Sarita Tiwari (2015) in her collection of poems, Prashnaharuko Kārkhānā [Factory of Questions] protests the tradition of wearing ornaments and cosmetics by women. Likewise, she rejects the use of submissive symbols and metaphors that have been used by the creative writers to define women. She identifies them as ploys that patriarchy has invented to maintain the subordination and subjugation of women to men. She argues that these techniques mystify and blur women's identity, so she questions and challenges them. Thus, this article analyzes five poems from the anthology to examine how the poet protests the traditional norms and values of patriarchy that define women as secondary to men and search for female's identity through them. To examine the quest for female's identity in her poetry, this article takes theoretical support from feminist critics like Mary Daly, Kate Millet, Naomi Wolf and others. These critics believe that patriarchy uses different types of myths to maintain women's secondary position in the society. The article concludes that in the quest for female's identity independent of men, Tiwari protests the tradition and culture that emphasize women's beauty and their submissive roles in the society. Through their interrogating tone and syntax, the selected poems challenge patriarchal norms which have been imposed upon women to erase their identity. The study helps to understand how patriarchy manipulates the myths of religion and beauty to maintain males’ supremacy over females.

This article explores feminist voice in selected poems of four Nepali female poets. They are: "Ma Eutā Chyātieko Poshtar" ["I, a Frayed Poster"] by Banira Giri, "Pothī Bāsnu Hudaina" ["A Hen Must not Crow"] by Kunta Sharma,"Ma Strī Arthāt Āimai"["I am a Female or a Woman"] by Seema Aavas and "Tuhāu Tyo Garvalai" ["Abort the Female Foetus"] by Pranika Koyu. In the selected poems they protest patriarchy and subvert patriarchal norms and values that trivialize women. The tone of their poems is sarcastic towards male chauvinism that treats women as a second-class citizen. The poets question and ridicule the restrictive feminine gender roles that limit women's opportunity. To examine the voice of protest against patriarchy in the selected poems, the article takes theoretical support from French feminism, though not limited to it. The finding of the article suggests that Nepali women have used the genre to the political end, as a medium to advocate women's rights.

In recent times two trends have emerged in society. an increase in state control and collective consumption and a dissolution of traditional norms and values. These processes have led to the formation of various types of grass-roots organizations: single issue organizations, rural community organ izations, urban community organizations. organizations of oppressed cat egories and idealistic organizations A Danish survey of some 100 organ izations from three municipalities shows differences between structure, resources and activities of the organizations, and indicates how the processes mentioned have created the five types of grass-roots organizations The conclusion is that only organizations stressing new norms and alternative social institutions may create any long term changes.

This chapter characterizes the nature of the current mobility from Indonesia to the Arabian Peninsula, which migrants and pilgrims considered as “beaten tracks” that are loaded with meaning and direction through previous travellers' narratives. It discusses the prospect of return that significantly “leads” migrants and pilgrims in what they make of the journey. It also references norms and values that are valid in the migrants and pilgrims' home context in which the returnees exploit different types of capital from their migration or pilgrimage. The chapter looks at “success stories” of migrants and pilgrims as an outcome of their experience of guided mobility. It explores ethnographic accounts on a local level that illustrate how popular ideas of success and images of the Arab world guide migrants and pilgrims in how they represent their journeys.

There has been a global shift towards courtroom broadcasting in a bid to extend the public gallery into a virtual realm. Such initiatives tend to be based on the idea that transmitting the courtroom boosts transparency and with it public trust in criminal justice. This is an untested ambition. Moreover, the idea that filming opens a window onto the courtroom comes up against the reality that any transmission entails translation, involving choices and compromises. Based on an in-depth study of courtroom filming and audience response, this article identifies two globally dominant stylistic modes and analyses their meaning and reception. We found that different stylistic modes prompt different types of audience engagement and allow for different levels of comprehension. The analysis therefore provides an insight into how courtroom footage is consumed by the viewing public. It also contributes to our understanding of the norms and values of institutional transparency.

