Decision theory studies individual decision-making in situations in which an individual’s choice neither affects nor is affected by other individuals’ choices; while game theory studies decision-making in situations where individuals’ choices do affect each other. Decision theory asks questions like: what does it mean to choose rationally? How should we make choices when the consequences of our actions are uncertain? Buying insurance and deciding which job to take are examples of the kind of decisions studied by this discipline. Game theory instead applies to all decisions that have a strategic component. The choices of an oligopolist, voting strategies, military tactical problems, deterrence, but also common phenomena such as threatening, promising, conflict and cooperation are its subject matter. In a strategic situation, the goal is not just to choose rationally, but to choose in such a way that a mutual solution is achieved, so that choices ‘coordinate’ in the right way. The formal methods developed by game theory do not require that the subject making a choice be an intentional agent: coordinated interaction between animals or computers can be successfully modelled as well.

Work Passion*” AND “Identity” AND “Study Case”. ABSTRACTThe present study aims to analyze how Work Passion affects the Identity of individuals in their activities, to which case studies were analyzed from the meta-synthesis methodology proposed by Hoon (2013). Considering these two concepts, it is noteworthy that for Vallarand et al. (2003) the passion for work exists when people consider it important or invest time and energy in the activity. In this sense, the valuable activities become internalized in the person's identity.  To reach the results, searches were made in four databases: Web of Science, Scielo, Spell and Scopus, in which the terms used for the search were "Work Passion*" AND "Identity" AND "Study Case". The synthesis performed in this study contributed to the advancement of the literature on Work Passion and Identity by proposing a basic set of characteristics present in the analyzed articles to which attention is drawn to the theme and its variables, advancing mainly the study of the literature on the subject, making it useful for future studies.

AbstractPublic distribution of imaging information from several MRI data processing projects at the BIC has lead to the development of this DEFACING algorithm that is used as part of anonymisation process. Key features of the algorithm include: the defacing should modify voxels associated with face of the subject, making a rendering of the face unrecognisable, it should work on data in the native scanner space and it should not significantly affect subsequent data processing outcome (model based registration, brain extraction, brain tissue classification and brain segmentation). The algorithm is implemented using the MINC library and source code is publicly available. The effect of the defacing algorithm on the data processing was verified using the ICBM database of 152 scans of young adults.

In this paper 402 publications are listed in the Bibliography of Plant Nematodes of the American Tropics, and 57 other publications which, in some respect, refer to the subject, making a total of 459. These publications cover the following countries in the American Tropics, in which actual research on plant nematodes has been or is being pursued: Hawaii, Brazil, Peru, Puerto Rico and certain islands of the Caribbean, Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico. In spite of the fact that a relatively large number of countries have conducted research on plant nematodes, only a restricted number of crops are covered, such as pineapple, banana, sugarcane, coffee, coconut palm, cotton, kenaf, potato, and certain vegetables.

The war/peace dichotomy is a recurrent one in human thought and the range of experience it interprets is vast. Images of war and peace permeate religion, literature and art. Wars, battles, pacts and covenants appear as outcomes and antecedents in historical narratives. Recurrent patterns of warlike and pacific behaviour invite scientific explanations in terms of underlying biological, psychological or economic processes. War and peace are also often matters of practical concern, predicaments or opportunities that call for individual or collective action. While philosophers have explored all these ways of looking at war and peace, they have paid most attention to the practical aspects of the subject, making it part of moral and political philosophy. Practical concern with war and peace can go in either of two main directions, one focusing on war and the other on peace. Those who doubt that war can be abolished naturally worry about how it can be regulated. So long as war is possible, there will be principles for waging it. Whether such principles should limit war-making to ends like self-defence or leave the choice to the discretion of political and military leaders is a matter of continuing dispute. Nor is there agreement regarding restrictions on the conduct of war, some holding that belligerents need only avoid disproportionate damage, others that it is morally wrong to harm innocents (for example, noncombatants). In situations of emergency both limits may give way, and moralists have debated whether this relaxation of standards is defensible. Disputes over the principles governing war raise difficult questions about action, intention and the character of morality itself. If we think that wars can be prevented, it becomes important to focus on the conditions of permanent peace. Some who do this conclude that peace depends on the conversion of individuals to an ethic of nonviolence, others that it requires strengthening the rule of law. According to a powerful version of the latter argument, the absence of law creates a condition in which persons and communities are at liberty to invade one another: a condition that, in Hobbes’s classic metaphor, is a ‘state of nature’ which is also a perpetual state of war. While treaties of peace may terminate particular wars, only political institutions that establish the rule of law within and between communities can provide security and guarantee peace.

This study examines China’s mass innovation/mass entrepreneurship campaign, with particular attention to the community of maker-entrepreneurs in the new techno-political ordering of society and their social territories. This raises the question of the subject-making of maker-entrepreneurs on a massive scale through what we call the new education–incubatory assemblage. How does the new education–incubatory machine assemble a new participatory community, form a production–communications–consumption circuit to imagine the new economy and re-territorialise the techno-political ordering of society? Our study stresses two differences in the social factory. First, by forging a fragmented pattern of production and an individualised society, mass entrepreneurship emphasises social networking. The exploitation of social relations in production has been brought to the foreground. Second, a participatory mass is not only shaped by the new mentality, but also constitutive of the very formation of the new mentality. Such a mass is a collection of actors, from the government, cooperatives, start-ups and individuals. In addition, their agencies vary, from those with a more reified form of power, such as policy, to the mundane, unrehearsed actions of individuals. This process entails the reconfiguration of political apparatus and bio-political power.

All duties are either duties of right (officia iuris), that is, duties for which external lawgiving is possible, or duties of virtue (officia virtutis s. ethica), for which external lawgiving is not possible. - Duties of virtue cannot be subject to external lawgiving simply because they have to do with an end which (or the having of which) is also a duty. No external lawgiving can bring about someone's setting an end for himself (because this is an internal act of the mind), although it may prescribe external actions that lead to an end without the subject making it his end. AbstractThis paper studiesmeasurement linkage. An example from cell biology helps explain the problem: imagine for a given cell we can either sequence the cell’s RNA or we can examine its morphology, but not both. Given a cell’s morphology, what do we expect to see in its RNA? Given a cell’s RNA, what do we expect in its morphology? More broadly, given a measurement of one type, can we predict measurements of the other type? This measurement linkage problem arises in many scientific and technological fields. To solve this problem, we develop a nonparametric approach we dub the “Markov link method” (MLM). The MLM makes a conditional independence assumption that holds in many multi-measurement contexts and provides a way to estimate thelink, the conditional probability of one type of measurement given the other. We derive conditions under which the MLM estimator is consistent and we use simulated data to show that it provides accurate measures of uncertainty. We evaluate the MLM on real data generated by a pair of single-cell RNA sequencing techniques. The MLM characterizes the link between them and helps connect the two notions of cell type derived from each technique. Further, the MLM reveals that some aspects of the link cannot be determined from the available data, and suggests new experiments that would allow for better estimates.Significance StatementNovel experimental techniques are developing quickly, and each technique gives new perspectives. Ideally we would build theories that account for many perspectives at once. This is not easy. One challenge is that many experiments use measurement techniques that alter or destroy the subject, making it impossible to measure the same subject with both techniques and difficult to combine data from different experiments. In this paper we develop the Markov Link Method, a new tool that overcomes this challenge.
