The education of gifted students is one of the areas of differentiated education, the main goal of which is to study people with special/particular abilities. The problem of talent is now becoming more and more relevant. This is primarily due to the need of society to develop creative personalities. The uncertainty of the modern environment requires not only a high level of human activity, but also his skills and ability to behave in a non-standard way. It is obvious that the early identification, teaching and education of gifted students is one of the key challenges in improving the education system. However, insufficient psychological teachers’ preparation/readiness to work with children, who behave and think in a non-standard way, leads to inadequate assessment of their personal characteristics and all activities. In January-March 2021, a qualitative study was conducted, in which 10 teachers of general education schools participated. Data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analysed using the content analysis method. It has been found that the majority of teachers are able to describe gifted students, trust their competence to identify them. It has been revealed that certain differences exist between the schools analysed. Some schools systematically and qualitatively educate the gifted, while others lack common agreements on the education of the gifted, there is no system, support for teachers and students. Due to the different conditions, not all gifted students receive appropriate support, and the ongoing programmes accept a limited number of students, which creates a problem of access to the quality education of the gifted. Such situation may have arisen due to the lack of a clear state strategy for the education of gifted students, and educational guidelines for schools and teachers. It is obvious that in order to improve the quality of gifted students’ education, it is necessary to update educational documents, that regulate gifted students’ education and create a unified Lithuanian students’ education system based on positive examples of schools and many years of experience. An integral feature and an urgent task of the modern education system is the use of digital products in educational practice. The forced implementation of mass distance learning in the period 2020-21 showed both the advantages and disadvantages of digital learning and set new horizons for optimizing this process. In May-June 2021, a study consisting of two parts was conducted: 1) an online survey of teachers of the general education system in order to determine the ideas about the advantages and risks for students when using digital products in educational practice; 2) an online survey of adolescent students in order to determine their ideas and experience of using digital products in the learning process. The sample consisted of 482 adolescents aged 13-15 years; 147 teachers of basic education with work experience from 3 to 23 years. Online surveys were conducted anonymously in the form of questionnaires using Google Forms. It was found that 80% of teachers and 98% of students highly appreciate the need to use digital products in educational practice. The majority of teachers noted the predominance of advantages provided by digital products as opposed to risks, the same idea was revealed in the survey of students. Conclusions are drawn about the similarities and differences in the understanding of teachers and students of the goals, forms and advantages of using digital educational products. For example, teachers believe that digital products should be used to copy educational materials and perform independent work tasks; they do not welcome their use during the lesson, which, on the contrary, is the main goal for students. The revealed discrepancies in the views of teachers and students regarding the goals, advantages and risks of using digital products makes the question of finding ways to coordinate and optimize relevant.

The aim of this article is to describe the basic parameters of a value-oriented approach to assessing the education results as a possible basis for the methodology for assessment of the educational work in the general system of education. The key methods we used were content analysis of text sources, cross-reference analysis, comparative analysis, and humanitarian examination of juristic documents. The interpretation of education as a unity of teaching and upbringing for the state as a key subject of education, which forms the requirements for the results and organization of the educational process, sets the task of assessing personal, subject and metasubject educational results. The philosophy of education faces a challenge regarding the determination of the expediency of assessing educational results, the conceptual basis of assessment, fixing the orientation of assessment on the conditions of educational organzations' activities, and (or) on the results achieved by students. A practical managerial task is to develop an attitude towards using formalized procedures and methods for assessing educational results. The article proposes a value-oriented approach to assessing the educational work in the general education system of the Russian Federation based on an analysis of key regulatory documents of the Russian education system, the interpretation of upbringing as a process of forming value-semantic attitudes. The approach is based on identifying three main groups of value orientations to build a possible system of indicators that fix educational results: "Value orientations related to life, health and safety"; "Value orientations of social interaction"; "Value orientations of personal development". Values are an essential element in regulating human behavior, which guides the process of defining goals and choosing the means to achieve them. Values acquire a functional character in value orientations and can serve as indicators of education results at the level of students as a collective subject. It seems impossible to single out the contribution of individual actors to the output of education and to avoid contradictions between the value-semantic attitudes that exist in the space of modern culture. For the education system, the subject of assessing the quality of upbringing as a purposeful process can be both the quality of the organization of upbringing work and the outcomes of upbringing efforts. The results of education as a manifestation of value orientations in the activities of students can be considered based on quantitative and qualitative indicators, which is significant for making managerial decisions at different levels.

