This is a cross-sectional analytical study that was conducted with 54 women aged 18 and 30 years – twenty-five (25) were overweight and twenty-nine (29) were eutrophic. Muscle strength was assessed by an isokinetic dynamometer, whereas functionality was assessed by the Bunkie Test. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS program (Sciences Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). As a result, the present study identified that overweight women can generate absolute peak torque in the 1st grade (p = 0.023), in the 2nd grade (p = 0.009), and in the 2nd highest grade (p = 0.009) than eutrophic women. However, when the peak torque was analyzed proportionally to the body weight, these values were lower, and no difference was found between the groups (p 0.05). For the Bunkie Test, the overweight group presented worse performance in the functionality, especially in the extension movements, in the dorsal decubitus position, of the right lower limbs (p = 0.011), left (p = 0.004) and in the maintenance of the decubitus trunk right side (p = 0.008). It is concluded that overweight can directly affect muscle strength and interfere with the trunk function of young women, suggesting a muscle imbalance in the trunk and lower limbs. Keywords: Muscle Strength. Aims: To verify the influence of immersion cryotherapy on isometric strength and lower limb power of athletes. Methods: Using a cross-sectional crossover design, 14 rugby athletes underwent three laboratory visits. The first visit was composed of anthropometric (mass, height, and body composition), aerobic capacity (cardiopulmonary exercise test), and dietary assessments. On the second and third visits, vertical jump and isometric peak torque of the knee extensors were assessed in three moments: 1) at baseline; 2) after fatigue protocol; and 3) after recovery protocol: active rest or immersion cryotherapy. Fatigue protocol was composed by running at a speed corresponding to 120% of VO2MAX until voluntary fatigue. To immersion cryotherapy, all subjects had their lower limbs immersed in a tank with ice and water (10 ± 1°C), remaining in the standing position for 10 minutes. For active recovery, subjects were standing in an empty tank. Data were analyzed on GraphPAD Prism (p<0.05). Results: Fourteen rugby athletes (age 22 ± 2 years; fat mass 27.8 ± 4.4%; VO2MAX 44.1 ± 6.7 ml.kg-1.min-1) were evaluated. There was no difference in caloric intake among the evaluation days (2,893 ± 802 versus 2,915 ± 746 kcal; p=0.949). Jump height reduced 18% after fatigue and immersion cryotherapy protocols (33.0 ± 2.8 versus 27.0 ± 2.8 cm; p<0.05) and a 7.1% increase after fatigue and active rest (32.5 ± 6.4 versus 34.8 ± 2.1 cm; p<0.05). Regarding the isometric peak torque, it was reduced by 3.7% after immersion cryotherapy (295 ± 71 versus 285 ± 68 Nm; p<0.05) and 9.6% after active rest (297 ± 73 versus 268 ± 72 Nm; p<0.05). Conclusion: Immersion cryotherapy seems to affect lower limb power albeit could assist in the recovery of isometric strength compared to passive recovery. This information is important to compose recovery protocols for specific tasks. Keywords: physical therapy specialty, cryotherapy, recovery of function, regeneration, muscle strength, athletic performance, exercise.

ArgumentFor more than thirty years after World War II, the unconventional economist Kenneth E. Boulding (1910–1993) was a fervent advocate of the integration of the social sciences. Building on common general principles from various fields, notably economics, political science, and sociology, Boulding claimed that an integrated social science in which mental images were recognized as the main determinant of human behavior would allow for a better understanding of society. Boulding's approach culminated in the social triangle, a view of society as comprised of three main social organizers – exchange, threat, and love – combined in varying proportions. According to this view, the problems of American society were caused by an unbalanced combination of these three organizers. The goal of integrated social scientific knowledge was therefore to help policy makers achieve the “right” proportions of exchange, threat, and love that would lead to social stabilization. Though he was hopeful that cross-disciplinary exchanges would overcome the shortcomings of too narrow specialization, Boulding found that rather than being the locus of a peaceful and mutually beneficial exchange, disciplinary boundaries were often the occasion of conflict and miscommunication.

Context Tennis requires repetitive overhead movements that can lead to upper extremity injury. The scapula and the shoulder play a vital role in injury-free playing. Scapular dysfunction and glenohumeral changes in strength and range of motion (ROM) have been associated with shoulder injury in the overhead athlete. Objective To compare scapular position and strength and shoulder ROM and strength between Swedish elite tennis players of 3 age categories (<14, 14–16, and >16 years). Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Tennis training sports facilities. Patients or Other Participants Fifty-nine adolescent Swedish elite tennis players (ages 10–20 years) selected based on their national ranking. Main Outcome Measure(s) We used a clinical screening protocol with a digital inclinometer and a handheld dynamometer to measure scapular upward rotation at several angles of arm elevation, isometric scapular muscle strength, glenohumeral ROM, and isometric rotator cuff strength. Results Players older than 16 years showed less scapular upward rotation on the dominant side at 90° and 180° (P < .05). Although all absolute scapular muscle strength values increased with age, there was no change in the body-weight–normalized strength of the middle (P = .9) and lower (P = .81) trapezius or serratus anterior (P = .17). Glenohumeral internal-rotation ROM and total ROM tended to decrease, but this finding was not statistically significant (P = .052 and P = .06, respectively). Whereas normalized internal-rotator strength increased from 14 to 16 years to older than 16 years (P = .009), normalized external-rotator and supraspinatus strength remained unchanged. Conclusions Age-related changes in shoulder and scapular strength and ROM were apparent in elite adolescent tennis players. Future authors should examine the association of these adaptations with performance data and injury incidence.

This study aimed to reveal the level of satisfaction of the body image and its relationship to the reasons why young women are undergoing cosmetic surgery from their perspectives. The sample of the study consisted of (150) young women who visit private beauty clinic. Two scales were developed: a scale of the level of satisfaction of body image consisting of (34) item and a scale of the reasons of why young women are undergoing cosmetic surgery consisting of (39) item. After insured the scales' validity and reliability, the descriptive-correlational approach was used. The results of the study showed that the level of body image was moderate, and for the reasons of why young women are undergoing cosmetic surgery; the psychological dimension came in the first rank, While the vocational dimension came in the last rank. The results also found a positive correlation between body image satisfaction and the reasons why young women are undergoing cosmetic surgery. The results did not show differences in the level of satisfaction of the body image to the variable of marital status and economic level. While the results showed dissatisfaction with the body image due to age in favor of the category (31-40) and the educational qualification in favor of a diploma degree and below. As for the reasons for the young women undergoing cosmetic surgery, it was found that there were no statistically significant differences in the marital status and educational qualification variables, also, there were differences due to age only on the social dimension and in favor of (31 - 40), and there were differences attributed to the economic level in the social dimension in favor of the category (500-1000). Considering the results, the researcher recommended reinforcing the body image through nurture and guidance to raise the level of satisfaction with body image and to conduct more surveys, qualitative, and experimental studies related to cosmetic surgery other than the target category in this study, and for both sexes.

This chapter proposes a counter-history of a seminal debate in the transition from structuralism to post-structuralism. It calls into question the widespread assumption that Derrida rejects Foucault’s structuralist stranglehold by demonstrating that the meaning of a text always remains open. Through a meticulous examination of their respective historical paradigms, methodological orientations and hermeneutic parameters, it argues that Derrida’s critique of his former professor is, at the level of theoretical practice, a call to return to order. The ultimate conclusion is that the Foucault-Derrida debate has much less to do with Descartes’ text per se, than with the relationship between the traditional tasks of philosophy and the meta-theoretical reconfiguration of philosophic practice via the methods of the social sciences.
