This study, with the aim of identifying the predictive power of the five-factor personality traits of music teacher candidates on individual instrument performance anxiety, was designed according to the relational screening model. The study population was students attending the Music Education branch of Fine Arts Education Departments in Educational Faculties in Turkey with the sample comprising 256 students attending the Music Education branch of Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Pamukkale University and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University during the 2016-2017 academic year. For data collection in the study, the Individual Instrument Performance Test Anxiety Scale developed by Dalkıran et al. (2014) and the Adjective-based Personality Test developed by Bacanlı et al. (2009) according to the five factor concept were used. Correlation analysis was performed to test whether there was a significant correlation between the individual instrument performance anxiety of students and the five factor personality traits. Additionally, to determine the predictive power of the five factor personality traits on individual instrument test performance anxiety of Music Education branch students, standard multiple regression analysis was performed. Data were tested at the significance level of 0.05. According to the obtained data, it can be said there is a significant correlation between the individual instrument performance anxiety levels and the five factor personality traits of Music Education branch students. A positive and high level relationship was identified between performance anxiety levels and the five factor personality trait of emotional balance/neuroticism, while there was no correlation with agreeableness and performance anxiety level. Extraversion and openness to experience had a negative correlation with performance anxiety level, while there was a positive correlation observed between conscientiousness and performance anxiety. The five factor personality traits of emotional balance/neuroticism and conscientiousness positively and significantly predicted performance anxiety, while extraversion negatively and significantly predicted performance anxiety level. Contrarily, openness to experience and agreeableness were not identified to significantly predict performance anxiety level.

Emotions and breathing are closely linked in a complex feedback loop. Understanding this interrelationship between breathing and emotions is critical to better understanding how to deal with anxiety, stress, depression, and emotional disturbances. During emotional attacks and anxious states, the autonomic nervous system triggers physiological variables such as heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, hormonal secretions, palpitations, gastrointestinal functions suddenly increase as a result of which the normal social and behavioral functions of the individual are disturbed. It is generally believed that deep breathing, practiced with various techniques, such as qigong and yoga, can promote relaxation. Source searches were carried out on the online portal of journal publications as many as 10 sources from Medscape, Google Scholar, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) with the keywords anxiety, relaxation, and deep breathing. Deep breathing relaxation has been shown to be effective in reducing the perception and symptoms of anxiety. Deep breathing offers several advantages over conventional therapies currently used to treat anxiety problems. These advantages include a non-pharmacological approach, safety, minimal space requirements, ease of learning, and ease of practice.

ABSTRACTThis research was aimed to find out whether there is a correlation between students’ anxiety level and oral presentation’s performance in EFL speaking class. The population of this research was the 4th semester students in English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University class A, B and C with 51 students randomly chosen as the sample. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative with questionnaire and presentation test as the instruments. The questionnaire of this research was FLCAS (Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scales) by Horwitz (1986) meanwhile the presentation test was a presentation test rubric evaluated by two raters in order to find the reliability of the test. The result of this research showed that there was a significant negative correlation between students’ anxiety level and oral presentation test score from rater 1 and rater 2. Based on the result, the strength of this correlation was moderate. On the other hand, both of the results were in negative directions. The finding also showed that most of the students had “Mildly Anxious” level of anxiety and “Basic” category from presentation test score. It can be concluded that anxiety can influenced the students’ speaking skill especially while performing a presentation in front of the class. Some factors as like fear of making mistakes, being seen by a lot of people, or being interrupted by the lecturers can increase the students’ anxiety. Anxiety is recognized as a potential risk factor for false-positive result derived from radiological image. This study investigated patients’ anxiety levels on exposure to computer tomography and experience of claustrophobia. The study adopts a correlation research design. A total of 96 patients made-up of 49 males (50%) and 47 females (48%) subjects undergoing CT scan examination at the Radiology Department of Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi was recruited for this study. Participants responded to STAI (Form-1) a Nigerian re-standardized version and Radomsky’s Claustrophobia questionnaire. The results of the analysis shows that; there is a strong positive correlation between patients’ levels of anxiety and exposure to computer tomography examination including normal anxiety of r (96) = .812, p< .0.01), mild anxiety level r (96) = .823, p< .0.01), moderate anxiety level r (96)= .746, p< .0.01), severe anxiety r(96) = .669, p< .0.01), and extremely severe anxiety level, r (96) = .220, p<. 0.01). However, there is a negative correlation between patients’ exposure to computer tomography examination and experience of claustrophobia, r (96) = -.18, p< .0.01). There is also a significant difference between male and female levels of anxiety and experience of claustrophobia during exposure to CT scan examination, with males score (M=20.4082, SD=2.39721, N=96) and females score (M=21.1489, SD= 3.03586), t (94) = -1.330, p< .05) for anxiety, males score (M=43.0213, SD=12.04609), and females score (M=42.2979, SD=11.89248) on exposure to CT scan t (94) = .293, p< .05) claustrophobia symptoms, males score (M=15.7083, SD=14.02878) females score (M=13.9149, SD=10.75989), t (94) = .698, p< .05). The study proved that anxiety and claustrophobia is commonly experienced by patients undergoing CT scan examination. Hence, pre-counselling/education should always be used to prepare as well as mitigate anxiety related reactions in patients prior to CT scan in order to achieve a successful outcome of the procedure.
