Body Mass Index (BMI) is on of most risk factors for ACL injury. Operative treatment and conservative treatment are the exact solution for handling ACL injuries. The aim of this study is to determine the difference of mean Body Mass Index (BMI) in patients with ACL injury post operative and conservative treatments. Type of this research was observational with post test only design and used a cross-sectional approach. Fifteen operative patients and fifteen conservative patients were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, divided into OT (Operative Treatment) and KT(Conservative Treatment) groups. Body weight and body height measurements were carried out to obtain Body Mass Index (BMI). The results obtained by means and p value are OT group 24,59 ± 5,00 Kg/m² > KT group  23,49 ± 2,60 Kg/m² (p= 0,256 > 0,05). The results can be concluded that there is no significant difference BMI between OT and KT group

Background and Objectives: Estimation of dental age is based upon the rate of development and calcification of tooth buds and their progressive sequence of eruption in the oral cavity. The tooth calcification provides a valuable indicator of dental age and serves as an index of the maturation of the child. The aim of this study is to determine whether Body Mass Index (BMI) has association with dental maturation. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study design was applied for the present study, 383 school children were participated in this study which nominated from Erbil city. For the sample to be representative the city was divided in to six geographic areas according to the municipalities, the samples randomly selected school children of 10 to 14 years old from both genders. The height and the weight of each participant had been recorded in the college of dentistry / Hawler Medical University in order to calculate the body mass index of the following the guidelines of centers of disease control (CDC) , at the same time an orthopantomography radiograph had been used to investigate the stage of the dental maturation using the Demirjian method, finally, the relationship between BMI and dental maturation were investigated using chi square test with P value of ≤ 0.05 was considered significant difference. Result: there was a statistically significant relationship between dental maturation and BMI. The majority (93.6%) of samples with under-mature dentition were under-weight at the same time. The vast majority (96%) of samples with mature dentition had normal BMI. In the same manner, majority (91.7%) of samples with over mature dentition were over-weight too. Chi square test was used to find out the association and P-value was 0.001 Conclusion: In conclusion, normal weight students have normal dental maturation, underweight students have under dental maturation and overweight or obese students have over dental maturation. Abstract Background Contemporary literature indicates that a higher body mass index (BMI) serves as a risk factor for metabolic disease and is also correlated with greater disease severity. Subsequently, it has been linked to increased COVID-19 severity. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether regular CrossFit™ participation was associated with lower BMI, decreased COVID-19 severity and susceptibility. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 1806 CrossFit™ (CF) participants. Participants were asked about their age (yrs), sex (male vs. female), ethnic group, body height (cm) and weight (kg). Body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) was computed and consistent with WHO (2018) criteria. Participants self-reported their training history, health and lifestyle history, nutritional customs, present training status and suspected levels of exposure to COVID-19. Once submitted the collected data were coded, cleaned and analysed. Results The final model comprised of 1806 CF individuals from an online survey response rate of 2086. The participants age ranged from 18 to 65+ yrs. Self-reported mean body mass index (BMI: kg/m2) reported that < 1% were underweight, 41% were healthy, 46% overweight, 10% class I obese, 2% class II obese, and < 1% class III obese. A Kruskal–Wallis H test compared gender and self-reported probability of being infected with COVID-19 with significant differences between subgroups (x2 (4, N = 1739) = 10.86, p = 0.03). Analysis of BMI and perceived severity of COVID-19 revealed a difference however not, significant (x2 (4, N = 1739) = 9.46, p = 0.051). Results on BMI and perceived probability of COVID-19 infection revealed no significant difference (x2 (4, N = 1739) = 2.68, p = 0.61). A separate analysis on BMI and perceived COVID-19 susceptibility revealed no significant difference (x2 (4, N = 1740) = 6.02, p = 0.20). Conclusions The purpose of the study was to establish whether habitual CrossFit™ participation is associated with reduced BMI, and to further investigate whether habitual participation impacted perceptions of disease. Results of the study indicate that self-reported CrossFit™ participation during the first UK lockdown, measured in minutes of exercise was indicative of a lower BMI. This has been associated with greater host immunity to disease. A history of CrossFit™ participation was not shown to impact perceptions of disease. However, our sample population reported few changes to habitual exercise during lockdown which may be due to the ‘community’ and increased adherence associated with CrossFit™.

Introduction: Dental caries is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases that have a profound impact on the health of both the individual and community health. The present study aimed to assess the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and dental caries in Rafsanjan children aged 6-10 years in 2019. Materials & Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study that investigated the relationship between body mass index and dental caries in 215 male and female students (6-10 years old), selected by simple random sampling in four groups: slim, normal BMI, overweight, and obese the relationship between BMI and DMFT / dmft had been determined by Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests and Spearman correlation coefficient. Results: There was a significant inverse relationship between dmft index and children's body mass index (p value < 0.001, r = -0.315). There was no significant difference between the mean DMFT index between lean, normal weight, overweight and obese children (p value = 0.205) Conclusion: The dmft index decreased with increasing BMI, and there was no significant relationship between DMFT index and BMI.

