An integral feature and an urgent task of the modern education system is the use of digital products in educational practice. The forced implementation of mass distance learning in the period 2020-21 showed both the advantages and disadvantages of digital learning and set new horizons for optimizing this process. In May-June 2021, a study consisting of two parts was conducted: 1) an online survey of teachers of the general education system in order to determine the ideas about the advantages and risks for students when using digital products in educational practice; 2) an online survey of adolescent students in order to determine their ideas and experience of using digital products in the learning process. The sample consisted of 482 adolescents aged 13-15 years; 147 teachers of basic education with work experience from 3 to 23 years. Online surveys were conducted anonymously in the form of questionnaires using Google Forms. It was found that 80% of teachers and 98% of students highly appreciate the need to use digital products in educational practice. The majority of teachers noted the predominance of advantages provided by digital products as opposed to risks, the same idea was revealed in the survey of students. Conclusions are drawn about the similarities and differences in the understanding of teachers and students of the goals, forms and advantages of using digital educational products. For example, teachers believe that digital products should be used to copy educational materials and perform independent work tasks; they do not welcome their use during the lesson, which, on the contrary, is the main goal for students. The revealed discrepancies in the views of teachers and students regarding the goals, advantages and risks of using digital products makes the question of finding ways to coordinate and optimize relevant.

Nowadays, the ability of the higher education system to adapt to external conditions is facing the challenge of online transformation and digitalization against the background of changes in the format of social relations in the direction of greater pluralism, demassification of information sources, channels and recipients. The relevance of the study lies in the need to assess the consequences of the transition to online communication of teachers and students in order to identify new functional / dysfunctional effects of digitization of the educational environment. The paper represents the results of an online survey (spring – summer of 2020), when the pandemic of the new coronavirus led to the transition to distance learning. The survey was conducted among students of Russian and German universities to identify the attitude of students to online education. Possible unintentional consequences of digitalization of the educational environment were identified. On the basis respondents’ answers, the authors have analyzed emotional attitude of Russian and German students to the compulsory transition to online learning as well as their assessments of its positive and negative aspects. The authors provide ratio of the advantages and disadvantages of online learning in the perception of Russian and German students, highlight some side effects of online communication between teachers and students, as well as the concerns of students caused by the transition to a new communication format. According to students of Russian and German universities, online communication is not beneficial for the quality of education. The increased time spent in front of the computer screen is considered harmful. Besides, students in both countries are concerned with the weakening of social ties and the loss of social contacts.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to history's most significant educational disruption, affecting nearly 1.6 billion students in more than 190 countries and all continents. Closures of schools and other learning spaces have impacted 94 per cent of the world's student population, up to 99 per cent in low and lower-middle-income countries (UESCO CONCEPT, 2020). Like all countries in the world, Armenia has not escaped the damage caused by the pandemia. The impetus for the implementation of such a program has come from the initiative of the UNESCO's Associated Schools Network (ASPnet), which aims to raise awareness in the current COVID_19 epidemic and to study the education processes and conditions, quality of education, as well as advantages and disadvantages of distance learning in the general education system. This study aimed to contribute to achieving the 4th goal of sustainable development in the general education system in pandemic conditions. During the program, students were introduced to the difficulties and benefits of hybrid and distance learning, the importance of participation, the opportunity to self-learn, and the need for empathy and mutual assistance during COVID-19. UNESCO Associated and UNESCO Partner schools have been selected for participation in the research. These schools have actively participated in the previous projects implemented by UNESCO and have had involvement in different national and international projects. The project results showed that learning is more effective with the parallel introduction of distance and face-to-face (the traditional style) learning. Hybrid learning has ensured high student performance by solving modern organizational problems and using modern information technologies.

