ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to find out the causes of pseudo mental model occurred on performing English speaking task ability. This research is conducted to the learners of English department in academic year 2018-2019. This research uses questionnaire as the only instrument. The questionnaire was distributed through WA group of learners English department. 38 learners got a questionnaire but only 28 learners who returned the questionnaire to the researcher. The questionnaire consists of 17 items. This research uses descriptive qualitative whereas the researcher analyzes and describes the questionnaire distributed and returned from learners of English department. Base on the data gained, the result shows that although learners have high motivation on learning English speaking subject, that is 96%, pseudo mental model (nervous, afraid, and less confident)on performing English speaking task ability still occurred. Besides that, it also occurs not only because of learners had problems in language component skills , that is 75%, though in fact in specific problems occurred 57% (problems are not similar) but also in mental model 67% though preparation is prepared well 92%, 78% before conducting and 71% during performing, and the frequency of “always “ being nervous, afraid and less confident is 64%. Moreover, 92% learners are trying to reduce of having pseudo mental model (afraid, nervous, lack confident).

This research investigates both inside and outside of classroom activities to reveal the influence of English extracurricular in improving students’ English speaking ability in tertiary level. It is a response toward imbalance English speaking ability among students in English speaking classes reflected by their learning achievement. Students who belong to English extracurricular are indicated to have more significant progress to their English speaking ability compare to others who do not. Therefore, an attempt to explore further this phenomenon is necessary to do. The object of this research is all conversation classes for students from batch 2015 on academic year 2016/2017 at English department of Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia, in which some of them are the members of Teknokrat English Club as one of extracurricular activities in that university. In accordance, the researchers apply both qualitative and quantitative method in processing all data to gain comprehensive result of investigation. The data are gained by doing field observation and students’ learning achievement evaluation. While the objectives of this research are (a) assisting to solve problem and find out alternative to improve students’ ability communicating in English and (b) providing knowledge about the role of English extracurricular in supporting students to achieve the competence of English speaking ability in conversation class.

The aim of this research was to know perception of watching English movie on Youtube at the second semester the second semester of English department Islamic University of Kalimantan of the 2018/2019 academic year. The subject of this research is the students of class regular A. The instrument used in the data collection was a questionnaire that consist of two part, the first part to find out the students who ever watched English movie on Youtube and the second part to know students’ perception use of watching English movie on Youtube. The data were analyzed using statistical  and shown in tables of frequency.The finding showed that by watching English movie on Youtube English  movie has an influenced for those students in improving their English achievement, then  help them to learn new vocabulary and could be one of  the effective  media in learning English Achievement.  Keywords : learning english, English movie, Youtube

The general aims in this research are to find out the students perceptions in learning speaking through picture media at the eleventh grade students of MA Roudlotul Muta�alimin in academic year 2019/2020. Furthermore, the aims can particularly be formulated to know what students perceptions in learning speaking through picture media. This research was categorized as survey research with the descriptive quantitative approach. The subject of this research is the eleventh grade students of MA Roudlotul Muta�alimin in academic year 2019/2020 as the participants totally 18 students. The questionnare was used to collected the data about students perceptions in learning speaking through picture media. And documentation was used to collected a description of the school and respondent. And the result is the eleventh graders of MA Roudlotul Muta�alimin had high integrative motivation to develop English speaking. They also had a high expectation that picture media could help them develop their English speaking skill. They also �strongly agreed� and �agreed� that English speaking mastery will help them to be more confident and courageous in speaking English, express their idea and motivate themselves even reached more than 80%. The response more than 85% of them �strongly agreed� and �agreed� that their mastery of English speaking will able to motivate themself to improve their ability to speak in English and make it easier for them to talk about anything in English by using picture media. In addition, the teacher also has an interesting method in learning English and often to use picture media in learning English.

This study is aimed to know to find out the types of Socratic questions used by the students of seventh semester in English Department of  FKIP UHN Medan. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative where the subject is seventh English Department students in Nommensen University academic year 2019/2020 on Seminar Class and the data is students’questions. After analizing questions, it was found that Socratic questions used by the seventh semester of English students in FKIP UHN Medan are questions and clarification, questions that prope purposes, questions that probe assumptions, Question that Probe Information, Reason, Evidence, and Cause, Question about viewpoints or perspectives, Questions that Probe Implication and Consequences, Question about question, Question that Probe Concept, and Questions that probe Inferences and Interpretation.   The most dominant is Question that Probe Information, Reason, Evidence, and Cause. It means that the students’ ability in making questions in seminar on ELT presentation is still on the level of getting information from the text, less to have capacity to view or to judge things from some other perspectives, less of preparing themselves reading the seminar paper before the presentation starts. The writer assumed that the students lack of reading.

