The article examines the experience of teachers and literary critics in the selection of poetic works and poets for the children’s reading list. Reviewers of the “Pedagogical Collection” evaluated books for students of military educational institutions, and the experts of “Women’s Education” focused on the reading of women’s school students. The paper describes and analyzes approaches to the creation of gender opposed bookshelves, the nature of the requirements for poems for girls-high-school students and boys-students of military schools. Department journals performed regulative and evaluative function of the expert community, which was focused on the educational ideas of the departments. The content of “book- shelves” is considered and analyzed: “classic” authors (G. R. Derzhavin, K. N. Batyushkov, P. A. Vyazemsky, V. A. Zhukovsky, I. I. Kozlov, A. V. Koltsov, M. Yu. Lermontov, M. V. Lomonosov, P. S. Maikov, I. S. Nikitin, N. A. Nekrasov, V. A. Ozerov, A. S. Pushkin, F. I. Tyutchev) , and collections of poems by children’s poets (N. Blinov, A. Kruglov, N. Pozdnyakov, M. Evstigneev, G. Weinberg, I. Derkachev, I. Panov). On the example of the authors reviewed in the 1860s-80s, it is observed how the expert community of teachers and literary critics participated in the formalization of gender differentiation. The article provides evidence for particular diachronic qualities of such selection of poets that have influenced the work of literary critics, publishers, and compilers of poetry readers.

Introduction.. The main purpose of pre-university educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence ofRussia, e.g. Suvorov Military Schools, Nakhimov Naval Schools, presidential schools and cadet corps, is to educate graduates, who are highly motivated and sufficiently prepared for military vocational activities, including graduates’ general physical fitness. Successful performance of the task is complicated by the fact that educational process in such organisations has a general educational orientation, which is common for the entire system of school education. However, it is obvious that the specifics of the mission of preuniversity educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation requires more intensive physical activities, which improve health and increase physical endurance of students, taking into account their age-specific physiological characteristics. In this regard, it is necessary to develop a variable methodological block as a supplement to an invariant part of the main programme of physical culture, which will be aimed at stimulating the development of motor and power capabilities, skills and professionally significant qualities of future military personnel. The aim of the research was to select and scientifically justify the introduction of appropriate and effective means for high-school students’ physical education in pre-university educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence ofRussia.Methodology and research methods. To identify the appropriate ways of solution of the problems of profile physical education of potential officers at the stage pre-professional development, the methodological framework was based on the theory of physical culture and sport, individually-modular approach to the development of the system of professional and applied physical training, its principles and regularities, conceptual provisions of health preservation in adolescence and youth. In the course of the research, the authors thoroughly studied the scientific and methodological sources, regulatory and legal base of the organisation of educational process, questions of its planning and control of all forms and activities of students’ physical training in military schools. The following methods were applied: interview, pedagogical observation, questionnaire survey, technique of entrance and final testing of selection of the research participants, formative experi ment, monitoring, comparative analysis and systematisation of indicators (resultant scores) of sports achievements of examinees. Experimental data were processed by the methods of mathematical statistics. Results and scientific novelty. The selection of means of physical training in pre-university all-service military and naval educational institutions was made on the basis of theoretical and statistical material of analytical review and collected empirical data and pedagogical experience in 17 pre-university educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence of Russia (n = 607). The list of the most productive means is made. The quantitative ratio of military-applied methods, which positively influence the system of physical training in the 10th-11th grades, is established. The pilot testing showed that systematic use of special training exercises of military-applied orientation significantly improves the indicators of physical training of students. The analysis of students’ questionnaires before and after the experiment revealed strengthening of students’ moral stability, growing interest in military science and motivation to studying of an applied training material, as well as significant increase in the number of applicants seeking to continue their training in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and to dedicate their lives to military service. The proposals and practical recommendations on purposeful introduction of complexes of specialised physical exercises and elements of disciplines of military-applied sports to educational process are formulated.Practical significance. The results of the research can be employed to plan and organise physical training of high-school students of pre-university educational institutions of the Ministry of Defence ofRussia as additional programme and methodological support at the initial stage of military-applied physical training of future military specialists.

The likelihood that learned skills will be maintained in natural performance settings may be affected by the number of opportunities to perform the skills following acquisition. To examine this hypothesis, 17 high school students with moderate to severe mental retardation were selected from three public school classrooms. Each student had learned one adaptive skill that he or she had performed at least twice per month without additional training for 5 months prior to this study (high opportunity). Each student had also learned one adaptive skill that he or she had not performed more often than once per month over the 5 months immediately preceding the study (low opportunity). Performance of both behaviors was probed under conditions as similar as possible to those experienced during training. Twelve of the 17 high opportunity skills were performed successfully while only 4 of the 17 low opportunity skills were completed. A sign test indicated these differences to be statistically significant. Implications of the results for selection of IEP goals and the inclusion of “opportunity” objectives are discussed.