Abstract This poster provides an overview of the aims, methods, and emergent findings from an ongoing five-year NIA-funded project (R01AG062310) examining meaningful engagement and quality of life among assisted living (AL) residents with dementia. The overall goal of this project is to determine how opportunities for meaningful engagement can best be recognized, created, and maintained for individuals with different dementia types and varying levels of functional ability. Guided by grounded theory, this qualitative study will involve 12 diverse AL communities in and around Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Presently, our interdisciplinary team is collecting data in four communities using ethnographic observations, semi-structured interviews, and resident record review. We are studying daily life in each community, following 30 resident participants, and actively recruiting and interviewing their formal and informal care partners. Based on ongoing analysis, we offer key emergent findings. First, meaningful engagement is highly individualized and dynamic. Differing personal interests, along with wide variations in cognitive and physical abilities, can present challenges for AL community staff and other care partners when trying to recognize what constitutes meaningful engagement for residents. Second, multiple complex factors interplay to shape the experience of meaningful engagement among persons living with dementia, such as personal characteristics, care partner background and training, AL community design and philosophy, and state/corporate regulations. Finally, flexibility and ‘meeting the resident where they are at’ appear to be critical to identifying and fostering meaningful engagement for persons living with dementia. We discuss the implications of these preliminary findings for translation, dissemination, and future research.

The purpose of the present study was to provide a reasonably accurate estimate of the prevalence of one type of “hidden gifted” population (gifted underachievers) and to identify some of the key academic and personal characteristics that define this group. Study participants were selected from 19 elementary, junior, and senior high schools in a large Western Canadian urban school district. A formula was used to identify grades 4, 7, and 10 students whose measured intellectual potential was 120 or higher and who demonstrated a significant achievement-potential discrepancy. Out of a total of 80 prospective students, a final sample of 58 students was administered the Woodcock-Johnson Psychoeducational Battery-Revised (WJPB-R), the Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale (PHSCS), and Thinking About My School (TAMS). Results of a MANOVA and discriminant analysis indicate that there was a significant interaction effect between gender and school level and a significant grade-level effect. Major findings were: (a) achievement scores on the WJPB-R were higher than their course grades; (b) there was a significant decline in attitudes toward school for this group of students at the junior high level, particularly for females; and (c) overall achievement declined as students progress from grade 4 to grades 7 and 10.

In the present study, the attitudes of teachers and students regarding different teachers' characteristics were investigated. The questionnaire, written by the investigator, consists of 25 statements and three open-ended questions. The statements relate to four categories: knowledge, didactic ability, personal characteristics, and sociability. The sample consists of 140 students from the department of behavioral sciences, 31 teachers of gifted students, as well as 52 teaching regular classes. The sample as a whole attributed great importance to expertise in the field and to didactic ability. The sample attributed slightly less significance to the ability to create a pleasant atmosphere in class, creativity, the ability to transform the student into an independent learner, the ability to individualize and differentiate the teaching, and flexibility. In general, the students attributed less importance to all the categories. The teachers of gifted students attributed more significance to the personal characteristics of the teacher, while the teachers in the regular classes attrributed more to discipline.

Studies show that Tehran is one of the most polluted cities in the world. This pollution is more due to the traffic of cars. According to statistics, Tehran only had 3 days of clean air in 2012 and 2013. The consumption of low-grade petroleum products by non-standard vehicles manufactured with old technol- ogy has caused air pollution to the city in the absence of an efficient public transport system as well as inefficient management. The results suggest that transition from this dilemma is possible through efficient laws, proper man- agement, the use of world-wide knowledge and culture and general education from the basic levels. Obviously, solving this problem will directly affect the quality of life of citizens, and its effects can be seen in the economic, health, environmental and social spheres. The indirect effects of the crisis can be predicted in economic growth and development, and even in the promotion of national security (at a high level).

This study focusses on the views of students in learning grade 11 mathematics in terms of their needs and aspirations regarding access to high-level mathematics teaching and learning opportunities. Students who participated in this study (88 grade 11 Namibian students) were identified as having learning difficulties by their mathematics teachers, but these students did not (themselves)consider that they had difficulties. The author attempts to understand why students believed they do not have difficulties in learning mathematics. A qualitative method was employed, and the students were investigated via semi-structured interviews. The transcripts were analysed using an interpretational analysis. This study revealed that students display interest in learning mathematics and that they tend to feel comfortable with the subject despite certain influencing factors. The students’ perceptions are that their learning processes were negatively affected by aspects of systemic factors, teachers’ and students’ own factors, and access to learning resources. The students feel that they lack high-level access to teaching and learning, and this limits their potential for achieving the level at which they are expected to perform and be academically successful. In addition to the implications that emerged, this study makes recommendations on what should be done to address the negative factors perceived by the students.

