The process of solving problems carried out by students in stages, namely understanding problems, planning solutions, carrying out solutions and checking again. Solving student problems varies according to the basic characteristics of students' interests, talents and potential. Learning will be more optimal if it is adjusted to the intelligence possessed by students. The goal is that teachers can facilitate learning according to the intelligence possessed by students, so the teacher must know the intelligence possessed by students. This research is a qualitative study using two subjects, namely the subject of linguistics and the subject of mathematical logic. The results showed that at the problem-understanding stage, SLM completed using formulas, completed according to plan and checked by recalculating. SL uses more trial-and-error reasoning, understanding information by reading sentences quickly as well as checking again.

AbstractResearch on mathematical problem solving has a long tradition: retracing its fascinating story sheds light on its intricacies and, therefore, on its needs. When we analyze this impressive literature, a critical issue emerges clearly, namely, the presence of words and expressions having many and sometimes opposite meanings. Significant examples are the terms ‘realistic’ and ‘modeling’ associated with word problems in school. Understanding how these terms are used is important in research, because this issue relates to the design of several studies and to the interpretation of a large number of phenomena, such as the well-known phenomenon of students’ suspension of sense making when they solve mathematical problems. In order to deepen our understanding of this phenomenon, we describe a large empirical and qualitative study focused on the effects of variations in the presentation (text, picture, format) of word problems on students’ approaches to these problems. The results of our study show that the phenomenon of suspension of sense making is more precisely a phenomenon of activation of alternative kinds of sense making: the different kinds of active sense making appear to be strongly affected by the presentation of the word problem.

This study aims to describe students' mathematical problem-solving abilities based on mathematical dispositions at Riyadlul Mukhlishien Middle School. This type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects used were 21 students of class VIII A. The data sources of this research are in the form of questionnaires, test descriptions and interviews. The results of the questionnaire were used to classify the level of students' mathematical dispositions. After that, two students from each category of mathematical disposition were selected to be the subject of tests and interviews. The results of tests and interviews of mathematical problem-solving abilities were analyzed based on the mathematical disposition of the students. The results of this study indicate that the mathematical disposition of SMP Riyadlul Mukhlishien students is divided into three categories, high, medium and low. Students who have mathematical problem-solving abilities in the high mathematical disposition category are able to meet the indicators of mathematical problem-solving abilities well and write them down completely. Students who have mathematical problem-solving abilities in the moderate mathematical disposition category are able to meet the indicators of mathematical problem-solving abilities but do not write them down completely. Students who have mathematical problem-solving abilities in the low mathematical disposition category are less able to meet the indicators of mathematical problem-solving abilities because they do not write them down completely and still experience errors in calculations