This is a study of high school students’ attitudes toward the English language in Lebanon. The purpose of this research is to assess the extent of use of English inside and outside the schools taking into consideration the attitude towards the language. Two schools were selected, one upper middle class and one lower middle class. This selection of different social classes aims at finding whether a student’s socio- economical background affects his/ her attitude toward the English language. The sample of respondents returned 52 questionnaires from the two schools. Although this sample was a modest one, it highlighted the differences in attitudes towards the English language, but these attitudes did not relate much to the socioeconomic class as much as personal preferences. However, what was salient in this research is how students from the lower middle class were more inclined to use English to raise their social status and both groups agreed that English is essential to their progress in life.

The first high school student Haiku-Karuta competition was held at I-Shou University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in May 2017. Haiku, which is a traditional Japanese cultural form, is widely known abroad, and karuta is often used in Japanese language educational institutions. Our competition event is a fusion of these two kinds of Japanese cultural traditions, i.e. haiku and karuta, and 61 high school students participated in the game. The competition contributes to the reception and diffusion of haiku and karuta in Taiwan. Also, the educational merits of the competition involve students having to concentrate on listening to and reading Japanese traditional poems. The fusion is immensely useful in learning Japanese language and culture. In this paper, we will describe the competition in detail.

Anak Pelangi Indonesia (API) Foundation is a non-profit foundation that offers scholarship programs for elementary, middle and high school students. This institute is supported by donaturs who give contribution to the Foundation. The donation is processed to be a cost that is used to pay Sumbangan Pembinaan Pendidikan (SPP) or Education Development Donation of each student. Currently, the provision of monthly donor fund is at uncertain amount so that the Foundation needs to determine the students of whom SPP will be firstly paid. However, the funding needs of each student are different due to the different amount of SPP and a giving fine from the school for the tardiness in paying the tuition. From these matters, the Foundation finds it difficult in deciding which students whose the tuition will be paid first. The solution to this problem is to use the four criteria referring to the tuition payment, namely the difference of pay date, fine, rank, and the amount of payment. The four criteria is then given the same integrity which is 25% for each criteria and counted by using Weighted Product (WP) method. The result of this research is an information system to the selection of scholarship payment using Weight Product method that takes the biggest value from the calculation result as a reference in deciding which students of whom SPP will be initially paid in accordance with the current fund condition.

Various types of educational devices that are used as a support for the creation of a good education are certainly important. One of them is using an effective method to provide a concept to students optimally. This study aims to analyze how high and important the influence of the experimental method on science subjects at the junior high school. The method used is a qualitative research method with a mini survey method on 47 samples consisting of junior high school students, high school students, college students, and alumni students as well as a literature study method (library study) which is carried out by screening electronic books (e-books) and e- journals. The results showed that 94% of experimental research methods were effectively used and 6% were not effectively used in the science learning process. The effectiveness of this method is that students can prove that an accepted concept is in accordance with the given theory and students can hone their psychomotor abilities. The weakness of this method is that it can be seen from the inadequate infrastructure, the ability of teachers, controlling students, and the selection of practicum materials.

National assessments of U.S. high school students' writing and other verbal abilities do not show that literacy has declined substantially in recent years. In fact, scores have been relatively stable since the 1980s. The proportion of students with solid writing and reading abilities has held fairly steady but remained small during the past 25 years. During this period, however, the proportion of high school graduates who enter higher education has soared. Thus, more students with weak verbal abilities now enter college. Initiatives that encourage people to continue their education have succeeded, whereas initiatives to improve writing, reading, and reasoning abilities have not. The complex causes of entering college students' weak verbal abilities include social and cultural forces as well as decisions by educational institutions. By understanding the complicated history of this issue and reframing it in positive terms, business and technical communication faculty can help effect change.

This research considered students’ abilities to read images about dispersed systems, taken from the chemistry textbook. 103 high school students (37 males, 63 females, and 3 unknown) from the school “Svetozar Marković“ in Novi Sad, Republic of Serbia, were included as the research participants. Students’ abilities to suggest the titles of the realistic, conventional, and hybrid textbook images about dispersed systems, as well as their written interpretations of images contents, were examined. The collected data were analysed qualitatively, and information about students’ conceptual understandings and misunderstandings about selected chemistry topic was provided. Identified misunderstandings, some of which are the contribution of this research, gave significant results. Additionally, it was concluded that the majority of students’ difficulties were related to reading realistic textbook images. Students relied on what they literally saw in the photography without making proper connections with chemical contents about dispersed systems. The findings of the present research could be helpful for science teachers and educators, interested in how and why students use textbook images to learn science concepts. They will also alert authors and textbook illustrators to pay more attention to the selection of appropriate textbook images. Keywords: image types, general chemistry, reading images, textbook images, visual representations.

The paper offers a few activities for high school students which use the magnetometer of a smartphone to measure the value of magnetic fields. The first part of the paper deals with finding the magnetometer of the used smartphone. Following is the first selection of activities which are focused on discovering the equation for measuring the magnetic field of coil with a negligible length, while the second selection of activities use the discovered equation to measure the permeability of vacuum and finally to measure the magnetic field of the earth. Sample results of the experiments are given, showing the accuracy and effectiveness of the conducted experiments. The activities offer teachers a novel way for teaching the equation for calculating the magnetic field of a coil, as well as measuring the permeability of vacuum in a classroom environment.
