Resumo: Discutimos percepções sobre adolescência de um grupo de professores de ciências que frequentaram um curso de extensão. Para tanto, realizamos uma pesquisa qualitativa em educação com foco no cotidiano escolar que incluiu como instrumentos de pesquisa: material proveniente de videogravação, produções dos professores e anotações da pesquisadora. Na análise, usamos algumas ideias de Moscovici para representações sociais. Constatamos percepções pouco divergentes em relação aos estereótipos de adolescentes difundidos socialmente, ainda que tenham ocorridos avanços (como o reconhecimento de características dos adolescentes, das referências etc.) em direção aos conceitos científicos trabalhados no curso. Esperamos maior atenção sobre adolescência na formação de professores de ciências, posto que, possivelmente, essas percepções estão presentes na forma com que os professores exercem seu trabalho.Palavras-chave: Adolescência; Ensino de Ciências; Formação Continuada de Professores de Ciências Perceptions about adolescence by science teachersAbstract: We discussed perceptions about adolescence of a Science teachers group who attended an extension course. Although, we conducted a qualitative research in education with a focus on school routine, which included as research tools: video recording material, teachers productions and the researcher`s notes. In this analysis, we used some of Moscovici`s ideas for social representations. We found slightly divergent perceptions in relation to adolescents stereotypes that are socially disseminated. Even though advances have occurred (such as the recognition of adolescents characteristics, references and etc.) towards the scientific concepts worked on that course. We expect greater attention on adolescence in the training of Science teachers, since these perceptions are present in the way that teachers exercise their work.Keywords: Adolescence; Science Teaching; Continuing Education of Science Teachers.

One of the factors influencing teachers’ and pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs is the use of innovations and research in education (scientific articles, thesis, and new teaching materials). This study aims to examine to what extent pre-service science teachers follow the innovations in the field of education and use these innovations in their profession. Secondly, how the innovations in the field of education effect teachers’ science teaching self-efficacy beliefs is examined. Survey method which is one of the quantitative research approaches was used in this study. The sample group of the study consisted of 563 pre-service science teachers enrolled in the Department of Science Teacher Training in the Faculty of Education at six universities in different regions of Turkey. The data in the study were collected using the “Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument (STEBI)” developed by Riggs and Enochs (1990) and “Scale of Following and Using the Innovations in the Field of Education” (SFUIFE) developed by the researchers of this study. The data were analyzed both descriptively and predictively using SPSS. The results of the study showed that the primary resources (search engines such as google, web pages for course materials etc.) have been used and followed less than the secondary resources (conferences, symposiums, panels, workshops, thesis, and scientific articles etc.) by pre-service science teachers. In addition, it was found that following and using social media tools, thesis and scientific articles increase pre-service science teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs of science teaching.

Resumo: A formação docente para o Ensino de Ciências é imprescindível também pelos constantes avanços nesta área, que devem ser acompanhados pelos professores em formação e em atividade. Diante disso, o presente estudo objetivou investigar concepções de nove professores sobre aspectos das formações inicial e continuada que influenciam o trabalho em sala de aula. Para tanto, foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa por meio de entrevistas com professores de Ciências de cinco escolas públicas na Paraíba. Os resultados indicaram que predomina entre professores uma visão de distanciamento entre formação inicial e continuada, cuja primeira é considerada como suficiente para a atuação em aula, enquanto a segunda é interpretada como uma complementação. Além disso, prevaleceu entre os professores a concepção de que a prática em sala de aula tem relevância equivalente ao curso de licenciatura para a atuação docente. Possivelmente, a prática é interpretada como forma de consolidar o que foi visto na formação inicial e uma justificativa para a ausência de continuidade na formação profissional. Propõe-se neste trabalho, portanto, que a formação docente seja vista como um processo permanente na qual os conhecimentos construídos no percurso das formações inicial e continuada sejam interdependentes.Palavras-chave: Ensino de ciências. Formação permanente Abstract: Teacher training for Science Teaching is also essential  due to constant advances in this area, which must be accompanied by the teachers in training and in activity. Thus, this work aimed to investigate teachers' conceptions about aspects of initial and continuing training that influence their work in the classroom. For that, a qualitative research was developed through interviews with science teachers from five public schools in Paraíba, Brazil. Results indicated a predominant idea of distance between initial and continued training, whose first is considered sufficient for the performance in class, while the last is interpreted as a complementation. In addition, it prevailed among teachers the conception that practice in the classroom and graduation course have an equal relevance to the teaching performance. Possibly, practice is interpreted as a way of consolidating what was learned in the initial formation and a justification for the lack of continuity in professional formation. It is proposed, therefore, that teacher education be seen as a permanent process in which the knowledges built during initial and continuing training be interdependent.Keywords: Science teaching. The objectives of the research were to describe the types of speech acts used in televised political debates of governor candidates of North Sumatera, to derive the dominant type of speech acts used in televised political debates of governor candidates of North Sumatera and to elaborate the way of five governor candidates of North Sumatera use speech acts in televised political debates. This research was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative research. The findings show that there were only four types of speech acts used in televised political debates, Debat Pemilukada Sumatera Utara and Uji Publik Cagub dan Cawagub Sumatera Utara, they were assertives, directives, commissives and expressives. The dominant type of speech acts used in both televised political debates was assertives, with 82 utterances or 51.6% in Debat Pemilukada Sumatera Utara and 36 utterances or 41.37% in Uji Publik Cagub dan Cawagub Sumatera Utara. The way of governor candidates of North Sumatera used speech acts in televised political debates is in direct speech acts, they spoke straight to the point and clearly in order to make the other candidates and audiences understand their utterances.   Keywords: Governor Candidate; Political Debate; Speech Acts

