While previous studies identify doodling as a useful educational tool, this study sought to determine if doodling can build creative or emotional self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is an individual’s belief in their own capacity to express behaviors necessary to attain specific performance goals. The current study also sought to determine if doodling can be a form of self-care. Research collected was quantitative and qualitative using surveys to measure both creative and emotional self-efficacy along with a doodling activity. Ten participants were recruited through convenience sampling on social media and were included in the study after meeting the inclusion criteria of identifying themselves as a normally functioning adult. Individual times spent on doodling ranged from thirty minutes to three hours. The study took place during the Covid-19 pandemic which impacted the ability to recruit volunteer participants. The researcher collected data from the Emotional Self-Efficacy Scale (ESES) and Creative Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES). The results from this study support the use of doodling in art therapy as well as its effect on an individual’s self-expression and self-efficacy. The research also explores the use of doodling as a form of self-care. Recommendations for future research include expanding the population size and variety, as well as having a facilitator present to guide and witness the process.

Background: self-care behavior is an important thing that needs to be considered by clients with hypertension which consists of several components, namely the use of drugs, low-salt diet, physical activity, smoking, weight management and alcohol consumption. Purpose: to show the factors that influence self-care behavior in clients with hypertension. Method: the database used to identify suitable articles obtained from Scopus, ProQuest and Google Scholar, limited to the last 5 years of publication from 2014 to 2019, English, and fulltext articles. The literature review used the keyword "Self-care behavior, Hypertension". In searching articles used "AND". Only 12 articles met the inclusion criteria. This review was from 12 of these articles. Results: self-care behavior in hypertensive clients were influenced by several factors, namely family support, self-efficacy, knowledge, and spirituality. Conclusion: factors related to self-care behavior and pathways can help health care providers develop and design evidence-based interventions for clients with hypertension. Recommendation: Community nurses understand the factors that influence self-care behavior in hypertensive clients in the community so they are able to provide appropriate nursing care. Simpulan: faktor-faktor yang terkait dengan self-care behavior dan jalurnya dapat membantu penyedia layanan kesehatan mengembangkan dan mendesain intervensi bebasis bukti pada klien dengan hipertensi. Saran: Perawat komunitas memahami faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi self-care behavior pada klien hipertensi di komunitas sehingga mampu memberikan asuhan keperawatan yang tepat. Background. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of increased morbidity and mortality globally. Clinical practice guidelines recommend that individuals with CVD are routinely instructed to engage in self-care including diet restrictions, medication adherence, and symptom monitoring.Objectives. To describe the nature of nurse-led CVD self-care interventions, identify limitations in current nurse-led CVD self-care interventions, and make recommendations for addressing them in future research.Design. Integrative review of nurse-led CVD self-care intervention studies from PubMed, MEDLINE, ISI Web of Science, and CINAHL. Primary studies (n=34) that met the inclusion criteria of nurse-led RCT or quasiexperimental CVD self-care intervention studies (years 2000 to 2012) were retained and appraised. Quality of the review was assured by having at least two reviewers screen and extract all data.Results. A variety of self-care intervention strategies were studied among the male (57%) and Caucasian (67%) dominated samples. Combined interventions were common, and quality of life was the most frequent outcome evaluated. Effectiveness of interventions was inconclusive, and in general results were not sustained over time.Conclusions. Research is needed to develop and test tailored and inclusive CVD self-care interventions. Attention to rigorous study designs and methods including consistent outcomes and measurement is essential.

The development of novel and useful ideas is a process that can be described in multiple steps, including information gathering, generating ideas and evaluating ideas. We evaluated a university course that was developed based on design thinking principles which employ similar steps. Our results show that the course was not effective in enhancing students' creative self-efficacy, the belief that they are able to generate novel and useful ideas. Comparison to previous training approaches lead to conclusions on how to improve the course, and to implications for future research.

