Contaminant levels of cadmium (Cd) in tin mine tailings often exceeds the upper limit.  Relatively high Cd content might  decrease crop yields and threatened food chain. Bioremediation by using  indigenous microbes to lower soil Cd shoud be done prior to use tailings for cultivation. The objective of this experiment was to obtain information about the capacity of  indigenous bacterias to induce bacterial proliferation  in the rhizosphere, corn growth during the early vegetative stage and change the concentration of Cd in soil and plants. Pot experiment was set up in  a Randomized Block Design consist of several combination of  two bacterial isolates and their doses.  Maize seeds were sown in  tailings from the mine site on the island of Bangka and inoculated with indigenous bacteria. The results showed that the bacterial inoculation increased number of bacteria in the rhizosphere  and plant height, but only isolates BKH1 with a dose of 5 mL/plants that increased plant dry weight. Soil Cd content decreased when inoculated by bacteria although not statistically significant, while the effect of inoculation on plant Cd uptake was inconsistent.

An important aspect in the cultivation of vegetables is the quality of the product to be marketed, free from dirt and damage and the practice of mulching could be an option, but there is scarse information. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of mulching on the production traits of three cultivars of Pak Choi. The experiment was set up during March to May 2013 using a split plot randomized block design, with four replications. Soil cover treatments (white agrotextile, black agrotextile, black plastic, silver plastic, tifton straw and bare soil) were arranged in the plots, and three cultivars of Pak Choi (Green Pak Choi, White Pak Choi and Chingensai Natsu Shomi) in subplots. Height and diameter of shoots, number of leaves, fresh weight of the head and petiole, base diameter, dry weight of stem, petiole, and leaf were evaluated thirty-five days after transplantation. The total dry weight and leaf area were measured, and then we estimated the yield. There was a significant effect of soil cover and cultivar. In general, the cover with synthetic materials showed higher values on production of Pak Choi. The cultivar White Pak Choi was better adapted to the growing conditions, with an average yield of 57.78 t/ha.

Fulfilment of nutrients for plants can be maximized when fertilization, but the application of inorganic fertilizers can cause damage to the soil if the dosage is excessive. The utilization of phosphate solubilizing bacteria is an effort to increase the efficiency of phosphate fertilization that can extract phosphate from an insoluble form that becomes available. This study aimed to obtain a combination of inorganic fertilization doses (SP-36 and NPK) and the application of biological fertilizers that utilize phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) to increase the population of phosphate solubilizing bacteria and P-available in the soil, as well as corn crop yields. This study used a randomized block design with nine treatments and three replications. The result showed that the application of PSB and inorganic phosphate fertilizer shows a significant effect on the population of PSB, P-available, plant height, stover dry weight, cob weight with husk and cob weight without husk, but didn’t show a significant effect on 100 seeds weight and number of plant leaves. Based on the correlation analysis, the results show a positive correlation between soil chemical properties, P-available, and corn yield.

Nursery success is one of the important things in the oil palm plantation business. Nurseries are the beginning of efforts to cultivate palm plants, so the nurseries must consider all the conditions that can affect the development of the growth of oil palm plants. One important requirement is to conduct nurseries that tend to be organic, which are environmentally friendly. The use of organic fertilizers and sustainable biological fertilizers is very important in increasing soil fertility, growth and crop yields. Organic fertilizer that used is sugar mill wasted blotong and biological fertilizer is mychorrhizal. To determine the effect of giving sugar mill waste blotong and mycorrhizal applications on P nutrient levels in the Main Nursery. This study uses factorial randomized block design method (RAK). First factor is blotong (B): B0= control, B1= 500 gr blotong/seed, B2= 100 gr blotong/seed. Second factor is Mycorrhizal (M): M0= control, M1= 10 gr mycorrhizal arbusculae/seed, M2= 20 gr mycorrhizal arbusculae/seed. 9 treatment combinations were obtained with 4 replications, so the total treatment was 36. Blotong compost application significantly affected palm seed height, canopy dry weight and root dry weight, while mycorrhizal application only significantly affected seed height. the combination between them two gives the best effect on B1M1 treatment.

