The article seeks to explore the contemporary issues of meaningful content of a competitive advantage in achieving strategic goals. The study offers an attempt to provide a deeper understanding of competitive advantage origin and generation and suggests two patterns:  competitive advantage as an outcome of effective resource management and the performance efficiency (activity success) as an outcome of gaining a competitive advantage. The relationship between the organizational knowledge categories and enterprise strategy is presented. It is argued that innovative knowledge shapes a favourable environment for building competitive advantages. The literature review on modern approaches to building company competitive advantages has allowed identifying three main areas: market-based approach, resource-based approach and partnership-based approach. It is suggested to differentiate each of the above approaches to generating competitive advantages from the three basic perspectives: in terms of the source of competitive advantage, barriers to imitation of competitive advantages and from the position of the company strategic goals. A retrospective analysis of the meaningful content of a competitive advantage concept contributed to providing the author’s interpretation of this category with an emphasis on the relevance of its consideration within three projections – market position, unique resources / opportunities and partnership interaction with further focus on specific drivers of competitive advantages as an impetus for partnership collaboration in the business environment. Among the factors able to boost competitive advantages the study considers the following: innovative knowledge exchange possibilities and building the capacity to create additional resources / opportunities (tangible and intangible). A competitive advantage within the scope of this study is viewed as company's ability to respond quickly to market demands through the effective use of unique resources / opportunities (own and derived from partnerships in the current business environment) in order to most effectively meet the customer needs and expectations.

The paper examines the specific knowledge universities transfer to industry, reflecting to creative industry needs. As results shows, the most asked alumni competences should be tacit knowledge and divergent thinking. Divergent thinking influence the creativity. Creativity is often defined as the ability to develop new and useful ideas, but in deep literature review, we can see few irregularities and different definitions of creativity. The paper also evaluates the importance of creativity from business environment point of view and from the creative industry perspective and creative firm owners. As point of view. Another key finding is, that to educate creative people will be one of the key competitive advantage, because mainly the ability to create and disseminate knowledge is often at the heart of the organization's competitive advantage not only in creative industry, but in transport industry as well.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of leadership orientation on competitive advantage with innovation as a mediating (intervening) variable. Design/methodology/approach Quantitative methods (Creswell, 2010) are used as the study design. It is an explanatory research with the purpose of explaining the phenomenon or pattern of correlation between concepts (Kothary, 2004). SMEs (small and medium entrepreneurs) of typical food products of Riau domiciled in Kepulauan Meranti Regency are the focus of this study; the sample size included 258 respondents. Findings There is a significant effect of leadership orientation on innovation. Higher leadership orientation will result in higher innovation. There is a significant effect of innovation on competitive advantage. Higher innovation will result in higher competitive advantage. Innovation as a mediation variable in the relationship between leadership orientation and competitive advantage indicates that higher leadership orientation will cause a higher competitive advantage, if the mediated innovation is also higher. Originality/value The originality of this research lies in innovation as a mediating (intervening) variable and a complement of a previous study by including the indicator that measures the variables of the research so that research results can be completed and detailed.

The importance of learning transfer in ensuring that learning contributes to an organization's competitive advantage has been undermined in organizational practice. There are two major reasons for this: 1) few studies directly explore the relationship between transfer and performance improvement, and 2) most existing transfer models are too complex for practitioners to implement. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the link between learning transfer activities and performance outcomes, and to create a framework for implementing an effective learning transfer solution. A targeted literature review meta-analysis was used to explore the performance impact of training vs. training plus transfer activities. The authors compute “difference scores” representing the percentage of improvement from the transfer activities over training alone. Activities are categorized into a framework of eleven critical learning transfer actions. They then implement the elements of the Learning Transfer Framework in three demonstration projects. By incorporating findings from the literature review, meta-analysis, and the demonstration projects, the authors propose a new transfer framework that is effective and easy to implement. Implications and directions for future researchers are advanced.

Modern business environment throws hard punches not just at an individual level but at team level too. In today’s sweeping and highly complex environment, top teams need to be more than just high performers. They need to adapt and thrive, regardless of the turbulence they face. Research revealed that resilient teams can be more agile and adjust easily with the varying demands of its market. Appreciating the importance of resilience in team-context, this study examined the relationship among team resilience (TR), competitive advantage (CA), and organizational effectiveness (OE). Using descriptive research design data were collected from 300 employees aggregated into 71 teams from 18 IT firms located in Northern India. Statistical analyses found a significant relationship between TR and OE. CA was found to be a partial mediator among the relationship between TR and OE. Findings underline the strength of a relationship and predictive ability of various dimensions of TR with OE and CA. Based on the empirical results, the researcher proposed a Team Resilience Building Framework (TRBF). The organizations may benefit from the research findings in terms of devising the strategies to enhance resilience capacity of their teams.