Introduction: Multi-morbidity is increasingly recognized to negatively influence self-care behaviors such as dietary adherence in persons living with serious or life-threatening chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) and heart failure (HF). Aim: The aim of this study was to describe demographic, clinical, and psychosocialcorrelates of dietary self-care behaviors in adult patients with T2D and comorbid HF. Methods: The parent study for this secondary analysis was a randomized trial that tested a 6-month integrated self-care intervention for 180 participants with comorbid HF and T2D. Cross-sectional, baseline data was used for the predictive model which included demographic (age, sex, marital status, and education) psychosocial (depression [PhQ-9], self-efficacy [PDSMS], and diabetes knowledge [MDKT]); and clinical variables (years diagnosed with T2D and HF, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification, Charlson comorbidity index (CCI), and implanted cardiac device). The general and specific diet components of the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) were used to measure dietary self-care behaviors. Correlational bivariate and stepwise linear regression analyses were performed to examine correlates of dietary self-care behaviors. Results: Participants mean age was 58 ±11 years and the majority were male (n = 118, 66%) and African American (n = 119, 66%). Charlson comorbidity >2 ( p <0.05) and implanted device ( p <0.05) predicted lower SDSCA general diet score. Diabetes self-efficacy ( p <0.01) predicted higher SDSCA specific diet score while implanted cardiac device ( p <0.05) predicted lower score, collectively explaining 18.2% of the variance in diabetes-specific dietary self-care behavior. Conclusion: Findings suggest that multimorbidity may increase risk for lower diabetes dietary self-care behaviors, particularly those with more advanced HF requiring an implanted device. Future research should focus on how to promote effective self-care behaviors in persons living with multimorbidity as a strategy to improve clinical outcomes and enhance quality of life.

Creativity can be evaluated from learners’ internal motivation and learning outcomes. Implementation of innovative teaching methods by teachers can increase students’ learning motivation. In this study, convenience sampling was employed to select 54 students from a packaging design course; they were randomly grouped into 12 creative teams. Design thinking was integrated into the packaging design course, and its influence on the students’ creative self-efficacy and flow experience was investigated through empirical research. A pretest–posttest design was adopted to perform teaching experiments. In the pretest, conventional lectures were employed, whereas in the posttest, design thinking teaching was incorporated into the course. Packaging design practice spanned 4 weeks. The experiment results revealed that in the 12 creative teams, the students’ creative self-efficacy and flow experience were superior in the posttest than in the pretest. The results also demonstrated that design thinking improved the self-efficacy of students with low creativity tendency as well as the creative flow experience of all students regardless of creativity tendency.

In response to calls for multilevel research examining individual and meso-level processes to understand how exploitation and exploration dynamics play out in teams, we propose that individual in-role performance (cf. exploitation) and creativity (cf. exploration) are associated with team exploitation and exploration climate respectively, and this influence is moderated by domain specific performance and creative self-efficacy respectively. Studying 317 engineers in 70 teams across three national regions, we theorize and find domain-specific evidence that when individual self-efficacy is high, team climate has diminishing performance (exploitation climate × performance self-efficacy) and creative (exploration climate × creative self-efficacy) benefits. By simultaneously studying creativity and performance, our study helps understand the differences and communalities in the drivers of those outcomes in identifying both the domain-specific character of these influences and the similarity in how these influences play out.