Introduction: The growing of maize (zea mays L.) in Latin America is carried out under the intensive production system, which causes loss of soil fertility due to excessive nitrogen fertilizer. Objective: Analyzing the response of maize var. Jala to genera of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) endophytes of maize var. Mexicana (teocintle) when using nitrogen fertilizer such as urea at 50 % under greenhouse and soil conditions. Methodology: A randomized block design was established with five treatments, three controls and twenty repetitions. The treatments with inoculated maize seeds and 50 % urea were: Burkholderia (KO) and Burkholderia sp. 14 (B14); the controls were: non-inoculated maize with 50 % urea (RC1), non-inoculated maize irrigated with water (FC) and non-inoculated maize with 100 % urea (RC2). The experiments were established under greenhouse and soil conditions. The response variables were radical dry weight (RDW) and fresh weight of grain (FWG). ANOVA and Tukey’s mean comparison (P ≤ 0.01) were carried out. Results: In both environments, treatment B14 showed statistically higher values than those obtained with FC (full control), but statistically equal to RC2 (relative control). Study limitations: Maize varieties have specific and beneficial endophytic PGPB genera, which are not necessarily for regional varieties. Originality: PGPB endophytes from teocintle (ancestor of maize) were used because of their close genetic relationship with the maize var. Jala. Conclusion: PGPB endophytes from teocintle are a viable option for sustainable maize production.

Peanut production has decreased, among others, due to cultivation techniques, varieties, diseases and increasingly narrow planting areas. One of the cultivation techniques to increase crop yields is the use of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) and spacing. The research method used was Randomized Block Design, factorial pattern. Consisting of two treatment factors, namely POC concentration (0, 5, 10, and 15 ml L-1 water) and spacing (30 cm x 10 cm, 30 cm x 15 cm and 30 cm x 20 cm), repeated three times. .. The results showed that: (1) there was an interaction between POC treatment and plant spacing on the number of pithy seeds and dry seed weight per plot. Independently, liquid organic fertilizer and plant spacing had an effect on plant height, number of leaves, dry weight of stover, number of filled pods, number of empty pods, percentage of filled pods and weight of 100 seeds, and (2) At a spacing of 30 cm x 15 cm, The optimum POC concentration was 13.24 ml L-1 of water, with a maximum dry seed weight of 1.436 kg plot-1 or equivalent to 2.66 tons ha-1.

Papaya is a popular fruit and is grown commercially in many subtropical and tropical countries. Papayas are generally grown from seeds; therefore the offsprings are not true-to-type and could come in three sexes, female, male, and hermaphrodite. Clonal propagation is required to obtain to grow true-to-type hermaphrodite papayas. In this research, we developed an in vitro protocol for shoot multiplication from lateral shoots from in vitro germinated papaya seedlings. The in vitro propagated plant materials could potentially be used as a source of papaya micro cuttings, or as scion for papaya grafting. The experiment was set up as a factorial experiment with NAA at 0, 0.1 and 0.5 mg.L-1, and BAP at 0, 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg.L-1 in a completely randomized block design. BAP interacted with NAA in affecting the shoot production per explant. The optimum BAP and NAA concentration to produce lateral shoots was 0.54 mg. L-1 and 0.1 mg.L-1, respectively. Media without NAA reduced the number of lateral shoots and number of leaf per explant at any BAP concentration. Keywords: hermaphrodite, seeds, true to type, clonal propagation, micro cuttings.

Efforts to increase production potential can be carried out by extensification in a less productive saline land. Salinity is a major problem in the growth of most plants. Azolla is a plant that is sensitive to salinity, but if it is applied well, it can grow optimally at high salinity levels. The purpose of this study is to obtain an azolla application technique that is effective in increasing the adaptation of rice plants to NaCl saline soil conditions. The experimental design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was the azolla application technique consisted of 3 levels: fresh azolla composted, fresh azolla immersed, and fresh azolla as a ground cover. The second factor was the levels of NaCl salt stress consisted of 4 levels: control DHL 0, 2, 4, and 8 dS m-1. The adaptation ability of rice plants based on variable plants height growth rate, number of tillers, strove dry weight, root dry weight, stomata density, leaf chlorophyll (SPAD), age of flowering, number of paddy grain, and harvest index. The results showed how to test content up to 2 dS m-1 which increased rice growth especially the application of azolla composted. Increasing stress to 4 and 8 dS m-1showed bad effects on vegetative, physiology, and yields of rice components. The stronger of salt stress the higher all plants growth variables except the age of flowering that actually showed the acceleration of flowering. Application of composted azolla can increase the root dry weight and azolla as a ground cover can increase the numbers of paddy grains.   Keywords: azolla, NaCl, rice, stress
