Social media sources such as Reddit allow for a large public forum to share opinions and ideas. The discussions in these online communities often reflect events occurring around the world. These discussions can also be influenced and shaped by the participation of political figures online. Using Reddit's public API, comments were scraped in prominent policing related Subreddits during the week of George Floyd's death to understand how his death and Donald's Trump's response to the subsequent rioting influenced the tone of discussion.

Today's world is technology-driven. Technology has penetrated almost every sphere of human life. Digital marking is one of the technologies that have attracted people from different age groups all over the world with their advanced nature of applications and uses. Digital technology is at the forefront of transforming how governments operate around the world. Using Brunei's Information Department (InfoDept) as a case study, this chapter looks at how the agency has evolved from its inception in the 1950s to 2019 in its embrace of both old and new media to pursue its mission and objectives as a government-run media agency. The results demonstrate how new media, such as social media, can complement old media if done right. The case study on InfoDept contributes to the growing field of research related to the increased advancement, development, application, and impact of new technologies in bolstering the digital governance process. This chapter also provides strong evidence on how governments can improve its general governance process and unlock the digital dividend in the 21st century by incorporating new media into its public policy architectonic. Salient lessons for policymakers and practitioners on digital governance have also been presented in this chapter.

Facebook, the most popular social media (SM) platform has penetrated every nook and corner of the world. SM is now treated as the ‘fifth Estate’, other than legislative, executive, judiciary, and mainstream media. The power of SM as a critique is widely acknowledged. Establishments are finding it difficult to deal with it at times. Due to its ease of usage and relative anonymity, the general public finds it very convenient to put across their viewpoints, even if it’s against the establishment. Some establishments at times are at loggerheads with champions of freedom of speech including civil rights activists. SM has been used for propaganda, marketing, and awareness campaigns. In this paper, we are proposing to use this powerful tool towards social change. Through a case study, a detailed process is being proposed for using social media particularly Facebook as an an-ti-stereotyping tool. The response to an online survey, the outcome of opinion min-ing, and the enthusiastic response to our case study by the targeted audience validate our hypothesis that Facebook can be effectively utilized as an anti-stereotyping tool.

Suara Muhammadiyah merupakan majalah tertua di Indonesia, di bawah pengelolaan Muhammadiyah yang merupakan salah satu organisasi masyarakat terbesar di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui bagaimana Suara Muhammadiyah dapat beradaptasi dengan perubahan digital. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan wawancara dan observasi. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan bahwa era digital adalah salah satu tantangan yang harus dilewati oleh majalah tertua di Indonesia ini. Artikel ini menunjukkan bagaimana adaptasi yang dilakukan oleh Suara Muhammadiyah di era digital beserta dengan permasalahan yang dihadapi, terutama perubahan perilaku audiens.  Pada era digital Suara Muhammadiyah ada dua versi digital yaitu website dan majalah digital. Selain mengembangkan versi majalah digital dan website, Suara Muhammadiyah beradaptasi dengan selera audiens dengan membuat podcast serta secara aktif mengelola media sosial. Dengan manajemen media yang adaptif terhadap perubahan teknologi dan audiens, Suara Muhammadiyah bisa terus berkembang di masa yang akan datang.Suara Muhammadiyah is the oldest magazine in Indonesia, which is owned by one of the most prominent community organizations in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah. Suara Muhammadiyah always tries to develop and adapt to the transformation of the world. The research goal is to explore how Suara Muhammadicah adapts to the digital revolution. The research method was a case study. The research result showed that the digital era was a challenge that should be overcome by this Indonesian oldest magazine. This research showed how the adaptation performed by Suara Muhammadiyah in the digital era and the problems it faced, especially the change of audience behavior. In the digital era, Suara Muhammadiyah consisted of two versions, a website and digital magazine. In addition to those versions, Suara Muhammadiyah also created a podcast and actively managed social media to adapt to current audience preferences. By maximizing adaptive media management towards changes in technology and audiences, Suara Muhammadiyah can still exist in the future.

Around the world, pop consumers are increasingly accessing popular products through social media. Online fan groups of Korean popular music (K-pop) in Asia have dynamically and transculturally circulated their product through social media such as Facebook and Twitter. In October 2010, Super Junior, a K-pop idol boy band, was ranked as the number one worldwide trending topic on Twitter—ranking even higher than a sensational news story about trapped Chilean miners. Regional fans in Indonesia in particular have been identified as the source of a spike in tweets on this topic. Such a phenomenon illustrates how social media–empowered online fandom enhances cultural flow and affects transcultural pop circulation dynamics. I examine these dynamics by means of the specific case study of K-pop fandom in Indonesia. By focusing on three specific aspects of new media circulation of K-pop in Indonesia—performing immediate transculturations, embodying K-pop, and building intimacies—I contextualize transnationally focused, newly emerging, and social media–deployed cultural circulation driven by online fan practices.

