Noemuti River is a river located in the South Bikomi District with a length of 30 km that is monitored periodically by the North Central East Regency Environmental Service. Information on the results of this monitoring needs to be conveyed as simple information, one of which is in the form of a water quality index. This study aims to calculate the index value of water quality and conduct a sensitivity analysis. This research is a quantitative descriptive study using secondary data in the form of 2016-2018 monitoring results. The parameters included in the calculation of the water quality index are BOD, COD, TSS, Fecal Coliform, and Total Coliform. Data were analyzed using the pollution index formula to get a water quality index value. Sensitivity analysis was carried out with four scenarios, namely removing parameters a) Fecal Coliform b) Total Coliform c) Fecal Coliform and Total Coliform d) TSS. The Noemuti river water quality index value ranges from 0.26-5.28, with the category good quality to moderately polluted. Sensitivity analysis provides a picture of parameters that influences the water quality index value. The fourth scenario is a scenario that causes a change in the water quality index from the category of moderately polluted to lightly polluted on 2017 data in the second and third points. This means that TSS parameters must be considered to improve river water quality. Also, the loss of the Ci / Lij TSS value as the maximum value decreases the water quality index value means the maximum Ci / Lij value is very vital for the pollution index formula. From the results of the study,  it can be concluded that the Noemuti river has been polluted, and TSS is a parameter that needs to be considered in arranging controlling water pollution recommendations.

Abstract This research aims at using a combined water quality index (WQI) and pollution index (PI) to assess and characterize river water quality of Cau River which is one of the longest rivers in the north of Vietnam. Five different water quality and water pollution indices were used including the Water Quality Index (WQI), Comprehensive Pollution Index (CPI), Organic Pollution Index (OPI), Eutrophication Index (EI), and Trace Metal Pollution Index (TPI). The combined water pollution indices show more serious pollution towards the river downstream. In particular, CPI and OPI reveal a high risk of eutrophication. Cluster analysis was applied to classify water monitoring points into different quality groups in order to provide a better understanding of the water status in the river. This study indicates that a combined water quality analysis could be an option for decision making water use purposes while its single index shows the current situation of water quality.

Sungai Jaing diklasifikasi sebagai sungai kelas I (satu). Sungai Jaing is one of the rivers that flows in Tabalong District which has length of 39 km and empties into the Tabalong River. The Jaing watershed has an area of ± 298 km2 of the Barito watershed in South Kalimantan. This river is classified as class I (one) river. Several activities for the coal mining sector, oil and gas sector, industrial sector, plantation and agriculture considered to take over the land function widely surrounding the river. Those activities actually have a potential to reduce the water quality of the river. Field observations found pollutants which are likely to dispose of production waste directly or run off (run off) of production waste into the river. Hence, the purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of Sungai Jaing through determining the status of water quality from Sungai Jaing. The research area was carried out in Sungai Jaing as far as 39 Km in Tabalong District where river water quality was measured and observed at 3 sampling points based on physical, chemical and biological parameters. Quality analysis and determination of water quality status using the STORET method and pollution index method. The results are (1) the parameters of DO, BOD, COD, Fecal coliform and Total Coliform have exceeded Class I river water quality standards according to Governor of South Kalimantan Regulation No. 5 of 2007 stating that the quality of river water is decreasing (2) There is a shift of the water quality status of the Sungai Jaing from upstream to downstream which is characterized by the STORET value and pollution index value which tends to increase based on a river criteria according to PP number 82 of 2001. In addition, STORET value of river jaing is between -108 to -110 with the status of Heavy Pollution quality and the pollution index value (IP) ranges from 4,027 to 4,173 which states that water quality status of the Sungai Jaing is mild pollution.  Keywords : Water Quality, Quality Status, STORET Method, Pollution Index

The use of a large number of water quality indicators increases the costs of streamflow monitoring throughout the time. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) can be considered a promised tool for water resources management, allowing a reduction in the dimensionality of the data and facilitating their analyses. This study aimed to obtain a water quality index (WQI) to characterize the Mantiqueira Range region. Water quality indicators from a sub-basin entirely occupied by Atlantic Forest and from another predominantly occupied by pasture were normalized and used to compose the WQI. The normalized values were submitted to a PCA evaluation and the WQI was then calculated. The Indicators with greatest weight, according to the PCA, were total coliform, nitrate, fecal coliform, chemical oxygen demand and temperature. The Atlantic forest sub-basin presented the best WQI results, demonstrating the importance of the forested environment in the maintenance of water quality in springs of the Mantiqueira Range region.