Teacher and student perceptions of using technology enhanced learning (TEL) in higher education have received growing attention, particularly during COVID-19, however existing studies are mainly disciplinespecific. This study adopts a holistic cross-disciplinary approach. It compares teacher and student perceptions on defining TEL, promotors and barriers for its use, and solutions offered for better use of TEL in the future. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from an Australian university. A total of 75 teachers and 48 students completed an online survey, and of these participants, 24 teachers and 29 students participated in follow-up focus group interviews that included Kahoot! surveys. Quantitative results show that teacher and student perceptions on TEL were generally aligned except that self-reported technology savviness and confidence was rated higher than how students and staff rated each other. Qualitative analyses reveal that both teachers and students identified the main promoters for TEL as being: modern and expected in higher education, while being equalising, efficient, engaging, authentic, collaborative and flexible. The common barriers for using TEL were identified as fear, time, organisational culture, knowledge and technical/support issues, along with the perceived pitfalls of distraction, and superficial student learning. Solutions offered for TEL in the future from staff focused on the institution and a desire for strategic, pedagogical and holistic approaches, while students focussed on the accessibility, flexibility and collaborative potential of TEL. This cross-discipline pre-COVID-19 study of TEL perceptions offered by teachers and students has contributed to knowledge in this area by identifying barriers and solutions for TEL common to all disciplines that have the potential to be applied to whole of institution strategic approaches for the more effective use of TEL in teaching and learning in higher education. Student accessibility to TEL and the development of pedagogically sound digital learning resources bringing together educational developers and discipline experts are of particular relevance during and post-COVID-19.

The education of gifted students is one of the areas of differentiated education, the main goal of which is to study people with special/particular abilities. The problem of talent is now becoming more and more relevant. This is primarily due to the need of society to develop creative personalities. The uncertainty of the modern environment requires not only a high level of human activity, but also his skills and ability to behave in a non-standard way. It is obvious that the early identification, teaching and education of gifted students is one of the key challenges in improving the education system. However, insufficient psychological teachers’ preparation/readiness to work with children, who behave and think in a non-standard way, leads to inadequate assessment of their personal characteristics and all activities. In January-March 2021, a qualitative study was conducted, in which 10 teachers of general education schools participated. Data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analysed using the content analysis method. It has been found that the majority of teachers are able to describe gifted students, trust their competence to identify them. It has been revealed that certain differences exist between the schools analysed. Some schools systematically and qualitatively educate the gifted, while others lack common agreements on the education of the gifted, there is no system, support for teachers and students. Due to the different conditions, not all gifted students receive appropriate support, and the ongoing programmes accept a limited number of students, which creates a problem of access to the quality education of the gifted. Such situation may have arisen due to the lack of a clear state strategy for the education of gifted students, and educational guidelines for schools and teachers. It is obvious that in order to improve the quality of gifted students’ education, it is necessary to update educational documents, that regulate gifted students’ education and create a unified Lithuanian students’ education system based on positive examples of schools and many years of experience. Keywords: education system, gifted students, semi-structured interviews, qualitative research

Few studies have been conducted in Greece focusing on the inclusion of pupils with Intellectual Disability (ID) in general classes. The aim of this quantitative study was to explore the attitudes of Special Education Teachers (SETs or SET) towards the inclusion of pupils with ID in general classes. A structured questionnaire was sent out. It consisted of 10 demographic questions and of 6 structured closed-ended questions about the inclusion of this group of pupils in general classes, using a 5-point Likert scale. The study sample consisted of 150 SETs [129 (86%) females and 21 (14%) males]. The questionnaire data were analysed via descriptive and inferential statistics (SPSS version 21). The results of the research showed that the majority of SETs had a positive attitude towards the fact that the special and general education teacher should jointly adapt the classroom according to the needs of the pupil with ID and that inclusive education is appropriate for these pupils. The SETs had a neutral to positive attitude about whether pupils with ID should be educated in general settings with pupils without disabilities and whether they should be removed less frequently from general education settings in order to be given more help with their difficulties. Finally, there were some dependent variables that played a major role in participants' responses, such as education, work experience, work and the structure of employment. In conclusion, SETs point out that they are in favour of the inclusion of pupils with ID. Finally, the results of the study are discussed.

Article visualizations:

Mathematics as a mandatory subject for maturaexams needs to be taken by all high school students, including those with visual impairments. Naczelna Izba Kontroli (or Supreme Audit Office) reported in 2012 that 45% of Polish schools had inadequate learning material for learners with disabilities. It seemed prudent to investigate whether teachers and students have options to choose from. Furthermore the author implies that for any existing digital learning aids to be effective, the best format should be established. Available solutions usually have a combination of input and output methods ranging from visual, auditory to tactile or vibro-tactile systems. The author also discusses advantages and disadvantages of traditional versus digital learning aids and teachers' views of available accessible math instructional solutions.