ABSTRACT This analytical, cross-sectional and quantitative study aimed at investigating the relationship between body mass index and motor performance of elderly who participated in a peer group. The study site was a elderly' peer group that included 82 people, in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista-BA (Brazil). A statistically significant difference between the variables body mass index (above 27 kg/m2) and limited balance (p-value=0,008), and between body mass index (above 27 kg/m2) and limitation to squat and pick a pencil from the floor (p-value=0.004) was found by applying the Chi-square test. This study found that the body mass index (above 27 kg/m2) negatively influenced the following activities in the elderly: balance and squat to pick up a pencil from the floor.

Abstract Background A significant relationship has been documented in the literature between the autonomic nervous system imbalance and cardiovascular mortality. In patients with autonomic failure, water ingestion has been shown to increase blood pressure (BP), induce bradycardia, and cause low heart rate variability (HRV). A few studies showed the altered HRV as an acute effect of ice water intake in healthy subjects. None of the studies have shown light on the relationship of BP and HRV to ice water intake in obese and overweight subjects. The present study is aimed to correlate BP and HRV with body mass index (BMI) after ice water ingestion. Methods This cross-sectional study included a total of 60 subjects of both sexes aged between 18 and 24 years old. Subjects were assigned into three groups based on their BMI: normal, overweight, and obese. Before and after ice water ingestion, BP and HRV parameters were recorded and compared between the groups. Statistically data were analyzed by Student’s paired t-test and one-way analysis of variance. Results Basal HF was significant (p<0.05) in all three groups after ice water ingestion [F(2, 27), 44.1; p-value, 0.02]. After ice water ingestion, all HRV values were significant (p<0.001) in the three groups. The post-hoc Tukey HSD test demonstrated the less mean score for mean RR interval, standard deviation of all NN interval, standard deviation of differences between adjacent, HF and high for HR, LF, and LHR in overweight and obese subjects. Conclusions Because of the effective buffering system, healthy subjects showed increased HR and unchanged BP. Overweight and obese subjects showed decreased HR and increased BP.

Background: Several studies have demonstrated an association between obesity and migraine. It’s still unclear whether migraine is the cause or it's the result of obesity. Objective: We investigated the prevalence of migraine among obese and non-obese individuals and analyzed the relationship between migraine prevalence and obesity. Patients and Methods: This is cross-sectional observational study was carried out at the neurology outpatients’ department of the Rizgary Teaching Hospital in Erbil, Iraq, from July 1st , 2018 to September 30, 2019. We interviewed and examined 300 persons, both obese (n=154) and non-obese (n=146), and of both gender. All of them were adults (>18 years old). Each person's weight, height, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference were measured.The diagnosis of migraine was made according to the International Headache Society’s criteria. Obesity was present if the individual’s BMI is ≥30 and/or waist-to-hip ratio is >0.9 in females and >1.0 in males. Results: Out of the 300 persons, 14 males (8.5%) got migraines while migraine was found in 37 females (27.4%), irrespective of their weight. Out of the 300 persons, the prevalence of migraine among obese individuals was 21.4% (n=33) and while in non-obese individuals was 12.3% (n=18). There was a statistically significant difference between the groups (p-value=0.045). The overall prevalence of migraine was 16.9% of the persons interviewed. Conclusion: The results showed that migraine is more prevalent among obese persons than non-obese persons and the difference was statistically significant. Playing online games is a favorite activity for adolescents to fill their free time. This habit affects the occurrence of addiction if done for a long time. In addition, the long duration of play leads to sedentary lifestyle behaviors, which contribute to overweight among adolescents. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between online gaming addiction and being overweight among adolescents in Jember district. The cross-sectional study design was conducted among 162 overweight students from 16 senior high schools in Jember with stratified random sampling. The development of the Indonesian online game addiction questionnaire is used to assess online game addiction, weight scales, and stature meters are used to measure body mass index (overweight). The Spearman Rank test was performed to answer the objective of this study. The results of this study indicate that body mass index in 162 adolescents is overweight (Median=1,44; Standard Deviation=0,26) which indicates obesity. Adolescents who were identified as having addiction in the study were (27,2%) and mild addictions were (72,8%). There was a significant relationship between online game addiction and overweight (r=0.212 ; p-value = 0.007). The sedentary lifestyle of online game addiction contributes to the occurrence of overweight among adolescents. Therefore, regular physical activity patterns need to be applied to reduce sedentary lifestyle and overweight problems among adolescents.ABSTRAKBermain game online menjadi kegiatan favorit bagi remaja untuk mengisi waktu luang. Kebiasaan ini berdampak pada terjadinya kecanduan jika dilakukan dalam waktu yang lama. Selain itu, durasi bermain yang cukup lama mengarah pada perilaku gaya hidup yang menetap, yang berkontribusi pada terjadinya kelebihan berat badan di kalangan remaja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi hubungan antara kecanduan game online dan kelebihan berat badan di kalangan remaja di Kabupaten Jember. Desain penelitian cross sectional dilakukan di antara 162 siswa yang kelebihan berat badan dari 16 SMA di Jember dengan stratified random sampling. Kuesioner The development of Indonesian online game addiction questionnaire digunakan untuk menilai kecanduan game online, timbangan berat badan dan stature meter digunakan untuk mengukur indeks massa tubuh (kegemukan). Analisis uji menggunakan uji spearman rank untuk menjawab tujuan penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa indeks massa tubuh pada 162 remaja adalah (M = 1,44; SD = 0,26) didapatkan median >1 untuk Z score antropometri yang mengindikasikan kegemukan. Remaja yang diidentifikasi mengalami kecanduan pada penelitian adalah (27,2%) dan kecanduan ringan adalah (72,8%). Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kecanduan game online dan kegemukan (r = 0,212; p value = 0,007). Gaya hidup menetap dari kecanduan game online berkontribusi terhadap terjadinya kegemukan di kalangan remaja. Oleh karena itu, perlu diterapkan pola aktivitas fisik secara teratur untuk mengurangi gaya hidup yang menetap dan masalah kelebihan berat badan di kalangan remaja. AbstractBackgroundChildren with congenital cardiac disease experience challenges in developing healthy patterns of physical activity due to decreased exercise capacity and parental fear and confusion about what is permissible. The purpose of this study was to describe physical activity habits in children 10–14 years of age with congenital cardiac disease and the relationship of those habits to obesity as defined by body mass index.MethodsThis cross-sectional study used self-report measures and clinical data to describe the association between physical activity participation and body mass index in 10- to 14-year-old children with congenital cardiac disease. Further, physical activity levels were compared between children who were overweight or obese and those who were not.ResultsChildren (n = 84; 51 males; 33 females) reported low rates of physical activity compared to reports on healthy children. Only 9.5% were overweight (body mass index between the 85th and 94th percentile), and alarmingly 26% were obese (body mass index at or above the 95th percentile). Physical activity and body mass index were not significantly correlated (r = −0.11, p = 0.45) and there was no significant difference in mean physical activity (t = 0.67) between children who were overweight or obese and those who were not.ConclusionsChildren in this study reported low rates of physical activity and a higher obesity rate than was reported in previous studies. However, the two were not significantly correlated. Further research is indicated to determine the specific factors contributing to obesity and to test interventions to combat obesity in children with congenital cardiac disease.

