Acute Right Iliac Fossa Pain is a common symptom which has shown diagnostic difficulties for the surgical emergency clinic. A White Blood Cells test is required for Acute Right Iliac Fossa Pain diagnosis. In this study, we aimed to clarify the importance of Differential White Blood Cells test for Acute Right Iliac Fossa Pain diagnosis. The present observational study was conducted in in Heet General Hospital over a period of five months included 62 patients from both genders of different ages (5-45 years) who were suffering from Acute Right Iliac Fossa Pain. All patients were subjected to Differential White Blood Cells test which was carried out in the hospital laboratory using (Hematology Pentra 60 Series HORIBA ABX SAS). A statistical analysis were then run using ANOVA and LSD tests. The analysis have shown the means of each type as follow; NEU (8.3516), LYM (31.2984), MON, (6.1952), GRA (62.6790) 10^3/mm3. Also, a comparison among all the WBCs types and also between and within groups was performed using one and two ways Analysis of Variance ANOVA tests which have shown that there are significant differences of all differentials WBCs types. p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Based on our findings, it can be clearly stated that Differential White Blood Cells tests (not only WBC) are very important for the clear diagnosis of Acute Right Iliac Fossa Pathology.

Leukocytes or white blood cells have a characteristic characteristic of different cells. Determination of the impression of the number of leukocytes is determined in the number of cells in the field of view. While the number of viewable field cells expressed is still quite varied. The purpose of this study was to determine the number of leukocytes in the field of view and expressed the impression of a sufficient amount. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Health Analyst Department Panrita Husada Bulukumba on 9 April 2017 to 14 July 2017. This type of research is a laboratory observation that aims to determine the criteria for assessing the impression of the number of leukocytes on a peripheral blood smear. Data analysis using statistical analysis is the average and standard deviations to determine the impression of the number of leukocytes and use 3 inspection zones. The results of this study obtained results in zone IV the number of leukocyte impressions said to be sufficient was 7-10, in zone V the number of leukocyte impressions said to be sufficient was 4-9, and in zone VI the number of leukocyte impressions said to be sufficient was 3-8.

Introduction: The lockdown was implemented nationally for six weeks, followed by another two weeks of graded lockdown in districts in India as a means to prevent spread of infection. During this period, there was restriction of movement of residents except for those engaged in providing essential services. Aim: To find out socio-demographic profile of patients along with the impact of lockdown and spread of Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) infection post-lockdown. Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study conducted in Bairagarh, a suburban area of Bhopal. The study was conducted for three months i.e. from 9th April 2020 to 9th July 2020. A contact tracing questionnaire was used for data collection. The data was collected by actual visiting the patient’s address. The data collected was compiled and analysed using Microsoft Excel 2020. The patients were instructed to inform the data collector of any post-viral symptoms after 15 days of diagnosis to find out any post-viral complaints. Percentages and proportions were derived using Epi info-7.0. Results: During the study period of three months, in total 90 patients were interviewed. Almost 85.5% cases were found post-lockdown. Most common age group to be involved was 31-45 years. Males were more commonly infected. Only 14.44% patients who worked during lockdown were infected. Almost 26.6% patients were involved in cloth merchandise business which was closed during lockdown and had a sudden upsurge in business during unlock. In total 47.7% patients were asymptomatic when tested. Relative Risk (RR) of acquiring infection post-lockdown was 1.13. Doubling rate of infection among study population during lockdown was found to be 14.05 days compared to 5.35 days post-lockdown. Almost 80% patients did not have any post-viral symptoms. The most common symptom seen was nose block. Conclusion: The lockdown was found to be effective strategy in controlling spread of COVID-19 infection as post-lockdown there was sudden increase in number positive cases.