The purposes of this study are to anlyze the translation procedure and the way of the translator in translating the subtitle of Boychoir movie. The scope of this study is focused   on   the   type   of   translation   procedures   in translating the subtitle movie and also analyze the way of the translator in translating the subtitle on Newmark’s (1988:81) translation procedures which the procedures consist of 18 types. The methodology of this study was qualitative research. The researcher analyzed the data descriptively and presented the analysis result in the explanation form and supported by data presented in the form of table. In analyzing the data the procedures were as follows: juxtaposing both of English and Indonesian version, identifying, analyzing and classifying, and calculating the total numbers. The translation procedures found in the subtitle of the movie were literal translation, transference, naturalisation, cultural      equivalent, functional equivalent, synonymy, transpositions, modulation,     reduction     and     expansion, couplets. Keywords: Translation, Translation procedure, Subtitle, Boychoir movie

This chapter discusses three ongoing issues related to the evaluation of qualitative research. First, the chapter considers whether a set of evaluation criteria is either determinative or changeable. Due to the evolving nature of qualitative research, it is likely that the way in which qualitative research is evaluated can change—not all at once, but gradually. Second, qualitative research has been criticized by newly resurrected positivists whose definitions of scientific research and evaluation criteria are narrow. “Politics of evidence” and a recent big-tent evaluation strategy are examined. Last, this chapter analyzes how validity criteria of qualitative research are incorporated into the evaluation of mixed methods research. The elements of qualitative research seem to be fairly represented but are largely treated as trivial. A criterion, the fit of research questions to design, is identified as distinctive in the review guide of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research.

The national or local lockdowns in response to COVID-19 forced education systems to rapidly shift from in-person to distance learning. The hasty transition undoubtedly imposed tremendous challenges on teachers, students and distance learning infrastructure. The purpose of this study was to investigate how high school science teachers who had previously been trained in flipped-learning and advanced educational technology through the Science Teaching Excites Medical Interest (STEMI) program perceived their transition to distance learning during this pandemic. In this study eleven teachers were interviewed with a semi-structured interview guide. Data were analyzed using the deductive-inductive content analytic approach. Our results indicated that teachers reported having more confidence in using technology for teaching online due in part to their participation in the STEMI program. They also reported internet access as one of the most significant barriers, both for students and teachers. While some teachers thought that students may feel more in control of learning due to absence of time and place limits with distance learning, others may struggle to stay engaged without the classroom support they would normally have received. Teachers generally experienced increased workloads and harder work–life balance with online teaching. In spite of the unforeseen challenges, the pandemic situation afforded teachers with opportunities to adopt different technology in teaching and foresee the need for technology integration in order to better prepare for the unexpected in the future.

This study aims to obtain a concrete picture of the effectiveness of the application of the principles of teacher Islamic communication in fostering the character of tenth grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Rantauprapat. The communication process in education is not only understood as a one-way knowledge transfer process, however, there must be a serious effort on the part of the educator / teacher, as a communicator, to be able to provide good role models. Qualitative research methods try to understand a phenomenon as the understanding of the respondents studied, with an emphasis on the subjective aspects of one's behavior. Qualitative research provides an opportunity for researchers to understand the way respondents describe the world around them based on the way they think. The researcher tries to enter the conceptual world of the subject under study to capture what and how things happen. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews in this study researchers used a semi-structured interview (semitructure interview), namely: interviews in the category of in-depth interviews. Data about the application of teacher Islamic communication and the communication character of tenth grade students, data analysis used in this study during the field using the Miles and Huberman Model, namely the activities in qualitative data analysis are carried out interactively and continue continuously until completion, so that the data is already saturated.