Economic development in Indonesia MSMEs has an important role because the majority of Indonesia's population lives from MSME activities both in the traditional and modern sector. MSME in Central Java is also quite good. However, MSMEs in Central Java also experienced an increase in competitiveness, especially with similar businesses. Therefore, entrepreneurs are required to be able to innovate and dare to explore the resources it has for its business can continue to grow and survive amid the competition. In this study, the authors explain the condition of competitiveness of SMEs in the Kudus Regency is the business of embroidery which from year to year always decreased. Based on the result of the theoretical study directing this study developed a model with five research variables covering entrepreneurial orientation, business environment adaptability, internal resources of company, competitive advantage, and company performance. The results of the analysis show that the entrepreneurship orientation does not positively affect the competitive advantage. The adaptability of the business environment positively affects the competitive advantage. Internal resources of the company positively influence the competitive advantage. Entrepreneurship orientation positively affects the company's performance. Internal resources of the company positively affect the company's performance. Competitive advantage positively affects the company's performance.

<p>In today’s dynamic business environment, for companies to exist, they must continuously look for areas for improvement and gain competitive advantage. It therefore becomes quintessential for companies to know which factors can have a positive effect on the company’s performance. The purpose of this article is thus to explore if there a relationship between the HR expenses of an Indian company and its financial performance and is this impact positive enough to motivate these companies to augment such efforts in improving the HR management practices. For, this purpose, data on expenditure on human resource and profit after tax (PAT) for BSE- SENSEX 30 companies was extracted for the period of10 years. In order to test the hypothesis of this study, correlation and regression analyses were performed. Results of correlation revealed that HR expenditures are positively related to Firms performance. The findings from regression analysis revealed that HR expenditure have statistically significant effect on a firm’s financial performance.</p>

Purpose Small-scale forestry-based enterprising communities are particularly associated with their territory and, therefore, are very conditioned by the local culture. This paper aims to explore the relationship between culture and competitiveness in small-scale Latin-American forestry-based enterprising communities. Design/methodology/approach This study used 212 surveys in companies linked to the production, industrialisation and commercialisation sector of the forestry industry in the province of Misiones (Argentina), using partial least squares to analyse the relationships thereof. Findings Culture and competitive advantages improve the growth of small-scale timber businesses and growth, in turn, increases financial performance. However, culture does not have an impact on competitive advantage and no interaction effect of culture on competitive advantage was detected. The results can indicate that there might be a need to incorporate other concepts and operationalisation that are better suited to the geographical and industrial contexts in developing countries. Research limitations/implications The literature and measures used to operationalise variables in the survey did not necessarily succeed in capturing the culture in the studied small- and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, the design of the sample and subjective measures may partially condition the results. Practical implications For business managers and consultants, this study indicates that they must take into account the local culture to improve performance. Entrepreneurs must reorient the company strategy towards the long term, integrating local culture into their strategy to generate competitive advantages. Social implications Political authorities and social agents should also take into consideration the cultural aspects of the territory when implementing regulations and specific actions to improve the industry and strengthen the sense of community. The results highlight the vitality of animators and development agencies and of any factor that fosters social cohesion. Originality/value The paper shows a new approach to the relationship between culture and competitiveness in small-scale forestry-based enterprising communities, combining performance in a formal sector with the bazaar model.

This conceptual paperis to study the relationship         of         entrepreneurial competencies on business success in the context of Malaysian SMEs. Inthe recent study, when the business environment is hostile and dynamic, the entrepreneurial competencies are identified as the most important factor in business success. Entrepreneurial competencies are also connected directly to business performance.Beside     entrepreneurial competencies, the entrepreneurs should also be competent to create an innovation and brand equity for business growth. The innovation and brand equity contributed to competitive advantages that lead to business growth and success. This paper adopts the Resource Based Theory (RBT) which emphasize that entrepreneurial competencies, innovation, and brand equity are valuable and intangible resources that lead towards the success of business. There is a dearth of studies that have examined the influence of innovation and brand equity on the relationship of entrepreneurial competencies on thesuccess of Malaysian SMEs business. Therefore the current study strives to investigate the mediating impact of innovation and brand equity on the relationship between entrepreneurial competencies and SMEs business success. This conceptual study will contribute to the existing body knowledge as well as to entrepreneurs of Malaysian’s SMEs.
