<p>This research will tend to find out the significance and the effect Self Talk Strategy in Public Speaking as EFL classroom on the third year students (Academic Year 2013) at English Department in FKIP Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This research will use experimental research design. To answer the problems of the research, the writer uses the following theories: O’Malley, et al. (2002), Braiker (1987), Vygotsky (1986), Winsler et al (2009), Gaskins (2005) in self-talk strategy and the writer uses the theory of Harris (1969), Ur (1996), Harmer (1998), Scrinever (2005), Thornburry (2005), Grugeon et al (2005) and Harmer (2007). The population of this research is the third year students (Academic Year 2013) at English Department that sit in Public Speaking Class  in FKIP Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar. There are 40 students taken as the sample of this research. The sample was divided into two groups: the first group (20 students) as the experimental group and the second group (20 students) as the control group. The writers will give a treatment in class by applying self talk strategy in teaching speaking in public speaking class. To analyze the data, the writer uses the theory of Arikunto. After analyzing and calculating the data, the writer finds that The Mean Score was 7.8 and the value of t-test was higher than t-table (t-test &gt; t-table), 2.671 &gt; 1.686. Ha (Alternate Hypothesis) was accepted and Ho (Null Hypothesis) was rejected.</p><p> </p><strong>Keywords: </strong> Self Talk Strategy, Speaking, English, Foreign Language, Teaching

The aim of this research is to know the effect of using Predict Observe Explain (POE) method toward students’ achievement in Physics. This is an experimental research by using experimental group and control group. The research design was Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population of this research was the students of class VII SMPN 1 Lembar academic year 2015/2016. The sampling technique was Cluster Random Sampling in which class VII 2 as the control group and class VII 3 as the experimental group. Both of the groups were given a pre-test before the treatment to know the homogeneity of the groups. The instrument used is an objective test in form of multiple choices. The finding showed that the mean of the posttest in experimental group was 70 and the control group was 60.67, in which both of them were distributed normal and homogeneous. The post-test result was analyzed by using t-test (t-test polled variants) in which the value of the was 2.473 and the  was 2.015 with dk=46 and the significant level was 5%. It showed that the was accepted and was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that Predict Observe Explain (POE) Method gave significant effect to the students’ achievement in Physics at Class VII SMPN 1 Lembar Academic year 2015/2016.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Vocabularies represent the basic elements of any language, thus, if there wasn’t sufficient control in using them then the result would be a difficulty in vocabulary retention when needed. The Picture Word Inductive Model Strategy (PWIM) than traditional methods. The current study aims at investigating the effectiveness of using (PWIM) Strategy in developing EFL Iraqi students' vocabulary retention. The study is conducted by using an achievement test to check the study sample. The researcher has selected a sample of (65) students in third stage in English Department in the Colleges of Education at Missan University in the Academic Year (2021-2022). The students are divided into two groups, the first group is the experimental group and the second group is the control group. In order to find out whether there are any statistically significant differences among the two groups’ achievement, the researcher applied the T-test formula for the two samples in an independent way. Based on the outcome of the study, there are statistically remarkable differences appeared in the results from the two groups. Accordingly, the study proves that using (PWIM) can increase the vocabulary retention of the students.</p>

The study aimed at describing the use of contextual teaching and learning on students’ speaking skills. Apart from analyzing the students’ problems, it also looked at improvement in the students’ speaking skills through the use of contextual teaching and learning. The research involved of the third semester students at KeluargaBunda Jambi Midwifery Academy academic year 2015/2016. The students were 50 students consists of 25 as experimental group and 25 students as control group. This was an experimental research, conducted in experimental group and control group. Each group consists of five meeting. The material for the first meeting was about examination of pregnancy. The second meeting was about examination of Leopold. The third meeting was about baby’s care. The fourth meeting was about breast self-exam. And the last meeting was about infuse. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and recording. The findings show that there was a significant effect between students who taught using CTL and who taught by using conventional teaching. The test result of experimental group after being analyzed was 0.023 < 0.05. The analysis was conducted the mean score of each category both pretest and posttestin experimental group was higher than control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that contextual teaching and learning can help teacher to teach the students easier and students are easier to understand the material.

This study aims to investigate about the Effectiveness of Using Word Mapping Technique in Teaching Students Vocabulary at The First Grade Students of SMAN 8 Mataram in Academic Year 2014/2015. There were 79 students as sample. This study used quasi experimental non-equivalent research design. The data analysis showed the mean score of experimental group is higher than the mean score of control group. the use of word mapping technique is effective in teaching vocabulary. The deviation of the two mean scores (26.78/17.2) was also significant. It read that the value of t-test was 4.35 while the value of t-table was 2.000 on the level of significant 0.05 (95%) and 2.660 on the level significant 0.01 (99%). This figure indicated that the value of t-calculated was higher than t-value of t- table 4.35 > 2.000 and 2.660. The data indicated that t-test was higher than t-table, it means that the alternative hypothesis (H3) is accepted. Word maps technique maintain the students learning about words through mapping because helps them examine the characteristics of the word concepts, categorize words, and see relationships among words that are similar as well as those that may be different.

