Speech anxiety becomes one of the obstacles for the students to enhance their speaking competence. The students felt afraid of speaking in public because the students were apprehansion to make mistakes, gain negative evaluation and less preparation in giving speech. Thus, this study was designed to know students’ perception toward the implementation of speech training in improving students’ speaking competence and reducing speech anxiety. This study used descriptive qualitative. The population of this study is fourth semester students in academic year of 2015/2016 of English Department in one of the private universities at Kendari. The number of the students was 38. The instruments of this study were anxiety test, observation checklist, interview guideline and note taking. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings of this study were the students had positive response or attitude to the implementation of Speech Training. Based on the interview and observation guideline, the students were enthusiastic in joining speech training and they feel better in giving speech in front of many people. Besides, most of the students weren't anxious anymore, even though some students were still awkward in giving speech. Thus, the students assume that speech training could alleviate their speech anxiety and improve their speaking competence.

This study was designed to investigate whether Speech Training with Systematic Desensitization could improve the students’ speaking competence or not. This study used an experimental design. The population of this study was all fourth semester students in the English Department in one of Universities in Kendari of academic year 2015/2016. The instruments of this study were speech test, observation checklist, interview guidline and note taking. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The finding of this study was mean score of Speech Training with Systematic Desensitization Technique was 67.36 for pretest and 79.80 for posttest. It indicated that the students’ speaking competence got improvement because the increasing of mean score of speech test from pretest to posttest. Thus, Speech Training with Systematic Desensitization Technique could increase the students’ speaking competence. Keywords- Speech training, Systemathic Desensitization, speaking competence.

The purpose of this research to describe the types of ilocutionary act that the Indonesian language teacher use in giving fable story lesson towards students class VII SMP Negeri 11 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2017/2018. This research is descriptive qualitative. The technique of collecting data is observation, recording, and note-taking. The data then is analyzed by using pragmatic analysis. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be found that there 4 types of ilocutionary act that is used by the Indonesian language teacher, they are (1) directive, (2) declarative, (3) insertive, (4) expressive. The functions of teacher’s ilocutionary act is really important to the students in learning process. In addition, it is recommended to the teacher to improve their expressive utterance in order to increase studeents willinngness in learning and to reduce the use of directive utterance so that the students will not bored in studying the lesson.Key Word: ilocutionary, pragmatic

This study is aimed to know to find out the types of Socratic questions used by the students of seventh semester in English Department of  FKIP UHN Medan. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative where the subject is seventh English Department students in Nommensen University academic year 2019/2020 on Seminar Class and the data is students’questions. After analizing questions, it was found that Socratic questions used by the seventh semester of English students in FKIP UHN Medan are questions and clarification, questions that prope purposes, questions that probe assumptions, Question that Probe Information, Reason, Evidence, and Cause, Question about viewpoints or perspectives, Questions that Probe Implication and Consequences, Question about question, Question that Probe Concept, and Questions that probe Inferences and Interpretation.   The most dominant is Question that Probe Information, Reason, Evidence, and Cause. It means that the students’ ability in making questions in seminar on ELT presentation is still on the level of getting information from the text, less to have capacity to view or to judge things from some other perspectives, less of preparing themselves reading the seminar paper before the presentation starts. The writer assumed that the students lack of reading.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to find out the causes of pseudo mental model occurred on performing English speaking task ability. This research is conducted to the learners of English department in academic year 2018-2019. This research uses questionnaire as the only instrument. The questionnaire was distributed through WA group of learners English department. 38 learners got a questionnaire but only 28 learners who returned the questionnaire to the researcher. The questionnaire consists of 17 items. This research uses descriptive qualitative whereas the researcher analyzes and describes the questionnaire distributed and returned from learners of English department. Base on the data gained, the result shows that although learners have high motivation on learning English speaking subject, that is 96%, pseudo mental model (nervous, afraid, and less confident)on performing English speaking task ability still occurred. Besides that, it also occurs not only because of learners had problems in language component skills , that is 75%, though in fact in specific problems occurred 57% (problems are not similar) but also in mental model 67% though preparation is prepared well 92%, 78% before conducting and 71% during performing, and the frequency of “always “ being nervous, afraid and less confident is 64%. Moreover, 92% learners are trying to reduce of having pseudo mental model (afraid, nervous, lack confident).

