This descriptive survey research investigated the motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic) from a gender point of view and established a link of motivation (extrinsic and intrinsic) with students academic achievement. From two public sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 162 students were selected through the use of the technique of stratified random sampling. For measuring the students motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic), a scale developed by Lepper et al. (2005) was used. In order to analyze the collected data, the correlation coefficient and t-test were used. Results showed that Male students are more extrinsically motivated. A significant gender difference in the aspect of Easy work and academic outcomes exists. Furthermore, students educational attainment is significantly affected by both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

This study was performed to discover the influence of rumination and worry, test anxiety and procrastination on the educational attainment of the students of the university. The descriptive survey research method was used for conducting the research. The technique of stratified random sampling was used to select 400 students from the 7th and 8th semesters of fall, 2018 from four public sector universities of the Hazara Division. The ruminative responsive scale developed by Treynor, Gonzalez and Nolen-Hoeksema, (2003), Test anxiety developed by Nest and Diehl (1990), and Abu Ghazal (2012) scale of academic procrastination was adopted as data collection instruments. Regression analyses, coefficient of correlation, mean, and standard deviation was applied for the analysis of data. The results of the study found that test anxiety is greater among students of the university. It was established that rumination and worry, academic procrastination and test anxiety has a significant positive relationship among each other. Further, it was indicated that test anxiety and academic procrastination has significant impact on educational attainment.

Purpose of the study: The study aimed to discover the learning strategies of distance learners and their relationship with their intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Methodology: The study followed a quantitative correlational research design. The study sample comprised 550 female and male students enrolled as distance learners at the university level. The tool of learning strategies MSLQ was adopted from Pintrich et al. (1991) and the scale of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation was adopted from Lepper et al. (2005). The data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Main Findings: The findings of the inquiry concluded that the learning strategies of distance learners were directly associated with both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. Applications of this study: This study is applicable to assess the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of distance learners enrolled at the university level. Moreover, this study is helpful to understand the relationship between the motivation of learners and their learning styles. Novelty/Originality of this study: Much of the research work has been done in the mainstream education sector, but there is a shortage of empirical data on the relationship between the learning styles of distance learners and their motivation. Thus, this research could be a torchbearer in this area.

The present investigation is a comparative study in which a total of 564 tribal and non-tribal adolescent students of Jammu And Kashmir State were selected by stratified random sampling technique. The tribal and non-tribal students were compared for the relationships between academic achievement and scientific temper. Data collected by The Scientific temper scale (2008) by Showkat and Nadeem showed a significant relationship between academic achievement and scientific temper in non-tribal adolescents only. Further gender wise comparisons revealed that male and female students of non-tribal group had significant relationship between the two variables as compared to tribal group.

The study aims to investigate the relationship between the academic achievement of computerized tests and traditional pen and paper exams of Business College students at the University of Jordan- Aqaba branch as well as relate differences results to students` gender. The study sample comprised 136 students of a compulsory course at the Business Faculty. A computerized mid-term test was held while the final one was traditional. The results of the two tests were compared where the other general factors affecting students` academic achievement, namely ( the same students, course subject, course subject lecturer) were set. The tests marks were sampled as percentage to the test mark so as to delete the denominator difference of marks where the mid-term mark is out of 30 while the final test is out of 50. The SPSS was used to compare the results of the two tests. Results were related to students gender, whether gender-related differences are found. The study concluded that there is no statistical significant relationship between the academic achievement of computerized tests and traditional ones (paper and pen) held at the Business College in The University of Jordan- Aqaba branch. The results also indicated that the academic achievement differences resulting from computerized tests have to do with the student gender variable in favour of male students.

SummaryThe aim of the article is to analyse various contexts of passion perceived as an important component of researcher’s identity. First, passion is confronted with the concept if rationality which dominates the university thinking about research. Second, passion is considered in relations to intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Next, the author concentrates attention on factors which limit the passion development: present commercialization of research as well as their permanent indexation and evaluation, re-locating the researcher’s energy on permanent reporting and detailed juridization of academic reality. At the end the possibility of passion in contemporary research is optimistically confirmed by the idea of academic community and academic freedom.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between motivational factors in continuing education and academic achievement of adult learners. The study is conducted due to a lack of research pertaining to academic achievement among adult learners particularly in Malaysia. Methodology – A random sample of 150 part-time adult learners from a public university in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, represented 202 part-time adult learners in the areas of social sciences and humanities at the university. A thirty-item questionnaire, adapted from Boshier’s Education Participation Scale(EPS) (1991) and Neill’s The University Students Motivation and Satisfaction Questionnaire 2 (TUSMSQ2) (2004) was used to examine their motivational factors i.e. personal development, career advancement, social pressure, social and communication improvement, and escapism. Self-reported cumulative grade point average (CGPA) was utilized as the measurement of academic achievement. Rasch analysis reaffirmed the content validity of items in the questionnaire. Findings – The findings indicate that personal development and social pressure are the best predictors of academic achievement among adult learners. The motivational factors that are not significant as predictors are career advancement, social and communication improvement, and escapism. Adult learners with higher motivation for personal development (intrinsic motivation) perform better academically. Conversely, adult learners with higher motivation based on social pressure (extrinsic motivation) perform lower academically. Intrinsic motivation seems to be more powerful in enhancing academic achievement of adult learners as compared to extrinsic motivation. Significance – This finding is crucial for program planners and adult educators. They will be able to lead adult learners to be more intrinsically motivated in continuing education. In this way, they will optimize their learning outcomes and develop quality human capital in Malaysia.

The major trust of this study was to examine the academic achievement of pahari students in
relation to their mental health. The present study was carried-out on sample of 200 pahari
students selected from 6 secondary schools of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir through
stratified random sampling technique. Mental health scale developed by Dr. Mercy Abraham and Dr. K.C. Baby Prasanna was used to collect required information, while the total marks obtained by the students in the previous class were used as an achievement criterion. Two statistical techniques like Pearson’s product moment method and ‘t’ test were used to analyze the data. The study shows that there is a positive correlation between academic achievement and mental health of students. The result of the study further revealed significant differences between boys and girls as well as rural and urban students in regard to their mental health. On the basis of these findings some suggestions both for practice and further studies have been put forward by the author.
