ObjectiveIn England, every death in childhood is reviewed by a local multidisciplinary Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) with the intention of understanding causation and implementing interventions to reduce future deaths. This study aimed to establish how well panels work from the perspective of the paediatricians involved and to ascertain whether they deliver good value and identify areas for improvement.DesignA questionnaire was sent to every CDOP paediatrician in the country (n=93). Questions focused on the quality of CDOP case discussions as well as examples of effective and significant recommendations. Responses were analysed using simple quantitative and qualitative methods.Results84/93 (90%) of the paediatricians responded. Among the respondents, 60 (71%) believe that investment in CDOPs is offering good value, 73 (87%) feel that case discussions are rigorous and consistent and over 90% believe that the correct issues are emerging from discussions. However, responders noted many areas for improvement: 40 (48%) suggested devolving the discussion of specialist deaths (eg, neonates) to hospital-based review meetings or holding themed meetings with invited specialists, 11 (13%) suggested filtering out cases where learning is unlikely before full CDOP meetings and 13 (15%) called for national integration and analysis of data.ConclusionsIn this time of economic austerity it is vital that the CDOPs add value to the invested resources. Although CDOP paediatricians feel that panels are working well, there is scope for improvement through enhancing relationships with commissioning bodies, aggregate review and analysis of CDOP data at a national level and consideration of specialist and/or network review of certain categories of deaths such as cardiac surgery, oncology and neonates.

Interaction and discussion on Twitter in the Spanish elections of May 2015: technological promise or virtual reality? Abstract In this paper, we take a position regarding the debate on the transformation of political communication in virtual environments and the role of new parties in these changes. We analyse whether the election campaigns of PSOE and Podemos on Twitter, before the local and autonomous elections of 2015, exploited the potential of online interaction or if traditional media codes were maintained. To meet the objectives, we use two programmes: one to automatically download tweets, and another to process the data quantitatively. We also apply quantitative and qualitative methods for analysing the results. Keywords: elections, campaign, Twitter, interaction, innovation

Household economics and ‘Sozietät’. Collaborative strategies and economic organisation levels of rural households in Botswana. This article explains that a commonly supported livelihood strategy is not self-evident in rural households of Botswana. On the basis of a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods the term ‘Sozietät’ is developed. The term describes the level of economic organisation and whether there is a collaborative strategy within a household. Individuals participate to different degrees and sometimes even distance themselves from the household they live in. It is assumed that resources flow alongside of responsibility lines which are more or less imperative through cultural norms. In the wake of social change such norms might not be met any more. In this respect especially the role of agricultural production was found to change in the rural villages assessed.

In the dual role of therapist and researcher, working in an NHS Day Hospital with a small group of clients with moderate dementia, my question was simple, yet perplexing: What could I learn from the paradox between the joyful energy of my Dramatherapy group and the intense sadness and confusion that seemed to exist on the periphery? A qualitative, heuristic approach was the most appropriate in respect of ethics and practicality. By using vignettes – in which client names were changed – as opposed to detailed case studies, I required neither written nor ongoing verbal consent – though spoke informally about it with my clients and their carers throughout the process. I followed the six stages of heuristic research described by Clark Moustakas and gathered data using the tools and techniques recommended. I created a personal log book and collated my official session notes on 20 clients seen between January and October 2009. Through the analysis of data, key themes arose: Fear and Stigma, Anger, and Self-Identity. This article may be most relevant to those working creatively with this client group, who find themselves confronted by a paradox of emotions, forced to confront personal fears and limitations. Whilst the need for further research is evident, my small and subjective study meets the minimal requirements of BADth's EPB/PBE guidelines (Dokter and Winn) and could compliment larger-scale studies using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Introduction. The article is devoted to the relations of language, education system and man. The identification of the ontological status of language and education is closely related to their nature and the nature of man as a constantly becoming being. Language is defined as a fundamental condition for the existence of the education system.Materials and methods. The philosophical and pedagogical research used understanding approaches in education, the article is based on the analysis of classical and modern works on the philosophy of language and philosophy of education. Philosophical research has a hermeneutic and existential Foundation, presented in the works of the largest German thinkers M. Heidegger and H.-G. Gadamer. Hermeneutic methodology in the study is combined with dialectical approach.Result. The process of understanding in the framework of hermeneutical methodology appears as a way of being a person and the purpose of the education system. Language appears both as a fact of being (a metaphysical phenomenon) and as a phenomenon of culture. It is proved that the object of philosophical research at the border of philosophy of language and education should be primarily the position of the classics, whose works are devoted to the problem of philosophy of language (M. Heidegger, H.-G. Gadamer, G. G. Shpet, A. F. Losev, A. N. Portnov, F. Kaints, etc.). It is concluded that society needs silence, man-made civilization has created a world of "noise" technology, all fell into the age of digitalization. Both teachers and students are unaccustomed to silence, do not know how and do not want to listen to it.Discussion and conclusion. The article considers the active role of language (language is initiative) in the existence of culture, the importance of language as a fact of existence for human existence. The ontological status of language and the existential concept of education are deduced within the framework of pedagogical hermeneutics.

Abstract: The struggle to uphold the Malay language is at all levels, at the individual level, associations and political organizations. This effort has given a bit of conviction to the younger generation that the struggle to uphold the Malay language is not an easy struggle. It provides a clear picture that the Malay language is believed to be believed to be capable of acting as a national unity tool and capable of raising the common identity among the people since independence. Therefore, the learning and facilitator (PdPc) of Malay should not only emphasize the mastery of the language system and language skills but instead enrich the tradition of thought, value and culture of knowledge capable of bringing the younger generation towards achieving the goal of national unity. Hence, this study aims to explore the potential of language philosophy in Malay language learning and facilitator (PdPc) for national integration. The data collection was carried out through survey method using questionnaire on 200 participants of the study which included teachers in Bahasa Melayu who taught at. (SJKC) and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) in Perak, Kelantan, Penang and Negeri Sembilan. Data analysis is divided into four main themes, namely: (1) Teacher perceptions about the concept of language philosophy in Malay language education, (2) Teacher perceptions on the concept of national integration in relation to Malay education, (3) Teacher skill level in the absorption aspects the element of language philosophy in Malay Language PdPc, and (4) The level of teacher acceptance towards the absorption of the element of the language philosophy in PdPc Bahasa Melayu as a National integration strategy. The findings of the study of the Malay language teachers are very important to policy makers in ensuring the Malay Language PdPc in schools is able to build the value and personality of Malaysia among the various ethnic groups.