This study was aimed at finding out “ Word Formation In Facebook Conversation; A Study At A Group Prodi English Department FKIP University Muhammadiyah of Mataram In Academic Year 2015-2016 ”. The method of this research is qualitative research was using case study, the participant of this research is a Group Prodi English Department FKIP University Muhammadiyah of Mataram, for five months from January to May the total was followed in Facebook conversation was three persons (teachers), and the whole of students were 20 persons. The instruments for collecting the data by using note taking. To analyze the data, the researcher classified word formation produced, and then the researcher analyzing the data. Based on this research it showed that there was 7words formation on facebook conversation in a Group Prodi English Department FKIP University Muhammadiyah of Mataram, consist of 1 Coinage, 5 of Blending, 5 of Clipping, 1 of Back- Formation, 7 of Reduplication, 1 of Compounding, 15 of Acronym. So the total word formation for all of the data was 35 data, which was used on a Facebook conversation in a Group Prodi English Department FKIP University Muhammadiyah of Mataram. The dominant type of word formation process that occurs on facebook conversation, in a Group Prodi English Department FKIP University Muhammadiyah of Mataram was Acronym, which is 15 data.

This study entitled An Analysis of Grammatical Errors Based on Facebook User at the Group of English Department Program at Muhammadiyah University of Mataram in the academic year 2015-2016. This research focused on the purpose of investigated kinds of grammatical error made by facebook user. The method used a descriptive qualitative method where the instrument employed to collect the data. The total number involved in the group of English Department UMM were 136 members who are consisted of 10 lectures and 126 students. As a result of this study, the researcher found out four kinds of errors were classified into Omission error, Addition error, Misformation error, and Misordering error. The highest rank of their error was Omission and Misformation error (16,4%), the second rank was Addition error (10,8%), the lowest rank was Misordering error (2,8%). These errors were mostly caused the members did not realize the errors of the language they have made.

<p>Hopscotch Game is one of the media in teaching speaking. It is purposed to help the students more interested in teaching-learning process. The objectives of this research are to describe: 1) the procedure of using hopscotch game in teaching speaking, 2) the advantages of using hopscotch game in teaching speaking, 3) the disadvantage of using hopscotch game in teaching speaking.</p><p> </p><p>This research was done at IKIP PGRI Madiun from September-December</p><p>2013. The subject of the study was the students of 1A of English Department of IKIP  PGRI  Madiun  consisting  of  30  students,  it  uses  descriptive  qualitative method for data analysis. The researcher did some steps such as pre activity, whilst activity, and post activity. In collecting the data, the researcher applied several techniques including observation, interview, and documentation.</p><p> </p><p>The result of the research shows that: 1) there are some procedures of using hopscotch, 2) hopscotch game makes students have fun in speaking class, and it can be a media to motivate students in the teaching-learning process. 3) the disadvantage of  hopscotch game is spending much time.</p><p> </p>Based on the result of this research, some suggestions are presented to the lecturer, and the students. The lecturer is expected to apply various kinds of approach or method such as hopscotch game in teaching speaking in order to make the teaching learning process more interesting and fun. The students are expected to practice speaking English actively without being afraid of making mistakes, because the lecturer will rectify and help them to be better in speaking English.

This study aims to describe symbolic form of sign used to describe the emotions of Pasutri Gaje comic characters. Theoretically, this study discusses tropes symbols as additional elements whose existence has a major influence on conveying the emotions of the characters to the readers. This is a descriptive qualitative study. Apply the theory of semiotics proposed by Ferdinand de Saussure about dichotomy signifie dan significant and Pierce about triadic feature of sign.  Datas sourced from picture of online comic Pasutri Gaje season 1 until episode 13 season 3. Datas is collected by observing method with recording and note-taking technique. Data were analysed by extralingual equivalent methods and comparative relational techniques. Data presented used formal and informal method.             There seven kind of emotions symbol called tropes symbol used in comic. There were cross popin for angry sign, sweat drops to clumsy sign, drool to show feeling tempted, chibi to show childish side, dog ear/tail to express innocence in expecting something, blush to express feeling embarrassed, and shadow over face to show extreme anger. Tropes symbols fulfills the element of signification in accordance with the concept proposed by Pierce hence it can convey the emotional situation of character to the readers.

This article aims to describe: the implementation of the SQ3R model to the ability to examine the characters contained in fiction texts in grade IV students of SDN Ganung Kidul 1 Nganjuk in the 2019/2020 Academic Year. This article is an descriptive qualitative research carried out through five stages, namely: (1) data collection; (2) determination of the sample; (3) recording data; (4) reduction; and (5) drawing conclusions. Data sources in this article are journals and books relating to the learning of the SQ3R model on learning to examine the characters contained in fiction texts. These data provide an overview of the application of the SQ3R model on the ability to examine the characters contained in fictional texts. Furthermore, the object of the research is the learning model SQ3R with a subject of 22 students. The conclusion of the article shows that: this SQ3R model is very good to be applied to the basic competencies of Indonesian language class IV semester II, namely the ability to examine the characters contained in fiction texts.
