AbstractThe failure to have a dialogue between religious understanding and social reality in Indonesia, which is multicultural, plural, and diverse, is the root of social conflicts with religious backgrounds. The failure to dialogue understanding is experienced by hardline groups who do not want to tolerate and find it difficult to compromise with the understanding of other religions that are different. The main commitment of religious moderation to tolerance makes it the best way to deal with religious radicalism that threatens religious life itself and, in turn, affects the life of community, nation and state unity. Social conflicts in Argentina over the past decade have retrieved the essence of the capitalist dispute: the struggle between capital and labor as situated in the workplace and no longer across urban space as it was in the 1990s. In this context, both institutionalized and alternative union expressions regained their centrality for analyzing social reality. The revitalization of collective bargaining and the consequent repositioning of unions on the labor and political scene activated grassroots dynamics that sometimes challenged existing union structures. Few experiences of resistance were able to alter the balance of power as much as the workers’ organization of the Buenos Aires subway. This organization was able to achieve such gains because of a combination of the strategic importance of the subway to the city’s production and reproduction, the fact that the privatization of the firm was a time-limited concession rather than a direct sale, the union tradition and workers’ awareness of lost rights, and the incorporation of new workers with a history of political militancy.

Abstract This article analyzes modern religious life in Ukraine, specifically the relations between religious organizations and government bodies in state and social domains. Particular attention is given to the concrete territorial and historical evolution of state Christian doctrines and church relations in Ukrainian lands. The article also examines the main problems and conflicts regarding the registration and functioning of the largest religious organizations in the country, and relations between them. Special attention is paid to the role that religious organizations play in the democratic processes, and to their effect on the relations between state and church. These relations have unfolded against the background of the political events of the last 15 years in Ukraine and the region: internal social conflicts, the general trend toward pro-European democratization, and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The article asserts that plurality—particularly with respect to religious understanding—is a certainty and an avoidable matter, which should be wisely addressed. This is a pivotal issue as the fact shows us that Indonesia, naturally and culturally, consists of various different ethnic groups. Bhinneka Tuggal Ika—as national watchword—affirms that Indonesia is founded on diversity and difference. However, Indonesian nation has to unite despite of its diversity. In addition, Indonesia is also called a colorful state. This statement refers to the fact that there are a vast number of different ethnic groups, cultures, and religions that live and exist in this country. Empirically, plurality has often caused social conflicts which involve interfaith groups with different religious understanding. The conflict occurs when these different groups are unprepared to live together harmoniously and build coexistence. Therefore, it is important to continuously promote the values of pluralism and multiculturalism in order to create a better life order based on acceptance, respect, and tolerance. To do so, emotional and intellectual intelligences—as “social modal”—are urgently required. The writer argues that this is a way—if not the sole—to bring about solution to the problem of religious plurality and religious understanding.

The widespread of violence cases in the name of religion are so frequent in Indonesia which need to get attention, especially by Islamic educational institutions. Islamic teachings that have always upheld the diversity, human values, love of peace, and amatory began to fade away by an exclusive religious understanding by a group which is called radicals. Various conflicts that occur should immediately find a solution to not expand and sustainable. Multicultural-based Islamic education is one of the alternative ways that can be the foundation to reduce the attitude of radicalism. The content of multicultural values that can be internalized among others is the value of tolerance, the value of democracy, and the value of peace.

Abstract: The study of the decadent condition in which the traditional religious life found itself in the middle of the 19th century provides us with the necessary information to understand the dynamics of religious life itself; it also helps us to understand an important moment of the relationship between the Church and the State. In this present article we deal with this subject from the perspective of one of the most representative characters of that historical moment, Friar Francisco de Monte Alverne. A Franciscan from the St. Anthony Convent in Rio de Janeiro, Monte Alverne was not only a cultured man but also one of the best known preachers of the Empire and had easy access to the most important courtiers. The analysis of his Reform Project enables us to find out about the situation of the religious life at that time through the trajectory and the opinions of someone who was, to a certain extent, the very personification of that moment of crisis.
