This study discusses about Elio’s homosexuality in Andr? Aciman’s Call Me by Your Name. Elio is the main character in the novel. The study aims to answer three points: the cause of Elio’s homosexuality, the effect of Elio’s homosexuality and how homosexuality presented in the novel. The study uses qualitative research because it provides understanding into the problem and it derives meanings from the quotations. This study applies intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The extrinsic approach used is psychological approach as the literary approach. The psychological approach is applied in causes and effects of homosexuality as a psychological issue. The data source of this study is Call Me by Your Name novel by Andr? Aciman. The study found that Elio’s homosexuality is caused by Elio’s hormone and Elio’s family life. Elio’s desire and lust brings him to the wild imagination and fantasy. Elio’s parents are open-minded. It can be concluded that from the causes of Elio’s homosexuality brings him to the taboo thing and not every people can accept that sexual orientation. The novelist, Andr? Aciman wants to presented about the true feeling of the taboo love.

AbstrakPenelitian terhadap novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kesantunan tindak tutur menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data penelitian ini adalah tindak tutur direktif menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara membaca dan memahami novel, mencatat kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat tokoh yang dapat dirumuskan sebagai bagian dari tuturan maupun tindak tutur menyuruh, dan menginventarisasikan data berdasarkan masalah-masalah tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data dianalisis dan dibahas berdasarkan teori pragmatik. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan sembilan tuturan tindak tutur direktif menyuruh, yang menunjukkan bahwa tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye cenderung melakukan tindak tutur menyuruh secara santun. Strategi bertutur tokoh utama dalam novel cenderung menggunakan tindak menyuruh kepada adik-adiknya. Kata kunci: tindak tutur direktif menyuruh, pragmatik, novel, Bidadari-Bidadari Surga AbstractThis research on the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye aims to explain the politeness of the speech acts of the protagonist in Tere Liye's novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The data source in this research is the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye. The data of this research are directive speech acts ordered to the protagonist in the novel. Data were collected by understanding the novel, noting down words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that can be formulated as part of speech acts, and making an inventory of the data based on the problems of directive speech acts contained in Tere Liye's novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga. Data were analyzed and based on pragmatic theory. The results of this study shows nine directive ordered speech act utterances, which indicate that the protagonist in the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye tends to perform speech acts politely. This thesis discusses the novel by American author Stephanie Meyer entitled New Moon. This novel published by Little Brown and Company on September 2006 and this novel consists of 563 pages. This novel tells about the rarely love between human, vampire and ware wolf in Forks. This thesis focused on the Personality of Jacob Blacks influence his people around him especially his lover by his imprint as seen in New Moon Novel ByStephenie Meyer through Psychological approach. Meanwhile, too see Jacob’s character by personality theory as the main character of the novel, two question are formulated to guide or lead the analysis. Therefore there are two purposes of this research. First, to find out the characteristics of Jacob Black described in New moon novel by Stephanie Meyer. Finally, to know and explain Jacob’s personality by psychology approach.The method applied in this study is Qualitative research. The approach used in this study is psychology approach. The sources of data that are needed to support this study are taken from the novel new moon. Then the source contains the theories of literature, personality and another in terms of books and internet. Based on the result of the analysis, the answer to both questions is as follows. Firstly, Jacob Black’s characteristics are smart, brave, loving and friendly. This research purposes at describing the roles of semantic study precisely the roles of agent and experiencer in Pudarnya Pesona Cleopatra novel written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. The research conducted by the writer is qualitative research. The data of this study are agent and experiencer roles that the data source is taken from Pudarnya Pesona Cleopatra novel written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy published in 2003. The method that is used by the writer to collect the data is documentation with the steps: (1) figure out the sentences that contain agent and experiencer in that novel, (2) classify the types of sentences by investigating the novel. In analyzing data, the writer used Saeed’s theory of participant roles for the major theory. The result of this study shows that there are seventeen patterns that are classified into two roles. They are ten sentences of the agent and seven sentences of the experiencer.Keywords: Semantic, Participant Roles, Agent, Experiencer

This study is about an analysis of Santiago's way to find happiness in Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. Psychological approach and the help of psychological theory that are used in this study to identify the reasons of Santiago's strife to pursue happiness through his journey to Egypt. From the novel, Santiago's family life background is the main reason of his strife to find happiness. The result of the study, researcher finds some indicators of happiness according to Selingma's PERMA in Santiago's journey. Santiago meets relationship, meaning and accomplishments in the end of the journey. He meets the girl, Fatima, as the love of his life. He also finds the meaning of his life, which is to live without any regrets. then, he finally finds the hidden treasure as his dream. The three indicators help Santiago to be happier than before. From the analysis, it can be found that the reason why Santiago feels happier in life is because he never stops encouraging himself with the faith of his dream, the faith of his own destiny, and the faith of his mission in life.

This paper aims to describe the female characters in the novel Kabar Bunga by Marsiraji Thahir, the conflicts and its causes, and the impact of the conflicts experienced by women in the novel Kabar Bunga by Marsiraji Thahir. This novel is examined by a psychological approach in literature, a literary approach that emphasizes the psychological aspects of the types and laws of psychology that can be applied to literary works. The data is qualitative since the purpose of this research is to explain or describe the phenomena of the researches deeply. The data were obtained by categorizing all the related dialogues in the story, then psychologically analyzed. Triangulation was used to validate the data.  After finishing all the steps of analyzing data, the interpretations were made based on the data and the theory. The results of the research were, psychologically, the main character in this novel is described as a person who often feels worried, frightened, keeping the reality up, and she is burdened by the problems faced. This portrayal is the representation of Wulan as a woman and woman emotionally and mentally is depicted as a weakness persona without having the ability to solve the problems.

