Accountability in providing public administration to the poor people in the Social Department of Makassar. This study was qualitative case study approach, while the instruments were the researchers themselves. This study showed that the accountability in providing public administration to the poor people had not run optimally. There were various approaches and alleviation programs for poverty that had not been able to change significantly. There was no continuous program during the official turnover. If the official was changed, then the policy would be changed, thus the programs were ineffective to minimize the poverty in Makassar. The policies and the supports were necessary from all the elements of construction and the involvement of entrepreneurs like stakeholders and community leaders. The government is necessary to take a role in uniting and bridging these issues. In addition, the strategic planning was necessary to involve society, not only as objects of development but also to be involved as the subject of development to alleviate the poverty in Makassar.

The removal of English in elementary schools in the 2013 Curriculum has surprised education practitioners in Indonesia, whereas English is an international language that needs to be taught to all students throughout Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to analyze an English teacher’s perception on the removal of the English subject at elementary school in Cipatat. This research used a qualitative case study approach that focuses on individual experience through an interview. The results of this research explained that the removal of English made students not enthusiastic in learning English, which especially impacted on their lack of knowledge of vocabulary at the next level. Therefore, teachers must give more motivation to students despite their teaching load, and they must be more optimal and creative in teaching with limited time every week. On the other hand, as students in Indonesia tend to lack interest in reading, the removal of English at this level gives them an advantage, which is to make students increase their literacy and love their national language more.

COVID-19 and the shift to online teaching necessitated a change in approach for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teachers in preparing their students for university studies. This study explored how EAP instructors coped with and adapted their provision for emergency remote teaching. The study was conducted at an English-medium university in Hong Kong and a qualitative case study approach was adopted. The results revealed two overarching themes of opportunity and challenge. While the sudden shift to online teaching forced innovation and fostered collaborative learning and feedback, teachers experienced difficulties in communicating with students and monitoring their learning. The study voices teacher perspectives in delivering EAP courses online and highlights important implications for the successful delivery of future online EAP provisions.

The disappearance of young men in on-going armed conflict over the last 3 decades in Kashmir has given birth to a new identity to the women. This identity is called half-widows. The term, half-widows, signifies those women whose husbands have disappeared in armed conflict but are not declared dead yet. Men are directly involved in the armed conflicts and are the direct victims of it, but women are the ones who have been going through all the consequences of armed conflict. This article contextualizes the phenomenon of enforced disappearance in Kashmir and its grave consequences on women. Based on the qualitative case-study approach, 15 half-widows were interviewed in 2017 to examine their social, economic and psychological problems. Information from secondary sources was also incorporated.
