Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an acute infectious disease that causes global outbreaks. The COVID-19 outbreak has forced various sectors to change their approach and daily practice to new alternatives. Dental education is no exception to the effects of this pandemic, which has severely disrupted teaching, learning and clinical activities. The impact of this pandemic on dental education can be classified into different aspects, including academic, practical, research and clinical services. Teaching and learning activities have been transformed into distance learning methods. However, dental educators are still struggling with psychomotor components, including practical and clinical sessions, which are the main course components that are severely affected. This sharing of experience focuses on the effects of the pandemic on the delivery of dental education and the actions taken by the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to ensure continuous learning. The challenges faced by the faculty are overcome with careful planning and discussion through the establishment of specific committees related to various issues, such as online learning and clinical COVID-19 committees. The committees identify any issues, plan the strategies and monitor the implementation of the plan. All actions during the pandemic are closely monitored by managing the faculty and university to ensure implementation of organised and smooth work, good record keeping, and compliance with instructions and guidelines by the authority.

Purpose A growing number of schools are now implementing quality management systems (QMS). As a result, studies are being conducted to assess the educational benefits of these systems and their capacity to identify areas for improvement in school processes and performance. The purpose the present study is to assess the impact of ISO:9001 implementation on teaching-learning processes in the classroom, and in schools with at least three years’ experience of applying this standard. Design/methodology/approach To this end, a questionnaire was administered to a final sample of 2,185 subjects from 80 pre-school, primary and secondary education schools in the regions of Madrid, Castile and León, Andalusia and Valencia (Spain). Findings The results show that ISO:9001 implementation yielded a higher than average impact on teaching-learning processes. Specifically, improvements were observed in the subdomains of tutorials, evaluation and classroom teaching methodologies as a result of implementing this QMS. Originality/value This impact was higher in state-subsidized private schools in Valencia and Andalusia with over nine years’ experience of ISO:9001 in schools with internal funding plans and in those with fewer than 29 teachers on the staff.

Inclusive and quality education can provide nations with the tools to solve global problems. However, some barriers prevent equal access to this education. These obstacles include the lack of basic resources such as electricity and internet availability, which prevents appropriate training in the skills necessary for sustainable community development. Therefore, we have responded with the Solar-Powered Educational Learning Library (SolarSPELL) initiative, which offers a solar-powered digital library and provides an internet-like experience through its offline WiFi network. This educational innovation has been implemented in rural schools across the Pacific Islands, including in some of the more remote islands of Fiji, an area strongly affected by climate change. The objective of the study was to understand the impact of SolarSPELL on teaching and learning about climate change in the schools where it was implemented. This research used a case study method in which quantitative tools were applied to understand the characteristics of the schools and the impact of this educational innovation. The results showed that the SolarSPELL library was an impactful pedagogical resource in the schools where it was implemented. It served as support for teachers and motivated the students, promoted the democratization of knowledge in vulnerable areas, and provided appropriate educational resources to generate knowledge about problem-solving actions that can respond to climate change. The importance of this educational innovation lies in presenting strategies and best practices that help improve the quality of education, making it more inclusive and eliminating barriers to the acquisition of knowledge.

There are at least three areas in which technology can impact education: teaching, learning, and assessment. Teaching, when viewed as communication of information, has been transformed by the technology revolution. Word processing, multimedia, distance learning, and access to the World Wide Web are some prominent examples. The impact of technology on learning, defined as knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or study, has been less dramatic, in part because of our limited understanding of cognitive processes. Some forms of assessment, the collection of evidence of learning, have benefited from technology, such as item analysis of multiple-choice questions. To be effective, the focus on instruction must start with the learner and, from there, consider what should be done to enhance learning. An emphasis on what is technologically appropriate, rather than what is technologically possible, will improve the quality of both teaching and learning.

The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness of a modular approach in teaching and learning to assess students’ performance, achievement and motivation and to decide if a modular approach is more effective than traditional methods while performing an experiment with two groups of students learning English at a technical university. The researchers consider a modular specification to be a technology in which the content is divided into a number of units or modules, each of which is examined separately. A module is considered to be a set of learning opportunities organized around a well-defined topic which contains elements of instruction, specific objectives, learning activities and self-assessment and evaluation using criteria-referenced measurement. This project combines quantitative and qualitative research methods to address the impact of modular teaching, learning and assessment on engineering students. The authors use a unique modular system and their own book on English Grammar.This experiment shows that students of modular syllabuses find it useful and motivating and say that it encourages them to do better on the next modules. At the same time, modular learning and assessment does not remove the stress and workload of traditional approaches. Teachers in the modular system appreciate the better planning opportunity around the exams and the clarity of the focus of their teaching requirements. Still, the approach and the structure of modules used in the experiment requires improvement and development.

Abstract OBJECTIVE Analyze the articulation of students, professors (supervisors of the undergraduate practicum) and nursing professionals in teaching and learning nursing management at graduation in a public university hospital. METHOD This is a study of qualitative approach, anchored in the operative group reference of Pichon-Rivière. Data collection was held between October 2013 and September 2014 and consisted of a self-administered questionnaire, participant observation and focus group. The information was submitted to thematic analysis. RESULTS The thematic analysis of the corpus resulted in four themes: the unknown and the inevitable; in coming and going, attitudes, values and new bonding; the dialogue and ways of acting in the teaching/learning; the emergence of praxis. CONCLUSION The articulation among students, supervisors and nursing professionals occurring in a coming and going of attitudes, values and new bonding, in which the dialogue enables ways of acting in the teaching/learning of nursing management in graduation, allowing the emergence of praxis.