This study aims at seeing process freshmen of English Department students at Balitar Islamic University improve their English speaking proficiency implementing communicative approach as the teaching teachniques. This study implemented classroom action research, and was conducted for one semester in the academic year 2014/2015. Improvements were focused on fluency, accuracy and cohesiveness involving 26 subjects.  Conducted in two cycles that succesviley involved research procedures on planning, acting, observing, and reflection, this study revealed the following findings.  First,  speaking fluency of the learners increases from 65% in the first cycle into 85% in the second cycle.  Second, speaking accuracy improves from 68% in the first cycle into 88% in the second cycle.  Third, cohesiveness of uttarences imoproves from 70% in the first cycle into 86% in the sevond cycle.

Speech anxiety becomes one of the obstacles for the students to enhance their speaking competence. The students felt afraid of speaking in public because the students were apprehansion to make mistakes, gain negative evaluation and less preparation in giving speech. Thus, this study was designed to know students’ perception toward the implementation of speech training in improving students’ speaking competence and reducing speech anxiety. This study used descriptive qualitative. The population of this study is fourth semester students in academic year of 2015/2016 of English Department in one of the private universities at Kendari. The number of the students was 38. The instruments of this study were anxiety test, observation checklist, interview guideline and note taking. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings of this study were the students had positive response or attitude to the implementation of Speech Training. Based on the interview and observation guideline, the students were enthusiastic in joining speech training and they feel better in giving speech in front of many people. Besides, most of the students weren't anxious anymore, even though some students were still awkward in giving speech. Thus, the students assume that speech training could alleviate their speech anxiety and improve their speaking competence.

This study was aimed at investigating students’ perception of motivational teaching strategies in English as Foreign Language (EFL) classroom, specifically on what motivational teaching strategies do students consider important and what are their reasons of considering the strategies as important. This study was a descriptive qualitative study. The instruments employed were questionnaire and interview. Based on the findings, the motivational teaching strategies considered most important are: (1) establish good relationship with students; (2) teachers should bring humors into the classroom; (3) teachers should show their enthusiasm for teaching; (4) teachers should show students that they care about them; (5) teachers should give clear instruction about how to carry a task; (6) teachers should make sure that grades reflect students achievement and effort; (7) teachers should invite English-speaking foreigners to class; (8) teachers should use a short and interesting opening activity to start each class; (9) teachers should avoid social comparison and (10) teachers should be themselves in front of students. In addition, one of the common reasons of why students considered those motivational teaching strategies as important was because they believed that those strategies are able to boost their motivation in learning English if it is implemented by their teachers.

The emergence of the 4.0 era requires the world of education to adapt to technology. Practicing and learning English can take the advantage of the sophisticated technology, especially applications that can be downloaded from students' smart phone. Students acknowledge that English learning done in the classroom is easy for them to forget because it is rarely used in everyday life. Practices done in the classroom do not have enough time for all students to speak English, and students are less motivation to speak English outside the classroom. Integrating Instagram into the process of teaching English speaking is believed could motivate students to speak and increase their speaking ability. Various features on Instagram can help students in doing assignments. Tasks may be packaged attractively within the variety of videos based on a certain theme and uploaded to Instagram. This study aimed to determine students' perceptions related to the use of social media Instagram in learning English speaking. This descriptive study used forty-four students Communication Science in academic year 2019/2020 who took Bahasa Inggris Keahlian. To determine students' perceptions, researchers used questionnaire adopted from Dornyei, 2011. The results of the study showed a positive or good response on students' perceptions towards the use of Instagram in learning English Speaking. Furthermore, Instagram can be used as another medium in teaching speaking. This is strengthened by the increase in self-confidence, learning motivation, and student interest in speaking in English.

English speaking skills are very important to communicate in the world. Most of the people communicate with other people by using speaking skills. The difficult skill to master in learning English for Thai students is speaking skills, especially those who are learning English in Indonesia speaking skill seems to be the most difficult one to learn. Whereas, it is the most important skill that leads to effective communication between people. Speaking skill is considered as the most important means of communication. Although students still have problems with their English speaking skills. Thai students who study at the English department academic still get problems in speaking skills and it needs overcoming with their English problems. The main objective of this study is to know the problems of Thai students in mastering English speaking skills in the Islamic university of Lamongan (Indonesia).  Keywords: Thai Student, English speaking skill