This research was aimed to determine the readability of Biology School Electronic Book (BSE) for 10th grade. The research was conducted in MAN 13 Jakarta. The method of this research was descriptive. Population of this research were all biology BSE of 10th  SMA/MA and all student of 10th MA in South Jakarta. Sampling was done by purposive sampling. Book sample found only one title of biology BSE class X SMA/MA which is used in MA of South Jakarta. The researched texts were texts which had been studied in 1st to 5th chapter. One chapter was represented by one text, so it was gotten five texts. Student samples were taken by MA which used biology BSE that was MAN 13 Jakarta. The measurements of readability used cloze test propositions and formula of fry graph. The results of analysis showed that readability biology BSE based cloze test proposition were all of the texts included to high level. And the results of readability based on the fry graph showed that one text was appropriate for class 10th SMA/MA, the two texts were too easy and two texts were too difficult for class 10th SMA/MA. This research showed the quality of textbooks in terms of readability, in order to be consideration for teachers and students in selecting high quality textbooks. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian deskriptif. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh BSE Biologi kelas X SMA/MA serta seluruh siswa kelas X MA di Jakarta Selatan. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan purposive sampling. Sampel buku hanya ditemukan satu BSE Biologi kelas X SMA/MA yang digunakan di MA Jakarta Selatan. Teks yang diteliti adalah teks yang telah dipelajari pada materi bab 1 sampai bab 5. Satu bab diwakili oleh satu teks, sehingga didapat lima teks yang diteliti. Sampel siswa diambil berdasarkan MA yang menggunakan BSE Biologi yaitu MAN 13 Jakarta. Pengukuran keterbacaan dilakukan menggunakan tes rumpang proposisi dan grafik fry. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa keterbacaan BSE Biologi berdasarkan tes rumpang proposisi adalah seluruh  teks termasuk kategori tinggi. Serta hasil keterbacaan berdasarkan grafik fry adalah satu teks termasuk cocok untuk kelas X SMA/MA, dua teks terlalu mudah dan dua teks terlalu sulit untuk kelas X SMA/MA. Penelitian ini menunjukkan kualitas buku teks dari segi keterbacaan, agar menjadi pertimbangan bagi guru dan siswa dalam memilih buku teks pelajaran yang berkualitas baik.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to history's most significant educational disruption, affecting nearly 1.6 billion students in more than 190 countries and all continents. Closures of schools and other learning spaces have impacted 94 per cent of the world's student population, up to 99 per cent in low and lower-middle-income countries (UESCO CONCEPT, 2020). Like all countries in the world, Armenia has not escaped the damage caused by the pandemia. The impetus for the implementation of such a program has come from the initiative of the UNESCO's Associated Schools Network (ASPnet), which aims to raise awareness in the current COVID_19 epidemic and to study the education processes and conditions, quality of education, as well as advantages and disadvantages of distance learning in the general education system. This study aimed to contribute to achieving the 4th goal of sustainable development in the general education system in pandemic conditions. During the program, students were introduced to the difficulties and benefits of hybrid and distance learning, the importance of participation, the opportunity to self-learn, and the need for empathy and mutual assistance during COVID-19. UNESCO Associated and UNESCO Partner schools have been selected for participation in the research. These schools have actively participated in the previous projects implemented by UNESCO and have had involvement in different national and international projects. The project results showed that learning is more effective with the parallel introduction of distance and face-to-face (the traditional style) learning. Hybrid learning has ensured high student performance by solving modern organizational problems and using modern information technologies.


The unlimited development and extensive use of ICT has helped governments around the world to innovate and improve public services through the advantages of egovernment services. First step of this study was an attempt to measure the quality of e-services provided by the usercentric Kuwait Government Online Portal through investigating the quality standards of e-government services and different quality dimensions of e-government services as identified in the literature. Post examining E-service quality models one model was selected and used to validate the quality of e-services provided by the Kuwait Government Online Portal. A survey was presented to 486 valid participants through an online questionnaire. The result of the survey in general showed a diverse quality results which was around the range of “Neutral”. This could be due to having a large number of diverse e-services provided by more than 60 government agencies all enclosed in the Kuwait Government Online Portal. The second step of this study was to validate the result from the survey through conducting a semi-structured interviews by the authors with three top management officials at the government entity responsible for implementing e-government program in Kuwait. The interviews have revealed interesting insights, namely the existence of strong presence of silo-mentality in government entities which could be the main cause for not achieving integrated e-services. Future work will include studying specific e-services and defining suitable categorization that helps in determining their quality. The model that was used in this study was based on high-level dimensions that needs to be broken down into subdiminutions that could contribute to increasing the accuracy of the results of e-service quality evaluation. In addition, measuring the effect of silo-mentality of the government over the quality of e-services in Kuwait is desirable.