The eLearning instruments that have been researched in the last few years represent a necessity for the Romanian primary school also within the development of the alternative learning sources. These cognitive instruments as D.H. Jonassen names them, are utilized in the USA and are researched in other countries, too (France) in order to be implemented. The aim of this article is to implement and to recommend the utilization of electronic models: text and image processing sheets, presentation sheets, spreadsheets in the teaching­learning process in primary school. According to this aim, the research hypothesis has been issued in keeping with which we anticipate to be able to offer a well thought training in the eLearning field by updating the teaching and learning process with the help of the implementation of a set of electronic models which will increase the intercepting coefficient, the motivation, stimulation, imagination and enthusiasm degree for the learning actors and will redefine the teacher-pupil relation. The main objectives which derive from the hypothesis of our study confine to establishing the impact of electronic models of the eLeaming Set that has been proposed to be implemented on the actors primary school in the teaching-learning process; rendering the teaching-learning process efficient by implementing cognitive models with electronic support; working out an operational guide that contains scientific-practical recommendations and lesson models that utilize PeL; enriching the mathematical thinking. The study sample covers a population that wishes to know, to participate in the implementing of the new technologies. The sample was composed as follows: 121 teachers in primary schools, most of them students of the University in Pite

The place of medical legislation in the university curriculum remains somehow uncertain and should be identified more clearly. A more robust knowledge base on the law is needed to enable medical students to develop sufficient legal competence to manage the challenges of future practice. Further research is needed to identify the most effective methods of teaching, learning and assessing legal knowledge and skills, during and after the completion of initial medical education. An in-depth analysis of resources shows that there is no robust evidence base that evaluates the impact in different curricular structures of the efficient methods in developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed in medical practice of student. Moreover, only a limited number of studies refer to the results and effectiveness of teaching and learning the elements of medical legislation.

Many people have known that Covid-19 has changed the world in all aspects. One of the aspect is education. It has made a lot of changing in transferring knowledge drastically, because lecturing was given online, attendance list was checked by program, examination was done by application. This research will describe about teaching and learning activities during the Pandemic of Covid 19 in Institut Stiami, Jakarta. Data collection was taken by interviewing some students by using zoom, google meet, WhatsApp, SSO (Single Sign On) of Institut Stiami or other Application. WhatsApp and Zoom are the application that often used in the Teaching and Learning Process. One of the biggest problem during online learning is about internet pulse or quota and connection is up and down sometimes. However, most of the students concluded that they enjoy learning online and during pandemic (Covid-19) and the teaching-learning activities ran quite well. During the lesson, some problem appeared such as technology, technical problem, internet connection, communication, etc., but all can be solved

ABSTRACT In 2006, the medical course of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Health of PUC-SP (FCMS of PUC-SP) completely restructured its curriculum and pedagogical project and began to use active teaching/learning methods, centered on problem-based learning. There is often some resistance on the part of the teachers in relation to the changes, depending on the consequences for their daily practice. However, the participation of the teachers and their commitment to reform proposals are fundamental for them to occur and to be continually renewed. In this sense, this study had as objective to evaluate the teachers’ view of the FCMS of the PUC-SP medical course on the changes triggered by the curricular reform; the impact of these changes on their own work, on the quality of the course and on the graduate doctor and, the suggestions to improve the curriculum, as part of the ongoing goal to produce well-trained professionals adapted to the needs of the population and to the health care system. The data were obtained through a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire, sent to the teachers working on the medical course. The second part of the questionnaire, object of this article, was to be answered only by the teachers who were already working before the curricular reform. Of the 178 teachers, 102 answered the questionnaire and, of these, 73 (71.6%) had already worked on the course before the curricular reform and answered the second part of the questionnaire. In general, the teachers have a positive view of the changes triggered by the reform, with emphasis on the active role of the student in the teaching/learning process and the growth provided to the teacher, induced by the pedagogical model chosen. They also consider that there has been an improvement in the quality of the course and the graduate doctor. Although well evaluated, the change to an interdisciplinary model and the deficiencies of the physical structure and equipment made available for the course complicate the work of the teacher. The difficulty in evaluating the student and the lack of a permanent teacher development plan appear as the main problems to be faced in the search for improving the course.

The dental profession is an important segment of human health care services all over the world. Dental schools in Europe and United States have evolved their curriculum to keep abreast with advances in dentistry; like connective tissue biophysics and molecular engineering through an objectively structured and clinically oriented curriculum. However, dental education in our country is still mostly traditional. This article examines the new approaches to teaching and learning in dental schools/colleges that are shaping dental curriculum globally. Articles relating to curricular trends in dental education and advancement in the dental profession published between 2010-2020 were searched in medical search engines. However, few relevant articles published before this period were also consulted. The current trends in dental curricula show new teaching, learning, and assessment methods like small group discussions, case-based learning, competency-based learning, Inquiry-based teaching-learning, and peer-assisted learning. The curricular format is integrated and new innovative assessment techniques like the assessment of multiple systematic reviews (AMSTAR) are being employed. Virtual reality, interdisciplinary teaching, and distributed community models in dental education are being implemented. The emergence of COVID-19 has also affected dental education and as a result, e-learning formats and assessment techniques have become increasingly popular. Dental schools abroad have revamped their curriculum with the advances in newer technologies and research related to dentistry. There is a need to immediately update and redesign the present dental curriculum in our country as well.