The objectives of this study were to find out : (1) the significant improvement on the third semester students’ reading comprehension before and after being taught using Think-Pair-Share technique at STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia; and (2) the significant difference on students’ reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using Think-Pair-Share technique and those who were not. The population of this study was all the third semester students of STIK Siti Khadijah Palembang which consist of 56 students in academic year 2018/2019. The sample of this study was taken by using total sampling. Thus, the total number of the sample was 56 students. The sample was the third semester students at D.III Nursing Study Program (experimental group) which consist of 28 students and the third semester students at S1 Nursing Study Program (control group) which consist of 28 students. The test was given twice to both experimental and control group. True experimental design was used to analyzed the data. To verify the hypotheses, the data used only posttest design to analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test was 0.005 which was lower than 0.05.The result of this study showed that Reading Comprehension by using Think-Pair-Share technique gave significant improvement on the students’ reading comprehension and gave significant difference between students’ who were taught by Think-Pair-Share technique and those who were not.

<p>This research aimed to find out whether or not there is an effect of Predict Observe Explain Write on the critical thinking ability of the X graders of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year on 2012/2013. This study was a quasi experiment research. Posstet only nonequivalent control group design is used in this research. The population of research was all X grades of SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year 2012/2013 consisiting 285 students. Cluster sampling.is used to this research. The result of cluster sampling is choosen for X6 as experimental gruop and X7 as control group. Predict observe explain write model is applied in experimental group and conventional model is applied in control group.  The data was collected by using critical thinking test, observastion sheet, and school documents. The data were analyzed by t-test. The results of this research shows that the mean of student’s capability of critical thinking in experiment class higher than control class, it was 70,41 for experiment class and 61,98 for control class.  The result of hypothesis is analyzed by t-test and it gets significant value 0,000 (sig.&lt;0,05), so the Predict Observe Explain Write model has effect toward student’s capability of critical thinking. This conclution is the application of Predict Observe Explain Write models has real effect toward critical thinking ability of X grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sukoharjo in academic year on 2012/2013.</p><p align="center"> </p><p class="0jTULISANKATAKUNCIKEYWORDS">Key Words: Predict Observe Explain model, Think Talk Write strategy, Critical Thinking Ability</p>

The objectives of this research is to find out whether the using authentic materials on teaching speaking is effective for eleventh grade students of Islamic High School of  Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakartain academic year 2013/2014 and whether there is any significance difference between students’ speaking ability taught by using authentic materials and thestudents’ speaking who taught by using created materials. This research is experimental research. The participants of the research were the eleventh grade students of Islamic High School of Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakartain academic year 2013/2014. The research instrument used by the researcher was speaking test. The data in the research were mainly gathered through the use of pre-test and post-test. After the data were collected, the writer analyzed them. The researcher used  SPSS16.0  to analyze the students’ speaking ability between the experimental group and the control group after the authentic materials was applied. Seeing from the finding of the research, it shows that there is a difference scores got by the students in theexperimental group and in the control group after the authentic material was applied. In the pre-test result, the mean of the experimental group was 58.85 and 58.94 for the control group. In post-test, after the authentic material was applied, the mean of the experimental group became 73.94 and 63.15 for the control  group. It can be seen that the mean of the experimental group was higher than the control group in post-test. Seeing from the comparison of mean between the experimental group and the control group, it can  be known that teaching speaking by using authentic material is effective. In order to find the answer of the hypothesis, certain statistics was used. The analysis of hypothesis testing was conducted using  ANCOVA. From the computation, it was known that the significance of value was 0.029 < 0.05, then the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, the hypothesis shows that there is a significance difference between students taught using authentic material and those taught without using created material is accepted

The aim of this study was to know the effectiveness of the use of alphabet cards game as interesting tool to explain vocabularies and it make it easier to remember their meanings. This study belongs to the quasi experimental research and presents pre-test, post test and to investigate the effect of using alphabet cards game on vocabulary mastery of commercial business administration students. The participants were the students from commercial business administration students at the third semester (N=54) of State Polytechnic Bengkalis and divided into two groups. Both groups were taught vocabulary, however, the experimental group students who are exposed to alphabet cards game and the controlled group students who received conventional method. Pre-test and post-test were given to both experimental group students and controlled group students. The score of the vocabulary tests were compared through independent sample t-test. The mean value of pre-test of experimental class was 61.35, while the control class was 52.23. After learning using alphabet card games in experimental class the mean value obtained in post-test was 78.85, while in control class was 59.04.  The improved of learning outcomes can be seen from the level of significance was 0.000 and it was lower than t test 0.000<0.05.  It means that the hypothesis null is not accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the score of the students in learning vocabulary between the experimental group and control group was significantly different. The experimental group students who learned vocabulary using alphabet cards game had increased their vocabulary mastery.

This study tried find the students’ improvement in listening achievement after having taught by using the shadowing technique. The method used was a quasi-experimental that involved two groups, namely the control group and experimental group. The population of this study was all the tenth graders of SMA Negeri 3 Unggulan Kayuagung with a total number of 198 tenth graders. Purposive sampling method was applied to select the sample involved 72 tenth graders. In collecting the data, try out the test was used to get the desirable questions that would be used in the pretest and posttest to both groups in the control and experimental group. To verify the hypothesis, the normality and homogeneity of the data were firstly analyzed before being continued to be analyzed by using a t-test. Based on the result of data analysis in an independent sample t-test, there were some findings found. First, the mean score of a posttest (75.56) in the experimental group was higher than the pretest (69.03) in the control group. Secondly, the value of tobtained was 2.77 at the significant level of p<0.05 in two-tailed testing with df = 70, the critical value of ttable was 1.99. Since the value of tobtained was higher than ttable, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the research hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, it showed that the shadowing technique could improve the tenth-grade students’ listening achievement at SMA Negeri 3 Unggulan Kayuagung.
