This research purposes at describing the roles of semantic study precisely the roles of agent and experiencer in Pudarnya Pesona Cleopatra novel written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. The research conducted by the writer is qualitative research. The data of this study are agent and experiencer roles that the data source is taken from Pudarnya Pesona Cleopatra novel written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy published in 2003. The method that is used by the writer to collect the data is documentation with the steps: (1) figure out the sentences that contain agent and experiencer in that novel, (2) classify the types of sentences by investigating the novel. In analyzing data, the writer used Saeed’s theory of participant roles for the major theory. The result of this study shows that there are seventeen patterns that are classified into two roles. They are ten sentences of the agent and seven sentences of the experiencer.Keywords: Semantic, Participant Roles, Agent, Experiencer

This research was motivated by the problem of being able to find the values of character education in the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The purpose of this study is to describe the values of character education in the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. This research is a qualitative research using content analysis method. The object of this research is the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The data in this study are words, phrases, sentences and discourses which are the values of character education. The data source in this research is the novel Gunung Ungaran by Nh. Dini. The data techniques used are reading novels, marking data related to the value of character education, recording data, making inventory, and classifying. The results of this study indicate that there are ten values of character education found in the novel Gunung Ungaran. In addition to the value of character education, other character education values are also found, such as: 1) religious, 2) Tolerance, 3) Work hard, 4) Independent, 5) Curiosity, 6) Love the homeland, 7) Friendly/communicative, 8) Caring for the environment, 9) Social care, 10) Responsibility.Keywords: Education, Character, Novel.

This study aims to determine the psychological impact experienced by Alex Standall on the death of Hannah Baker, presented in the Thirteen Reasons Why series adaptation of the novel of the same title by Jay Asher. This study is a qualitative research. The data source used is the TV-series Thirteen Reasons Why first season. The data collection technique is from analyzing the series. The theory used in this study is the psychology of literature. The results of this study are as follows: first, the initial factors that triggered Alex Standall to do bad things to Hannah Baker. Second, the psychological condition of Alex Standall after making a mistake about Hannah Baker. Third, the guilty towards Hannah Baker that caused Alex Standall finally decided to end his life.

This research aims at finding the types of swearing expressions and linguistic forms of English swearing used in Richard Wright’s Black Boy. This is a descriptive qualitative research since it describes the phenomena of swearing used in the novel. The data of the research are all the conversations or sentences used swearing in the novel written by Richard Wright namely Black Boy as the main data source. The method of collecting data in this research is observation and teknik lanjut catat. After all the data had been collected then they are coded using the coding system such as data number/title of novel/chapter/page/data. There is no data reduction since all the data are analyzed in this research. This research used theory triangulation. Kind of swearing expressions found in this novel dealing with God and religion terms, name of  animals and plants, part of body, racial terms, stupidity terms, name of occupation, sexual terms, family terms. The linguistic forms of English swearing used in this novel are word, phrase, and clause. The swearing in the form of words consists of (1) noun referring to place, person, occupation, animal, and idea (2) verb and (3) adjective. Phrase consists of (1) noun phrase with swearing functioning as headword, modifier, and both headword and modifier, (2) adjective phrase with swearing functioning as modifier. Swearing expression is also found in the form of sentence.

ABSTRAK:� Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk konflik batin tokoh Pak Fauzan dan Pak Iskandar� dalam novel �Kambing dan Hujan� karya Mahfud Ikhwan. Masalah pada penelitian ini adalah� adanya konflik batin yang terjadi pada tokoh Pak Fauzan dan Pak Iskandar. Konflik batin tersebut mengakibatkan gangguan psikologis pada kedua tokoh tersebut. Untuk mengupas hal tersebut digunakan teori psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud. Teori psikoanalisis digunakan sebagai pembedah konflik batin yang terjadi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif. Sumber data yang digunakan yaitu novel �Kambing dan Hujan�, sedangkan data yang digunakan berupa dialog dan narasi dalam novel. Hasil penelitian ini berupa konflik batin antara lain:� (1) Adanya pertentangan yang tidak sesuai keinginan. (2) Harapan yang tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan. (3) Kecemasan dalam menghadapi masalah.KATA KUNCI:� Konflik Batin , Psikoanalisis, Bentuk Konflik Batin.��ABSTRACT: This study aims to determine the form of inner conflict between Pak Fauzan and Pak Iskandar in the novel "Goat and Rain" by Mahfud Ikhwan. The problem in this study is that there was an inner conflict that occurred in the figures of Pak Fauzan and Pak Iskandar. The inner conflict resulted in a psychological disturbance on the two figures. To explore this point, Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory was used. Psychoanalytic theory is used as a dissection of inner conflicts that occur. This research is a qualitative research. The data source used is the novel "Goat and Rain", while the data used is in the form of dialogue and narration in the novel. The results of this study are in the form of inner conflicts, among others: (1) There are conflicts that are not as desired. (2) Expectations that are not in accordance with reality. AbstrakPenelitian terhadap novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kesantunan tindak tutur menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data penelitian ini adalah tindak tutur direktif menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara membaca dan memahami novel, mencatat kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat tokoh yang dapat dirumuskan sebagai bagian dari tuturan maupun tindak tutur menyuruh, dan menginventarisasikan data berdasarkan masalah-masalah tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data dianalisis dan dibahas berdasarkan teori pragmatik. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan sembilan tuturan tindak tutur direktif menyuruh, yang menunjukkan bahwa tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye cenderung melakukan tindak tutur menyuruh secara santun. Strategi bertutur tokoh utama dalam novel cenderung menggunakan tindak menyuruh kepada adik-adiknya. Kata kunci: tindak tutur direktif menyuruh, pragmatik, novel, Bidadari-Bidadari Surga AbstractThis research on the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye aims to explain the politeness of the speech acts of the protagonist in Tere Liye's novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The data source in this research is the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye. The data of this research are directive speech acts ordered to the protagonist in the novel. Data were collected by understanding the novel, noting down words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that can be formulated as part of speech acts, and making an inventory of the data based on the problems of directive speech acts contained in Tere Liye's novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga. Data were analyzed and based on pragmatic theory. The results of this study shows nine directive ordered speech act utterances, which indicate that the protagonist in the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye tends to perform speech acts politely. The strategy of telling the main character in the novel tends to use commands to order his younger siblings. Keywords: directive speech act ordered, pragmatic, novel, Bidadari-Bidadari Surga

