Conflict Management Styles Used by Teachers at Public and Private Sector Universities of Lahore

This study aimed to investigate the most prevalent Conflict Management Styles (CMSs) among teachers at public and private sector universities of Lahore. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory Roci-II form C. This inventory was pilot tested and its reliability was found to be 0.86. The sample comprised 446 teachers selected using two-stage random sampling technique from six public and private sector universities of Lahore. The findings revealed that managing conflicts through accommodating and collaborating styles were practiced by university teachers and these particular styles mostly prevailed among them. There was no meaningful difference found between teachers from public and private universities; however, some differences were found on the basis of other demographic variables such as gender, designation, age, and qualification of respondents.

The beauty of society lies in the differences of opinions, and if this difference of opinion is constructive, society booms. The difference of opinions is also known as conflict of opinions. The study aimed to explore the practices and perceptions of different conflict management styles adopted by the different academic managers in the area of Southern Punjab. As the research problem is a current phenomenon and survey research design is most appropriate to achieve such kind of study. All Principals/Vice Principals and teachers of all public and private colleges of the Southern Punjab region were the populations of the study. By adopting a multistage sampling technique, the targeted sample was selected. Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory (ROCI), designed by Rahim in 1983, was adopted to measure the conflict management styles of administrators and cross-check them with their subordinates. Data collection was done by the researcher personally. Collected data was feed in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 and got the results by the test of ANOVA. Based on the findings of the study in a tabulated form, observable suggestions were also designed.

Objective: To determine the frequency of academic misconduct among students of medical colleges affiliated with University of Health sciences in Punjab. Study Design: Cross-sectional analytical study. Place and Duration of Study: Different public and private sector medical colleges in Punjab affiliated with University of Health Sciences, from Jan 2018 to Dec 2018. Methodology: Sample size calculated at 95% level of confidence, 1% required precision and 4.7% 6 anticipated population proportion was 1721. However, to increase the validity of study it was taken as 2000. Multistage stratified random sampling technique was used to select the study subjects. Information was collected on a self-administered questionnaire containing the common trends of academic misconducts. Data was entered and analyzed through SPSS version 22. Results: Total 2000 students were enrolled in the study with equal participation from public and private sector. Mean age of the respondents was 21.82 ± 1.82 years. Overall frequency of academic misconduct was high i.e. 1928 (96.4%). The most frequent academic misconduct was “asking friend to mark the proxy (84.45%)” and the least frequent reported misconduct was “using cell phone for exchange of answers (14.25%).” The difference of academic misconduct among students of public and private sector medical college students was significant (p<0.001). The academic misconduct was also significantly different (p=0.005) among students from rural and urban residential backgrounds. Conclusion: Academic misconduct was found a serious problem among medical students studying in public and private sector medical colleges of Punjab, Pakistan.

This study investigates the students’ perceptions regarding their voices towards improvement in learning at public and private sector universities in Pakistan. These voices are collected by the Quality Enhancement Cells of the varsities through either technological tools or other ways. To understand how this data is utilized, a self-constructed and validated tool was utilized to get information about four categories; understanding of the term student voices, inquiry of learning process; university facilitation for best learning and implementation of student voices. Using purposive sampling technique, a survey of 112 under graduate students from four fields of studies (social sciences, natural sciences, business administrations and languages) from a Public and Private Sector University each from District Lahore was conducted. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 22, and t-test and chi-square was performed to measure the difference in institutional facilitation of public and private sector universities. One-way ANOVA was applied to check the effects of student’s status in the class on the inquiry of learning process. The study indicated statistically significant effect of public and private sector on students’ perceptions regarding institutional facilitations for learning improvement. The study also reported the significant effects of student’s status on the inquiry of learning process. It is suggested that further studies need to explore how and where the students’ voices are being used for planning, assessment and course development. This paper examined the influence of personality related factors pertinent to perceived behavioral control in the context of theory of planned behavior.  Moreover, a comparative analysis was executed to see the variance in the effect of the selected factors with respect to sector of employment in Pakistan. Offline and online survey data was collected from multiple cities across Pakistan using purposive and convenience sampling technique. Regression analysis was run to analyze the data. The findings revealed that the degree of creativity influencing hybrid entrepreneurial intentions varies between public and private sector employees in Pakistan. However, Self-efficacy impacts such intentions approximately in the similar manner in the two sectors of employment.  The findings highlight interesting area where public organizations lack as compared to private organizations in terms of creativity of employees. This study extends the body of knowledge on hybrid entrepreneurship in Pakistani settings. This research is among the initial endeavors which undertake a comparative analysis of public and private sector employees towards their hybrid entrepreneurial intentions.

Background : In Pakistan, the performance of the university athletes is not satisfactory with reference to preparedness for such kind of athletes to compete in international level. Therefore, this study intends to focus upon the role of proper coaching and training as factor in the production and preparedness of university level athletes to participate at international level sports. Purpose: The main purpose of the current study was to investigate the existence of coaching and training as factor influencing sport participation and performance of the athletes at universities level. Material : The total 671 athletes and 31 director sports were selected from both public and private sector universities as sample through random sampling technique. Data was collected through Self-administered, Likert type questionnaire. Results: Our results revealed that improper coaching and training affect sport performance of the athletes both in public and in private sector universities. Furthermore, the influence of coaching and training were found more at private sector universities in comparison with public sector universities. Also, there were no significant gender-wise (male, female) as well as category-wise (director sports, athletes) responsive differences were observed. Conclusion: It was concluded that improper coaching and deficit facilities, lack of responsible coaching, negative reinforcement and unavailability of trained coaches negatively affect the sports performance of athletes. In addition, insulting, shouting, verbal abusing of coaches and trainers, as well as discrimination and nepotism hinder sports activities at universities.