This research was motivated by the problem of being able to find the values of character education in the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The purpose of this study is to describe the values of character education in the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. This research is a qualitative research using content analysis method. The object of this research is the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The data in this study are words, phrases, sentences and discourses which are the values of character education. The data source in this research is the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The data techniques used are reading novels, marking data related to the value of character education, recording data, making inventory, and classifying. The results of this study indicate that there are ten values of character education found in the novel Gunung Ungaran. In addition to the value of character education, other character education values are also found, such as: 1) religious, 2) Tolerance, 3) Work hard, 4) Independent, 5) Curiosity, 6) Love the homeland, 7) Friendly/communicative, 8) Caring for the environment, 9) Social care, 10) Responsibility.Keywords: Education, Character, Novel.

This study aims to reveal the character of one of the main characters, Honami in the Holy Mother novel. The data source in this study is the Holy Mother novel wrote by Japanese author Akiyoshi Rikako,which has been published in Indonesia in 2016. The technique used for data collection in this study is library techniques. The method usedin conducting this research was the psychoanalysis method which was first put forward by Sigmund Freud. The results showed that based on psychoanalytic studies, the main character of the novel,a woman namedHonami, showed that the Id aspectinfluences all of herthoughts and actions. This was triggered by various events, namely herown misfortune which had many miscarriages and had a disease that made it difficult for herto get pregnant, and Kaoru's existence that changed herlife to became more meaningful. The emergence of fear and concern for her daughter because of the successive killings that struck a small child in the city where she lived, making her falsify and obscure the fact that Makoto, wascommitted murder to protect her daughter. The results also showed thatthe personality of the main character, Honami, is dominated by an element of the Egopersonality that defeats the Superego.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mendeskripsikan insting perilaku purposif tokoh dalam konteks keputusan menjadi seorang caleg, (2) mendeskripsikan dampak insting perilaku purposif tokoh terhadap diri tokoh mengambil keputusan novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan penelitian ini teori psikologi sastra insting purposif McDougall. Sumber data secara eksplisit berupa dokumen, yaitu novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini terbitan tahun 2015. Data penelitian berupa kalimat atau dialog, satuan cerita yang mengarah pada insting perilaku purposif yang dilakukan tokoh. Pemerolehan data menggunakan teknik membaca dan mencatat informasi terkait insting kutipan novel. Hasil penelitian dalam novel Namaku Subardj menunjukkan:  (1) bentuk perilaku insting purposif tokoh utama berupa insting menyelamatkan diri, insting penasaran, insting berkontruksi, insting penuntutan, dan insting tertawa dan (2) dampak perilaku dalam pengambilan keputusan, yakni insting perubahan perilaku purposif tokoh dengan lebih meningkatkan kualitas diri melalui literasi untuk menjadi caleg. Kata Kunci: insting, perilaku, psikologi, purposif   AbstractThe research aims to (1) describe the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the context of the decision to become a legislative candidate, (2) describe the impact of the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini. The method used descriptive qualitative. The theory used research is McDougall’s purposive instinct pschology theory. The data source is explicity, the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini published in 2015. The data of this research is in the form of sentence or dialogue, a story unit that leads to the character’s. The results of the research can be understood Namaku Subarjo’s Novel, (1) The form of purposive instinct behavior in the main character is the instict to save oneself, The curios instinct, the construct instict, the instict for prosecution and the laugh instinct, and (2) The impact of behavior in decision making is the instinct for purposive behavior. This study aims to determine the psychological impact experienced by Alex Standall on the death of Hannah Baker, presented in the Thirteen Reasons Why series adaptation of the novel of the same title by Jay Asher. This study is a qualitative research. The data source used is the TV-series Thirteen Reasons Why first season. The data collection technique is from analyzing the series. The theory used in this study is the psychology of literature. The results of this study are as follows: first, the initial factors that triggered Alex Standall to do bad things to Hannah Baker. Second, the psychological condition of Alex Standall after making a mistake about Hannah Baker. Third, the guilty towards Hannah Baker that caused Alex Standall finally decided to end his life.

This research aims at finding the types of swearing expressions and linguistic forms of English swearing used in Richard Wright’s Black Boy. This is a descriptive qualitative research since it describes the phenomena of swearing used in the novel. The data of the research are all the conversations or sentences used swearing in the novel written by Richard Wright namely Black Boy as the main data source. The method of collecting data in this research is observation and teknik lanjut catat. After all the data had been collected then they are coded using the coding system such as data number/title of novel/chapter/page/data. There is no data reduction since all the data are analyzed in this research. This research used theory triangulation. Kind of swearing expressions found in this novel dealing with God and religion terms, name of  animals and plants, part of body, racial terms, stupidity terms, name of occupation, sexual terms, family terms. The linguistic forms of English swearing used in this novel are word, phrase, and clause. The swearing in the form of words consists of (1) noun referring to place, person, occupation, animal, and idea (2) verb and (3) adjective. Phrase consists of (1) noun phrase with swearing functioning as headword, modifier, and both headword and modifier, (2) adjective phrase with swearing functioning as modifier. Swearing expression is also found in the form of sentence.
