This study aimed to find out empirical data, to see using picture strategy effective in improving students’ reading skill at seventh-grade student of SMP Negeri 8 Seluma. The sample of this study was 62 students taken from the first grade of SMP Negeri 8 Seluma, the students were 31 students of VII-A, as experiment class and 31 students from VII-B, as control class. The method which was used in this study was a quantitative method and the design used in this study was an experiment design. The data collected in this research were analyzed by using t-test. According to the result of statistical calculation, the obtained value of (t-observation) is 2.67 and the value of “tt” (t table) from the df (60) on the degree of significance of 5% is 2.01. Comparing to the with each value of the degree of significance, the writer finds 2.67 > 2.04. So too is higher than tt or to > tt. The finding of this study it can be concluded that using the picture in teaching reading skill is quite a success by using Picture. It is not only effective to lead students to feel more interesting and enjoy doing activity in the class but also it can give the students the opportunities to be active in teaching a Reading skill.

The development of a teaching material must be based on the analysis of student needs. Development of teaching materials have to be able to answer or solve problems or difficulties in learning. This study aims to know the development of writing folk poetry teaching material according to the materials expert team with copy the master technique for seventh grade student of junior high school 1 Rantau Selatan, in Labuhan Batu District. This study was conducted by using Probability Sampling technique. The result shows that all teachers and students need modules in the learning process. Teaching material products developed in folk poetry writing materials with copy the master learning technique for seventh grade students of junior high school 1 Rantau Selatan meet the requirements and are appropriate to use based on the validation of material experts and design experts.

This research is based on the students’ motivation in studying English. It intends to prove that students can improve their motivation and it is seen in their achievement in their study. The purpose of this research is to prove that this method is effective in order to improve students’ motivation to learn English. This research is conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Bitung. The subject of this research is a seventh-grade student of SMP Negeri 11 Bitung consisted of 24 students. The design of this research is a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data are collected through multiple choice as an instrument and with questionnaires and interviews to support the data. In analyzing the data writers use percentage formula. The result of this research shows that the score of the post-test is higher (72.09%) than the score of the pre-test (44.16%). Based on the fact of the result of this research, it can be concluded that the Audio-lingual method is effective to be applied in class to improve students’ motivation in studying English. Keywords: Teaching; Motivation; Audio-lingual method.

Abstrak The objectives of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant effect of the using Think-Pair and Share technique at seventh grade students’ reading comprehension of Junior High School Satu Atap Bertam. This research was conducted at first grade students of Junior high school Satu Atap Bertam. This school is located in Muaro Jambi, there are two classes of seventh grade students, and this school uses school based curriculum. In conducting the research, the writer used the experimental research, and the design of the experimental research was a quasi-experimental research. The result of the research found two things: First, the writer has computed the two means score by using t -test formula; the value of t-test was higher than the value of t-table. It indicated that there was a different on the students’ reading comprehension that was taught by using Think Pair and Share technique. Second, the result of the analysis indicated there was a significant difference between the students’ reading comprehension taught by using Think Pair and Share technique and those who were not. The research was conducted at the first grade of English Teaching Department Madiun in the academic year of 2012/2013. The research method was quasi experimental research. The population in this research was the first grade students of English Teaching Department of IKIP PGRI Madiun. The writer used cluster random sampling to get the sample. The sample consists of 70  students which are divided into two classes, IA consisting 35 students as a control class and IB consisting 35 students as an experimental class. The instruments used to collect the data were reading test to get the score of reading skill and questionnaire to get the score of students’  motivation. Before the instruments were used, the tryout was done to know the validity and reliability of instruments. The writer analyzed the data  in  term  of  their  frequency  distribution,  normality,  and  homogeneity.  Then,  the  data  were analyzed by using multifactoral analysis 2X2, then followed by Tukey test. The findings in this research lead to some conclusions: (1) MURDER is more effective than DM for teaching reading; (2) The  students  having  high  motivation  have  better  reading  skill  than  the  students  having  low motivation; and (3) There is an interaction between teaching methods and students’ motivation for teaching reading. MURDER is suitable for students having high motivation and DM is suitable for students having low motivation.

The objective of the study was to get the empirical data about the effect of using song on students’ speaking skill at the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 Mila, Pidie. The method of this study was quantitative method. To get the sample, researcher used random sampling as the technique. The sample of this study were class VIII.B as the experimental class and VIII.A as the control class. Both of the class were consisted of 22 students. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted pre test and post test by asking students singing songs. In the control class, the result of pre test(x1) score was 1285. The result of post test(x2) score was 1462. The gained(dx) both of pre test and post test was 182. The mean(Mx) score was 8,2. in the experimental class, the result of pre test(y1) score was 1190. The result of post test(y2) score was 1608. The gained(dy) both of pre test and post test was 418. The mean(My) score was 19. The testing of hypothesis was analyzed using t-test formula. The result ttest (t0) both of the classes was 3,14. The result of this study showed that there was significant difference on students’ speaking skill that was taught by using English song. In the table of significance, it could be seen on the significance degree or ? = 0.05 and df=42. The ttable (t095(42))=2,68. Then, by comparing the result t0 is bigger than ttable, that is 3.14 2,68. The hypothesis (Ha)  was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It can be concluded that the using of English song was effective in teaching speaking.Key words: Speaking, English song.