Iron deficiency has become a common nutritional problem of developing countries, especially in children. This study approached to tackle the issue of iron deficiency by inexpensive fortified food such as chewing gums, which is commonly consumed by children. In this study, iron-fortified chewing gums were prepared by adding ferrous sulfate (FeSO4) and sodium iron EDTA (NaFeEDTA) 30 mg/100 g. An efficacy trial was conducted to determine the impact of iron-fortified chewing gums on the blood profile and iron status of school-going children (n = 300). Results showed maximum increase in blood profile and iron status that is, serum ferritin (10.43%), hemoglobin (3.22%), hematocrit (3.42%), red blood cells (3.05%), mean cell volume (1.55%), mean cell hemoglobin (5.43%), total white blood cells count (9.09%), and platelets count (4.40%) as compared with control whereas decrease in mean cell hemoglobin concentration (1.90%) and neutrophils (3.33%) was also observed. The study concluded that FeSO4 and NaFeEDTA (1:1) fortification of chewing gums is an appropriate approach for mitigating iron deficiency among the target population.

Abstract 1. The values for hemoglobin concentration, total white blood cells, granulocytes, lymphocytes and monocytes at the midpoint of 78 drug-induced remissions in a group of children with acute leukemia have been presented. These values have been compared with those from a group of normal children, and the differences analyzed statistically. 2. Statistical analysis shows that, in general, blood values in remission are reduced by the particular agent employed. White blood cells are more markedly affected than hemoglobin. 3. The effects are essentially the same with 6-M.P. given alone or in combination with azaserine or DON. 4. The reduction in values is greatest with 6-M.P., alone or in combination, less with amethopterin and least with prednisone. 5. The data presented indicate that criteria for complete blood remission should make allowances for the influence of the drug employed.

The aim of the experiment was to evaluate the impact of selenium supplementation on white blood cell parameters in the blood of ewes. The total white blood cell (WBC) and differentiation of leukocytes in blood smear were detected by a microscopic analysis, and the CD4<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> subsets were detected by flow cytometry. A decrease in the count of WBC was recorded during pregnancy; it was statistically significant only in the group supplemented with organic selenium. In the postpartal period there was a statistically significant increase in the percentages of CD4<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> subsets but differences between the groups were not statistically significant. The results of the experiment documented that the supplementation of different forms of selenium did not markedly influence the dynamics of blood parameters in non-pregnant, pregnant and lactating ewes if the intake of vitamins and other essential microelements was adequate.

AbstractThe aims of this randomized controlled double-blind clinical trial were to assess the impact of vitamin D supplementation on calcium metabolism and non-calcemic broad gene expression by relating them to the individual’s responsiveness to varying doses of vitamin D3. Thirty healthy adults were randomized to receive 600, 4,000 or 10,000 IU/d of vitamin D3 for 6 months. Circulating parathyroid hormone (PTH), 25(OH)D, calcium and peripheral white blood cells broad gene expression were evaluated. We observed a dose-dependent increase in 25(OH)D concentrations, decreased PTH and no change in serum calcium. A plateau in PTH levels was achieved at 16 weeks in the 4000 and 10,000 IU/d groups. There was a dose-dependent 25(OH)D alteration in broad gene expression with 162, 320 and 1289 genes up- or down-regulated in their white blood cells, respectively. Our results clearly indicated that there is an individual’s responsiveness on broad gene expression to varying doses of vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 supplementation at 10,000 IU/d produced genomic alterations several fold higher than 4,000 IU/d even without further changes in PTH levels. Our findings may help explain why there are some inconsistency in the results of different vitamin D’s clinical trials.

Background: A misconception is a form of error in scientific knowledge that is believed to be accurate. As a result, someone who has a misconception of something will reject scientific truth and will hinder the assimilation of new knowledge. The purpose of this study was to identify misconceptions that occur in students regarding the topic of blood classification. Methods: The survey method research was conducted on 97 students scattered in Malang and Tulungagung, Indonesia. The data analysis technique uses coding for categorization into four categories: conceptual understanding, partial understanding, misconception, and not understanding the concept. Results: The results showed that misconceptions occurred in all sub-topics of blood classification. Misconceptions were found in the concept of blood plasma (2.1%), white blood cells (6.2%), thrombocytes (17.5%), and blood classification system (8.2%). Misconceptions occur due to several misunderstandings of students such as red blood cells that play a role in transporting nutrients, haemoglobin only binds oxygen, and difficulty distinguishing between antigens and antibodies in determining blood groups, blood donation, and the impact arising from donations. Conclusion: The existence of misconceptions causes students' mastery of blood classification material to be hampered.