An effective means of engaging spectators at live events involves providing real-time information from a variety of sources. Consumers demand personalized experience; thus, a single channel perspective fails. Modern entertainment must extend to spectator mobile devices and adapt content to individual interests. Moreover, such systems should take advantage of venue screens to engage in sharing live information, aggregated social media, etc. We propose a second screen application, providing each audience member a personalized perspective, involving mobile devices equipped with Wi-Fi, and spanning to venue screens in hotels, halls, arenas, elevators, etc. Such a system engages both local audience and remote spectators. Our work provides a case study involving experience from the deployment of such an application at the ACM-ICPC World Finals with audiences at the event and around the world. We analyze and categorize its features, consider its impact on the audience, and measure its demands.

Social media tools and applications are increasingly being integrated into modern medicine. However, little is known about how healthcare institutions are interacting online with their populations. In this case study, we identified a convenience sample of 11 institutions in Central Pennsylvania with Facebook Pages and evaluated their interactions with online communities. From May-June 2013, we noted type of healthcare institution (e.g. hospital, family practice); number of overall “likes” accrued by the healthcare facility; number of overall posts and “likes”, “comments”, and “content shares” associated with those posts; as well as number of location check-ins by “followers”. We thematically categorized each institutional post. Average number of Facebook Page “likes” was 2,261, and average number of overall posts was 28.9, or about one post every three days. On average, each post generated 16 “likes”, 1 comment, and 2.4 shares. Average number of location “check-ins” by visiting patients was 6,348. Most commonly published content across all Pages was advertisements (89%) and institutional news (89%). Patient populations in Central Pennsylvania are seeking out healthcare institutions on Facebook, although most communication appears unidirectional and involves institutional advertising and promotion. There are opportunities for institutions to focus on health promotion and undertake “social” preventive health strategies using social media.

Social media creates changes in the world of marketing, especially promotion and advertising that results in the creation of online business trends. Ivoree is a local brand that sells women's shoes through Instagram to make sales, Ivoree started selling since September 2019 through Instagram social media. Ivoree began to experience development and use social media Instagram as its main promotional tool. The purpose of this study was to find out how to use Ivoree Instagram social media. The concept used in this research is the use of Instagram social media in marketing products. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. While the data collection methods used are interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study. The results of this study are the use of social media on Instagram by uploading content and using features provided by Instagram to interact with followers, Ivoree also endorsed influencers on Instagram to attract the attention of its target market.Media sosial menciptakan perubahan pada dunia pemasaran khususnya promosi dan periklanan yang mengakibatkan terciptanya tren bisnis online. Ivoree merupakan merek lokal yang menjual sepatu perempuan melalui Instagram untuk melakukan penjualan. Ivoree mulai berjualan sejak September 2019 dan menggunakan media sosial Instagram sebagai alat promosi utamanya. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana pemanfaatan media sosial instagram Ivoree. Konsep yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pemanfaatan media sosial Instagram dalam memasarkan produk. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Sedangkan metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi, dan studi kepustakaan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah pemanfaataan media sosial di Instagram dengan mengunggah konten dan menggunakan fitur yang disediakan Instagram untuk berinteraksi dengan pengikutnya. Ivoree juga meng-endorse influencer di Instagram untuk menarik perhatian target pasarnya.

Social media has transformed election campaigns around the world. While it is difficult to determine to what extent social media influence voters' decisions, there is no doubt that social media platforms impact on candidate advertising and public debate during elections. This research, the methodological formulation of which is based on a case study, seeks to investigate the use of social media during political campaigns to collect signatures of support. In the elections of 2018, aspiring candidates for presidential election required a certain number of signatures of support in order to register as official candidates. We collected social media data on a weekly basis from the Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts of seven candidates and contrasted this data with the number of signatures validated by the electoral authority. We found no relationship between the level of support received and the use of social media in the case of any of the candidates. However, we observed candidates who did achieve the required number of signatures and who did receive official presidential candidate status as a result of their high level of visibility. This research contributes methodologically to the current literature and provides empirical evidence regarding independent candidates in Mexico.