The aim of this research was to analyze the character of Miles Halter and the influences of the other characters towards Miles�s character in Looking for Alaska novel. The primary data source was transcribed from Looking for Alaska Novel directed by John Green (2005). Here, the researcher applied a descriptive qualitative research design based on theories of Roberts and Freud. To know how Miles�s character presented in the novel, the researcher used several ways such as from what Miles does and says and from what the other characters says about Miles. As result, the reseracher found that Miles�s characters were nice, independent, diligent, hard worker, naughty, curious, smart, and unique. Besides, the reseracher also found the influences from the other characters such as habitual in reading, smoking, drinking, and pranking.Keywords: Young� adult literarure, Novel and Character

This research is motivated by the existence of several styles of comparative attitude contained in the novel by Okky Madasari. This research is focused on the comparative language style in the novel by Okky Madasari. The purpose of this study is to describe the comparative language style in the novel by Okky Madasari. This type of research is qualitative research. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method. The data in this study are in the form of words, sentences and dialogues related to describing the comparative language style in the novel by Okky Madasari. The data source in this research is the novel by Okky Madasari. The results of this study indicate that the comparative language styles contained in the novel by Okky Madasari are, parable comparison language style, metaphor comparison language style, personification comparison language style, allagory comparison language style, and pleonasm comparison language style. The language style that is most often found is the comparative language style of parable types, and from the research results it is known that of the 10 types of language language there are only 5 types of comparative language styles found.

The background of this study begins from people who rarely use monoligual language (one language). But in daily life, there are still many people who use two languages (bilingualism). People who use local languages and Indonesian language for example. The purpose of this study is to describe bilingualism in novels as a sociolinguistic study that examines language in assessment with the user community. This research is used to provide information to readers about the bilingualism in Gadis Pantai (The Girl from the Coast) by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. This study uses qualitative research with content analysis methods. The data source used in this study is primary data in the form of novel as the main data source. Secondary data of this study are reference books that support the study conducted by researchers. This research is useful for studying bilingualism in Gadis Pantai by Pramoedya Ananta. From the results of the study and discussion it can be concluded that Gadis Pantai by Pramoedya Ananta Toer contains 25 sentences in bilingualism. Bilingualism that is found is between Javanese language and Indonesian language but indonesian dominated. Bilingualism is not only found directly in the communication of the language community but also can be found in literary works. This type of literary work can be in the form of a novel. Bilingualism in novels is found in conversations between characters in the novel.

English is used as a foreign language in some countries since it is one of international languages. In Indonesia, English is not the mother tongue of the majority of occupants, so the translation is needed to solve the communication problem between two different languages. This research entitled “The Translatability of Compound Words in The Hunger Games in English and Indonesian Versions” is intended to find out the English compound words equivalently translatable into Indonesian found in the novel and to describe the causes of the non-equivalent translation.This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research as the research design. The research object of this research is compound and the data of this research is the compound words of English language and Indonesian language. As for the data source, The Hunger Games novel is used as the data source of the research. In collecting the data, the researcher uses observing method. In observing method, the researcher reads, underlines, and transcribes the compound words of English and Indonesian language found in the novel. In data analysis, the researcher identifies the data based on English language and Indonesian language compound words.The analysis of the research shows that there are English compound words that can be equivalently translatable into Indonesian and some cannot. The non-equivalent translation of the compounds has the highest frequency that is 29 cases. It happens because the translator translated the English compound words into words and phrases. The frequency of equivalent translation is 21 cases in which the translator translated the English compound words into Indonesian compound. As for the causes, there are some factors triggering the inability to translate equivalently and one of the most influencing ones is cultural aspect.
