Prominent among the social developments that the web 2.0 has facilitated is digital social reading (DSR): on many platforms there are functionalities for creating book reviews, 'inline' commenting on book texts, online story writing (often in the form of fanfiction), informal book discussions, book vlogs, and more. In this article we argue that DSR offers unique possibilities for research into literature, reading, the impact of reading and literary communication. We also claim that in this context computational tools are especially relevant, making DSR a field particularly suitable for the application of Digital Humanities methods. We draw up an initial categorization of research aspects of DSR and briefly examine literature for each category. We distinguish between studies on DSR that use it as a lens to study wider processes of literary exchange as opposed to studies for which the DSR culture is a phenomenon interesting in its own right. Via seven examples of DSR research we discuss the chosen approaches and their connection to research questions in literary studies.

This introductory chapter explains how different research questions and methods can contribute to better understanding of contemporary fathers, fatherhood, and fathering. Given the enhanced methodological diversity and increased sophistication of methods across the social sciences, embracing qualitative and quantitative approaches, traditional (such as interviewing) and contemporary approaches (such as netnography and visual methods), and general ‘handbooks’ offering basic introductions to social research have limited use for advanced researchers and students. The book aims to link detailed concerns about conducting individual projects to wider methodological debates concerning the value of different forms and sources of data, the negotiation of research relationships, and the impact of research findings on participants, policy makers, employers, and a wider public.

Research can fall short of having societal impact due to traditions of the research enterprise as well as the perceptions of researchers about their appropriate role. What if researchers saw their work as part of a social movement to make change, and the research enterprise was designed to encourage that view and to facilitate relevance, rigor, activation of research, and a collaborative approach to address research questions aligned with a common goal? What would such a research enterprise look like? In this article, we describe the application of “network leadership strategies” to develop a “generative, social-impact network” to support the efforts of a nature-based learning research network to advance knowledge of the natural environment's impact on children's learning and educational outcomes. The activities and achievements of the nature-based learning research network are examined through the lens of network-building approaches aiming to create social impact. Though inspired by and grounded in these approaches, the reality is that certain constraints influenced our ability to function collaboratively as a generative, social-impact network and to fully realize the potential of this approach. We describe these challenges and offer recommendations for other researchers interested in enhancing the social impact of research.

The Impact

The objective of this study was to examine the impact of social network usage on science students’ academic achievements in Ondo State’s senior secondary schools. The study was also to find the extent to which students under investigation used the social network platforms and the frequencies of their visits. In order to achieve this, a structured questionnaire was designed and administered to students from the three senatorial districts that made up the state. A multistage; which involved simple random and purposive sampling approaches was used to select the sample for the study. 150 copies of the questionnaire were distributed; out of which, 148 (98.78%) copies were returned. For the study, four research questions and two research hypotheses were developed. The hypotheses were assessed using the student's - t statistic at 0.05 significant level; using SPSS version 20 while the research questions formulated were evaluated using frequency counts and percentages. The study revealed that Ondo State senior secondary school science students can efficiently use the social network platforms for academic activities with male students being more proficient than their female counterparts. The study also revealed that the usage of social networks has assisted students to improve their academic performance; irrespective of their classes. Besides, the study showed that Facebook was the most popular of all the social network platforms. To this end, the researcher recommended that teachers, parents, and guidance should monitor the activities of their wards on the social network sites so that they can use the platforms to benefit their lots. Teachers should also use the advantage of students’ exposure to social networking to change their teaching methods from traditional one to online teaching.

This study discussed about the Seblang rituals in the village of Olehsari which tells about the emergence of the Seblang ritual, the process of carrying out the Seblang ritual, and how the effects of the Seblang ritual on the social and cultural conditions of the village of Olehsari were affected. The purpose of this study was to find out in depth about the history and life of Seblang culture from 1990 to 2017 and how the impact of the Seblang ritual on the social and cultural conditions of the village of Olehsari. Moreover, this study had three research questions proposed, the answers of which were sought using the methodology of cultural history from Kuntowijoyo. The method used is also assisted by historical theories from Ida Bagus Sidemen. Based on the data analysis, it was concluded that the appearance of the Seblang ritual originated from a pagebluk that attacked the slopes of Mount Ijen, which resulted many disasters, sick people, and many failed crops. Since humans in ancient times, or traditional humans, believed in the existence of mystical things, the consider pagebluk is caused due to a lack of balance between nature and humans. For this reason, the Seblang ritual exist. It is through this intermediary of the Seblang ritual that the community of Olehsari hopes that the disaster will end in the village of Olehsari.

Social reading sites offer an opportunity to capture a segment of readers’ responses to literature, while data-driven analysis of these responses can provide new critical insight into how people ‘read’. Posts discussing an individual book on the social reading site, Goodreads , are referred to as ‘reviews’, and consist of summaries, opinions, quotes or some mixture of these. Computationally modelling these reviews allows one to discover the non-professional discussion space about a work, including an aggregated summary of the work’s plot, an implicit sequencing of various subplots and readers’ impressions of main characters. We develop a pipeline of interlocking computational tools to extract a representation of this reader-generated shared narrative model. Using a corpus of reviews of five popular novels, we discover readers’ distillation of the novels’ main storylines and their sequencing, as well as the readers’ varying impressions of characters in the novel. In so doing, we make three important contributions to the study of infinite-vocabulary networks: (i) an automatically derived narrative network that includes meta-actants; (ii) a sequencing algorithm, REV2SEQ, that generates a consensus sequence of events based on partial trajectories aggregated from reviews, and (iii) an ‘impressions’ algorithm, SENT2IMP, that provides multi-modal insight into readers’ opinions of characters.

This paper will be accomplished by describing and verifying the social responsibility of organizations in the state of the Republic of Kosovo to undertake the study of the impact and impact these organizations have on the Kosovo society and the population in general. This paper will show how individuals and society in general see social responsibility as current in Kosovo, including employment, environmental protection, unemployment reduction and many other activities that have a crucial impact on our country. Although the new approach in our country as an approach and activity requires rapid implementation because every organization in the global market is heading towards orientation in increasing social capacities and integrating activities that have a positive effect on the society in which the organization surrounds. In order to get closer to this, hypotheses will be discussed, starting from the main one and under hypotheses which are accompanied by research questions which will specify and detail how social responsibility is an indispensable act for an existence of an organization. Today, the management of large national and international organizations is oriented towards enhancing their interests as well as their society, because they are an obligation that must be met against socialization in general and at the same time it is necessary to undertake various actions which, apart from the operationalization of these actions have an effect on the organization and groups of individuals in general. So in this paper we will try to see the case of Kosovo which variables and factors are affecting and applying in our country either as a responsibility or as an effect they have an obligation by analyzing factors such as economic growth, employment, greening investments, environmental protection.