Introduction: Tibial slope angles (TSAs) have been identified as potential risk factors of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the literature. A higher body mass index (BMI) might increase the risk of ACL tear because of greater axial compressive force. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of these factors and the combined effect of BMI and TSA in determination of risk potential for ACL injury. Methods: The preoperative magnetic resonance (MR) images of 81 ACL-injured male knees and of 68 male individuals with no ACL injuries were evaluated by 2 radiologists to measure the TSA. The Mann-Whitney U-test was performed to indicate the significant difference in height, weight, and BMI values. The independent samples t-test was used to determine the differences between ACL-injured and non-injured groups regarding TSA values. Odds ratios were calculated by logistic regression tests, and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves revealed the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) values to compare the relationships of these parameters with ACL injury. Results: Body mass index, lateral tibial slope (LTS), and medial tibial slope (MTS) were predictive of ACL risk injury. Body mass index alone had the greatest effect among these parameters, and there were no statistically significant differences in coronal tibial slope values between the ACL-ruptured and control groups. The greatest AUC was observed for the combination of BMI, MTS, and LTS. Conclusions: Body mass index, LTS, and MTS angles were associated with ACL injury risk and BMI + MTS + LTS together revealed the greatest effect on ACL injury.

Introduction: Acne vulgaris is a common and chronic inflammatory skin disease of pilosebaceous unit. Obesity is one of the biggest problems in western life style but nowadays, the problem is increasing even in low and middle-income countries. Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to accurately measure obesity.Objective: To find out the association between different categories of BMI and severity of acne.Materials and methods: This was a cross sectional prospective study conducted in the outpatient department of Gandaki Medical College from January to July, 2017. All the newly diagnosed patients with acne were included in the study. Height and weight of the patients was recorded and BMI was calculated. BMI was categorized as underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese. Type of lesions were noted and severity of acne was graded from 1 to 4.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 17.0 for windows. One-way Analysis of Variance between groups (ANOVA) test was applied. P value of less than 0.05 was considered significant.Results: There were altogether 249 patients with acne. Age of the patients ranged from 10 to 44 years with mean age of 20.82 ±5.9 years. Most of the patients were in the age group of 11-20 years. Female: male ratio was 1:1.4. Majority of patients (65.5%) had normal BMI. Most of the patients had Grade 2 acne (52.6%). There was no significant association between the BMI and severity of acne (p=0.129).Conclusion: There was no significant association between BMI and severity of acne.
