This research aims at utilizing the knowledge of logical fallacies in analyzing Shakespeare’s masterpiece Julius Caesar. Spotting these fallacies in the characters’ actions and speeches is more likely to expand our horizon by grasping what is hidden between the lines and beyond the surface dialogue, thus revealing the true intentions of the characters and the subliminal messages beyond what they say. To achieve this goal, an explanation for each fallacy is provided. Also, various examples of fallacies committed by Donald Trump in the American presidential debate in addition to some of his fallacious tweets and other examples are thoroughly analyzed. It is found that by providing meticulous analysis for the fallacies under question readers would be protected from being victimized to any ambiguous and/or language literary interpretation.

Although a large number of studies have put a focus on the enactment of blended learning in English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom, there is a paucity of research into the teacher’s lived experiences of how they enact assessment in the blended learning activities. To fill such a gap, this paper reports on a narrative inquiry of an EFL teacher’s lived experiences of conducting assessment during blended learning in the pandemic era. The finding of the study shed light on the ineffectiveness of the assessment practice during the blended learning enactment, particularly in the context of rural schools. Albeit the participating teacher in this study was fully engaged to conduct assessment from his past experiences, two major problems hinder such a practice: students’ unsubmitted assignments and poor Internet connection. Based on these findings, teachers are encouraged to find an alternative assessment practice during the blended learning, portfolio assessment can be an option. This suggestion is anchored by the fact that the assessment practice was not technically supported during the blended learning activities.

Many instructors around the world have been using different Game-based Student Response Systems due to the rise in the variety and availability of digital educational and commercial games. Kahoot, one of the most popular among these systems, provides a game experience by combining theory of intrinsic motivation and game-flow with the help of audio/visual aids. In spite of the numerous attempts to evaluate this game-based tool according, limited research has focused on teachers’ perceptions of the potential strengths and weaknesses of Kahoot, specifically in GCC countries.  Employing focus group interviews, this study attempts to shed some light on the potential advantages and disadvantages of Kahoot by gathering the views of teachers who work at the Center for Preparatory Studies at a university in Oman. Results indicate that although teachers believe that Kahoot is qualified with several positive features, it still suffers from several disadvantages in which it can definitely improve.

This paper examines Cameroonians’ use / attitudes to French, English, Cameroon home languages, and other variables to better project the future of those languages in Cameroon. The data analysed were collected through a questionnaire administered to 349 secondary school learners of three regions of Cameroon and 943 students  of the Universities of Dschang, Douala, Buea and Maroua (N=1292). The findings show that a few young Cameroonians speak their mother tongues, but would like their future children to speak them and to be multilingual. This is a quite contradictory situation as those children will have nobody to acquire those languages from. An important number of young French-speaking Cameroonians would prefer English as language of instruction and would like to abandon French in future.

Corpus linguistics has become increasingly important to both language researchers and teachers over the past three decades. As a popular practice of corpus linguistics, Data-Driven Learning (DDL) sees a rapidly growing body of research as well as instruction in the field. There is, however, a lack of comprehensive literature reviews that summarize the effectiveness, learners’ perception, as well as factors affecting the success of DDL to guide its practices. In response, this study analyzes previous DDL research to show the feasibility of the activities in EFL classrooms. For the purpose, we collected and analyzed relevant research articles from 19 journals in the discipline of applied linguistics. Our analysis revealed that while DDL has been proved generally effective in improving learners’ target language proficiency with respect to a variety of linguistic aspects, a set of its drawbacks have been elicited from the learners. The results indicate the instructors’ need to take into account the learner as well as technique background before the introduction of DDL into their classrooms.

This study aims to explore the Lebanese sociolinguistics as manifested in chatting, that is, to assess how a sample of Lebanese students use their languages skills while carrying an on-line conversation via chatting. The research will also investigate the variations governed by sociolinguistics branding the Lebanese chatting community. To carry out this study, a mix approach of quantitative and qualitative methodology is used. Indeed, the research will describe the participants’ computer literacy and how this is interrelated to the choice of chatting language. The researcher uses two methods, formal interviews with selected chatters and a survey questionnaire that reflects both linguistic issues and computer and chatting literacy. Data analysis uses SPSS version 25 software and performed descriptively. Findings show that although having a multilingual society is considered a positive and uplifting certitude, this fact should not be taken for granted and languages must be directed properly. Students cannot be left without guidance to the use of any language.