While attention to the ‘ndrangheta, the Calabrian mafia, in Australia, has significantly increased in the past two decades, historical records referring to this peculiar manifestation of organised crime in the country date back almost a century. This research is situated in between studies on mafia mobility and studies on the nature of mafia-type organised crime in Italy and in Australia. Relying on archival research, fieldwork and focus groups with law enforcement agencies across most Australian jurisdictions, this paper will essentially argue that there is in Australia an on-going criminal system that is made of ethnically hybrid criminal networks – predominantly made of, but not limited to, Calabrian ethnicity. Ethnic solidarity and traditional norms and values of the ‘ndrangheta, embedded in Calabrian migrant culture, provide the roof to these networks’ behaviours and organisation. This paper will discuss how the resilience of this mafia in Australia is linked to the capacity of ‘ndrangheta clans to maintain different heads – to be polycephalous – all differently and equally important: their organisational head is stable and culturally homogeneous, their (mafia-type) behaviours are constant, flexible and rooted in ethnic solidarity, and their activities are very dynamic, but hybrid in their ethnic composition.

By means of a heat treatment that was part of a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth procedure, dislocation bundles have been induced in two-inch-diameter undoped (001) GaAs substrates. On the basis of contrast variations in synchrotron-based single-crystal X-ray transmission topograms that were recorded under conditions of high anomalous transmission, these dislocation bundles have been classified into three different types. Dislocation bundles of the majority type start at the sample edges in regions around the four 〈100〉 peripheral areas, glide typically up to about 1.5 cm into the bulk of the wafer following perpendicular 〈110〉 line directions, and form a pseudo-symmetric fourfold set. There are dislocations with two different Burgers vectors in each majority-type dislocation bundle and the extended segments of all of these dislocations are of the 60° type. In order to explain complementary experimental results, it is suggested that dislocation pairs are formed in the majority-type dislocation bundles. Theoretical support for this hypothesis is derived from a model of plastic deformation of GaAs wafers during typical MBE growth. Dislocation bundles of two minority types, on the other hand, are not part of the fourfold set and originate in peripheral areas at and around 〈110〉.

Social media constitute new social spaces where the topics of death, loss, and mourning are increasingly encountered and negotiated. Users might either engage in mourning practices themselves or be confronted with other users’ mourning during their everyday social media use. The omnipresence of mourning in social media poses challenges to the users and increases the need for norms on how to engage in online mourning practices and how to react toward expressions of grief and mourning. This article systematically reviews 25 internationally published journal articles on norms guiding mourning practices and (non-)reactions toward these practices in social media. Three different types of norms related to different forms of practices are identified in the review. Results show that norms for mourning in social media are in flux and consistently negotiated between users. However, norms for mourning in social media often adhere to traditional norms that are adapted and reconfigured.

The addition of surfactants to pesticide spray applications is an important method to improve the spray atomization and the coverage of droplets on the target. The effects of different types of surfactants on spraying have been extensively studied, but there have been few studies on the commonly used surfactant polyethylene glycol so far. This article compares the effect of polyethylene glycol 20,000 on the atomization and deposition characteristics by measuring the droplet size and the deposition on the polyethylene collection line when spraying different concentrations of polyethylene glycol 20,000 solution. The results show that the volume medium diameter DV0.5 of spraying different concentrations of polyethylene glycol 20,000 solution is larger than that of clear water, and that as the concentration increases, the volume medium diameter DV0.5 gradually increases but ΦVol < 150 μm decreases. Spraying different concentrations of polyethylene glycol 20,000 solution at a horizontal distance of 2–7 m from the nozzle and at a distance of 0.1–0.2 m from the bottom of the floor, the depositions are all less than that of clear water, and as the concentration increases, the deposition becomes smaller. This article can provide theoretical support for the use and concentration ratio of polyethylene glycol 20,000 in field application.

This study focused on prospective teachers’ leisure behaviors. For this purpose, 47 fourth grade undergraduate students in Faculty of Education in Ege University, Izmir, Turkey participated. A qualitative research design was used in the study. In the process of analysing the data, Greimas’Actant Model as one of the analysing models in Semiology was utilized. This model has been used for the first time in Turkey as an analytical tool applied in leisure literature. It is based on the logical relationships to disaggregate an action into six Actant components. The interview technique assessed the individuals. Miles and Huberman’s measurements were used for reliability and validity, and the conformity was found to be 89%. The results of this research study (1) suggest a primary leisure participation in Turkey within the traditional norms and values of society, and (2) within it, the traditional differentiating role for gender.

The development of contemporary spatial structures for long-span roofs in China was initiated in the 1950s. Space trusses, reticulated shells and cable suspended structures have been developing rapidly since 1980s. Recently there has been a growing interest in tensile membrane structures. Comprehensive theoretical study has been carried out parallel to the engineering application, which provided necessary theoretical support to the development of different types of spatial structures.
