There are many respiratory diseases, which despite the difference in aetiology, pathogenesis, the peculiarities in progression may have some common features, resulting in the localization of the pathological process in the respiratory systems. These common signs include changes in bronchial secretion that ultimately leads to mucostasis and burdens the course of any respiratory disease. There are very few combined formulations capable of impacting several mechanisms of mucostasis at once. One of them is Ascoril possessing a double effect of bronchodilator and expectorant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Ascoril therapy for patients with acute respiratory diseases. The study included 105 patients aged 25 ± 0.5 to 55 ± 1.6 years with mild or moderate acute respiratory disease, who had acute respiratory diseases with cough due to laryngitis, pharyngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis. Patients of the 1st group (75 patients, the main group) received the treatment with Ascoril, the patients of the 2nd group (30 patients, the comparison group) received Bromhexine. The patients in both groups were comparable by age and sex. The patients treated with Ascoril showed the disappearance of cough symptoms 3 – 4 days earlier than the patients in the comparison group (p < 0.05). The total score assessment of clinical symptoms during the treatment demonstrated the administration of Ascoril promoted the effectiveness of therapy, which was found significantly higher than in the 2nd group (p < 0.05). We can conclude Ascoril reduces the duration of the disease, cut down the need in antibiotics, lowers the manifestations of bronchial hyper reactivity, and promotes faster clinical recovery, the last but not the least, it is safe.

Objectives. Mount Sakurajima in Japan is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. This work was conducted to examine the effect of volcanic ash on the chronic respiratory disease mortality in the vicinity of Mt. Sakurajima.Methods. The present work examined the standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) of respiratory diseases during the period 1968–2002 in Sakurajima town and Tarumizu city, where ashfall from the volcano recorded more than 10.000 g/m2/yr on average in the 1980s.Results. The SMR of lung cancer in the Sakurajima-Tarumizu area was 1.61 (95% CI = 1.44–1.78) for men and 1.67 (95% CI = 1.39–1.95) for women while it was nearly equal to one in Kanoya city, which neighbors Tarumizu city but located at the further position from Mt. Sakurajima, and therefore has much smaller amounts of ashfall. Sakurajima-Tarumizu area had elevated SMRs for COPDs and acute respiratory diseases while Kanoya did not.Conclusions. Cristobalite is the most likely cause of the increased deaths from those chronic respiratory diseases since smoking is unlikely to explain the increased mortality of respiratory diseases among women since the proportion of smokers in Japanese women is less than 20%, and SPM levels in the Sakurajima-Tarumizu area were not high. Further studies seem warranted.

Purpose of the Study: Assessment of the influence of the type of the adapted infant milk formula in infants on the formation of the body resistance. Children Characteristics and Study Methods. 105 virtually healthy children were examined, as follows: 35 children were breastfed (control group), 70 children were formula fed including 35 children that received NENNY with prebiotics formula based on the goat milk (main group), 35 children – formulas based on the cow milk with probiotics and prebiotics (comparison group). The incidence rate of the acute respiratory diseases (ARD) as well as the number of the pneumonia histories in the infants were assessed, and the body resistance index was calculated. The laboratory assessment of the child body immunoresistance was carried out using the method of imprint smears from the nasal mucous membranes and the method of nasal washes. Results. It was determined that there were 2 times more children of the main group with no history of the acute respiratory diseases when infant than in the comparison group. In general, the good resistance (were sick 0-3 times a year) in the main group was registered in 82.9% of the children, while it was only 60% in the comparison group. The average number of the ARD cases per year was 2.3 ± 0.02 in the main group, which is 1.5 times less than in the comparison group – 3.6 ± 0.04 (p <0.05), and in 1, 3 times more than that in the control group – 1.8 + 0.03 (p<0.05). In average, the resistance index was 0.28 ± 0.02 in the main group, while it was 0.36 ± 0.03 in the comparison group, and 0.25 ± 0.02 in the control group. When studying the incidence rate of the community-acquired pneumonia in the infants, it was revealed that 2.8% of them were ill in the control group, 5.7% of them in the main group, and 8.5% in the comparison group. When feeding the child with formulas based on the goat’s milk, the level of mucosal immunity of the nasal mucosa and enzyme systems of the intraleukocyte microbicidal system is assured, which is virtually indistinguishable from the level of immunity achieved with breastfeeding. Conclusion. Adapted NENNY with prebiotics formulas can be recommended for children who are formula fed when infant in order to increase the body’s resistance and to reduce the incidence rate of the acute respiratory diseases and community-acquired pneumonia.

Acute respiratory infections are the most common pathology in childhood, representing not only a medical but also a socio-economic problem. Numerous studies on the use of anti-inflammatory therapy in ARI have shown high efficacy and safety profile of fenspiride. The combination of anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and antispasmodic properties ensures the success of fenspiride in the treatment of acute respiratory diseases in children. Fenspiride reduces symptoms of ARI, accelerates recovery, reduces the need for additional prescription of other drugs.

Background: Scabies is one of the most common skin diseases in our country. It is caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis, which is an ecto-parasite infesting the epidermis. Scabies is highly contagious. Prevalence is high in congested or densely populated areas. Individuals with close contact with an affected person should be treated with scabicidal which is available in both oral and topical formulations. The only oral but highly effective scabicidal known to date is Ivermectin. Amongst topical preparations, Permethrin 5 % cream is the treatment of choice. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy & safety of oral Ivermectin compared to topical Permethrin in the treatment of scabies. Methodology: This prospective, non-randomized study was conducted at the out-patient department of Dermatology and Venereology of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital over a period of 6 months, from August 2016 to January 2017. The study population consisted of one hundred patients having scabies, enrolled according to inclusion criteria. They were divided into two groups. group A was subjected to oral Ivermectin and the group B to Permethrin 5% cream. Patients were followed up on day 7 and 14 for assessment of efficacy and safety. Result: The mean scoring with SD in group A (Ivermectin) and group B (Permethrin) were 8.26 ± 2.22 and 7.59 ± 2.01 respectively at the time of observation. The difference between the mean score of the two group is not significant (p=0.117) the mean scoring with SD in group A and group B were 4.54 ± 2.05 and 1.64 ± 1.84 respectively at 7thdays. The difference between the mean score of the two group is significant (p<0.001). The mean scoring with SD in group A and group B were 2.68± 2.35 and .36± 1.10 respectively at 14th day difference between the mean score of the group is significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Topical application of permethrin 5% cream is more effective and safer than oral Ivermectin in the treatment of scabies. TAJ 2020; 33(1): 41-47

The widespread worldwide spread of acute respiratory diseases is an urgent problem in health care. Expressed polyetiology of respiratory diseases does not allow to limit the use of specific vaccine preparations and dictates the need to use to combat them a variety of non-specific means that stimulate the natural resistance of the human body. The main pharmacological action of sodium deoxyribonucleate is the stimulation of phagocytic activity of T-helpers and T-killers, increasing the functional activity of neutrophils and monocytes/ macrophages, providing regeneration and repair processes in the epithelial component of antiviral protection of the body. Based on the above, the study of the clinical efficacy of Derinat® in the form of spray in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections is relevant.
