Determining how to measure tax risks and effectively identify and control influencing factors is the key to the sustainable development of enterprises. This study aims to explore the key factors affecting corporate tax risks and analyze influencing factors from external and internal perspectives. Design/methodology/approach After selecting a data set comprising 11,503 firm-year observations of Chinese firms in the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges from 2008–2017, this study applied a panel regression model to identify the factors’ impact. Findings The results indicate that the more standardized the institutional environment and stronger the tax supervision, the lower the tax risks. Taking into account the internal factors of a firm, private companies with political connections have lower tax risks than those without. Originality/value This study enriches the literature on the factors affecting tax risks. The conclusion provides significant insights for enterprises to effectively control tax risks and maintain sustainability. The research findings also provide a new perspective for the government to guard against corporate risks and maintain the stable development of the economy.

An issue of Sustainable Environmental Development has occupied a wide range of interests of researchers and economists in some developing countries. The environmental issues are tightly linked to the development policies and the environmental grasp is no longer a matter of social welfare, but rather is a matter of economical; social and human dimensions. The research displays a concept of sustainable development, then estimating the impact of two variables: the economic development and the bio-ecological system on the sustainable development of some countries, including Iraq according to the fact that “increasing demand for foods and products in these countries has led them towards the intensive usage of natural resources which has, eventually, impairs the rates of development and contributes in the deterioration of bio-ecological system and impairs the sustainable development. The results of the analysis showed that the environmental ecosystem variable has a greater impact on sustainable environmental development than the economic development variable, which means that the environmental situation of some countries, especially the developing countries, continue to deteriorate, requiring all specialists and governments to make efforts to preserve the ecosystem for future generations.

This article examines and explains the necessity and importance of studying the conceptual provisions of sustainable development of enterprises and organizations in the real sector of the economy, taking into account the current environmental, economic, social situation. Also, the work is developing scientific and theoretical provisions on increasing the level of safety of industrial enterprises. Special attention is paid to studying the theoretical and methodological foundations of the concept of “compliance-safety” and the development of methodological foundations of its potential use in the current conditions of the Ukrainian economy to increase the level of sustainable development of enterprises in the real sector of the economy. After analyzing the current state, methodological and practical recommendations, which are associated with potential changes in the number of compliance-safety violations in the domestic economy, were formed. In this regard, the scientific community was invited to expand the terminology base by introducing the terms “compliance safety”, which should be formulated based on the current understanding of the term “compliance”, as well as close to the concept of “economic security” and “sustainable development”. This approach makes it possible to significantly impact the sustainability of the development of industrial enterprises and the economy of the state as a whole. Thanks to this definition, it is possible to consider the dynamics of the compliance safety indicator in determining the sustainable development of an enterprise and determine the size and importance of the impact of micro and macro factors on safety. In this work, special theoretical and methodological provisions and methodological recommendations were developed for assessing the value of a comprehensive compliance safety indicator. The authors’ proposals were tested at many machine-building enterprises of the North-Eastern industrial region of Ukraine.