Previous research has suggested that employees’ proactive personality can enhance their creative performance. However, studies that address the underlying mechanism of the effect of proactive personality on creative performance have been scarce. Additionally, contextual factors that could serve as useful conditions have received insufficient academic attention. Therefore, the present study proposed that creative self-efficacy serves as a mediator and psychological safety serves as a moderator in the positive relationship between employees’ proactive personality and their creative performance. The results of a large-scale survey revealed that a proactive personality was positively associated with creative performance. Furthermore, we found that the positive relationship between a proactive personality and creative performance was positively mediated by creative self-efficacy and further strengthened by psychological safety. Additionally, we found that psychological safety influenced the mediating role of creative self-efficacy in the link between employees’ proactive personality and creative performance. We have discussed theoretical and practical implications with future research directions.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease that can be controlled but, it can cause various complications if the patient unable to manage the disease independently. The ability of a DM patient should be supported by his belief to perform certain behaviors known as self-efficacy. Self-efficacy assessments need to be assess the extent to which DM patients are confident that they can deal with diabetes. Several self-efficacy diabetes assessment instruments have been developed to assess the activity of self-care diabetics. The purpose of this literature study is to identify instruments that can be used to assess the self-efficacy of DM type II patients. Methods: The databases used in this literature review are PubMED, Wiley Online Lybrary, Science Direct, Google Scholar and secondary search. Results: There are 15 articles meet the inclusion criteria. Several research results show the development of DMSES instrument to measure the confidence of DM patients in doing self-care activities of DM patients. DES instrument focuses on patient empowerment and education programs and DSES instrument is a development of self-efficacy assessment of chronic diseases. This instrument can be applied in clinical and research practice but must through an adaptation process according condition and culture of the patient and respondent.

Product dissection is a popular educational tool in engineering design due to its ability to help students understand the components and sub-components of a product, provide inspiration for new design ideas, and aid in product redesign. While prior research has investigated how dissecting a product before idea generation impacts the creative output of the ideation session, these studies failed to look at the types of ideas generated before dissection or how the type of product dissected impacts this. In addition, few studies have looked at how creative self-efficacy (CSE), or one’s belief in their creative ability, is influenced by these intervention activities. Thus, the current study was developed to respond to these research voids through an exploratory study with engineering design students. The results of the study suggest that virtual dissection helps students generate a larger variety of ideas after the activity at the physical principle, working principle, and embodiment levels, and that the complexity of the dissected product impacts variation at the embodiment level. In addition, CSE was not affected by the dissection activity. These results strongly support the utilization and implementation of dissection practices in engineering education as a means for aiding students in the expansion of the solution space in the early stages of design. They also bring attention to the need to explore the exact cause-effect relationship between innovation interventions and student confidence gains in their creative abilities.

Purpose – This paper aims to identify factors that could be related to creative self-efficacy. Specifically, this article examines three different levels of factors as determinants to creative self-efficacy: leader-related, self-related and job-related. After careful consideration, this study selected one determinant to represent each of the three factors. Transformational leadership represented the leader-related factors, learning orientation represented the self-related factors and autonomy represented the job-related factors of creative self-efficacy. This article also aims to examine the effect of creative self-efficacy on what is called innovative activities. Design/methodology/approach – Drawing from theory the study presents a conceptual model of the aforementioned relationships. The data collection is based on a survey with a sample of employees in hospitality organizations. Findings – The findings reveal that the job-related factors (autonomy) were the most influential determinants to creative self-efficacy, followed by the self-related factors (learning orientation) and finally leader-related factors (transformational leadership). Furthermore, creative self-efficacy has a positive effect on innovative activities. Creative self-efficacy was found to have a mediating role between the three determinant variables and the effect variable. Research limitations/implications – This study is limited to a selection of three different factors as determinants to creative self-efficacy and only one effect variable. Future research should focus on other variables that may be related to creative self-efficacy. This article suggests three main areas related to creative self-efficacy that future research should specifically focus on. Practical implications – This study stresses the importance for managers to understand that creative self-efficacy is an important motivational factor for behavioural outcomes such as innovative activities. Moreover, it stresses the need for managers to give employees the necessary freedom to act on the basis of self-determination in their job role. Simultaneously, it points to the importance of building a climate and culture that triggers an individual learning orientation, increasing the creative capital in hospitality organizations. In general, this study demonstrates that creative self-efficacy may be a key personal attribute in the workplace where innovation is essential and an important aspect of firm's competitive advantage. Originality/value – Creative self-efficacy is a relatively new concept. This study contributes to the understanding of this phenomenon.
