The paper proposes a model for calculating the integrated ecological and economic indicator, which has considerable potential for application as a reliable instrument for the expenditures harmonization for environmental and social purposes, namely gender and social interactions, as part of the sustainable development paradigm implementation at the regional level. It has been shown that the use of three-factor functions (factors of industrial development, environmental investments and structural changes in the economy) allows obtaining more relevant results for making managerial decisions by more accurate description of real processes. It has been proved that the social component ought to take into account the gender peculiarities of regional development and be reflected in decision-making procedures of local authorities, namely, the gender components of the region's development have to be reflected in statistical reporting and be subject to the requirements of the Sustainable Development Goals, which are officially approved by the Ukrainian government. Gender interactions have to be the subject to a comprehensive study of region sustainable development based on increasing the social significance of attracting vulnerable strata of the population to active labor and political activities, increasing the efficiency of "social lifts", forming stable equal relations between territorial communities of different levels of economic development and financial capacity. The main task is to find the balance of interests between the needs of certain types of economic activity development in the region, the development of social parameters and the need to preserve the environment. It has been noted that the most effective means of finding this balance is the corresponding economic and mathematical instrumentarium. Moreover, the necessity of such interaction realization on the conditions of balanced support of the national economy functioning in terms of reproductive, technological, activity-specific and external macroeconomic proportions determines the use of the balance-sheet method of "input-output" and balance-based models build upon it. Therefore, the actual issues of scientific and practical support of sustainable development process implementation at the regional level identify the tools for taking into account the influence factors on social policy in the context of the principles introduction of such development. The study of specific cases of the ecological and economic modeling methods use to substantiate effective social policy at the regional level has considerable real possibilities for detailed elaboration, which also results in the use of separate mechanisms of ecological and economic modeling for the needs of effective social policy conduct at the regional level.

Balancing the social, economic and environmental priorities for public health is at the core of the United Nations (UN) approaches to sustainable development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The four dimensions of sustainable diets are often presented as health, society, economics, and the environment. Although sustainable diet research has focused on health and the environment, the social and economic dimensions of sustainable diets and food systems should not be forgotten. Some research priorities and sociocultural indicators for sustainable healthy diets and food systems are outlined in this report. The present goal is to improve integration of the social dimension into research on food and nutrition security.

This article summarizes the arguments and counterarguments in the scientific discussion on the main prospects for expanding the insurance market through the lens of the financial activation of the sustainable development of the region. The main aim of the study is the theoretical foundations of the insurance market in the context of financial activation of the region’s sustainable development. Systematization of literary sources and approaches to solving the problem of expanding the insurance market through the prism of financial activation of the region’s sustainable development showed that the majority of Ukrainian scientists who dealt with this issue considered certain instruments of activating influence on the social, economic and environmental spheres of the regions. The urgency of solving this scientific problem lies in the fact that the domestic insurance market is at the stage of its formation, in many cases it does not allow to use it as an effective tool for implementing state policy. Considering that sustainable development and insurance as a subsystem of a common economic space exert mutual influence on each other, the lack of a theoretical and methodological substantiation of the strategy for the development of the insurance market negatively affects the consistency and consistency of the sustainable development of society. The study of the problem of the implementation of insurance activities in Ukraine in the article is carried out in the following logical sequence: determining the sustainable development of the region and its revitalization; research of the insurance market at the present stage of development; setting priorities for the development of the insurance market in terms of ensuring the sustainable development of the region. The object of the research is the sustainable development of the region and its activation, as well as the insurance market of Ukraine. The article presents the results of an empirical analysis of the insurance market of Ukraine, showed that the insurance market has a tendency to develop. The main directions of the integration of insurance activities in the system of sustainable development of the region from the standpoint of its activation are proposed. The study empirically confirms and theoretically proves that the existing prospects for expanding the insurance market through the prism of financial activation of the sustainable development of the region. The results of the study can be useful for practitioners, academics, students, anyone interested in the concept of sustainable development.

Background: recycling is an essential tool for promoting sustainable development, as mechanisms that reduce the use of virgin raw materials will limit the use of scarce resources and reduce the progressive accumulation of waste. as well as contain their side effects and pollution causing health problems, among others. At the base of the recycling system are the collectors of recyclables, agents of this activity who are the workers who pick, select and sell recyclable materials such as paper, glass, metal, garbage, and other reusable materials. Aim: this study aimed to verify the income earned and the contribution to the sustainable development process arising from collecting recyclable materials. Methods: the proposed study was carried out at the Cajazeiras Waste Pickers Association (ASCAMARC), in this city, Alto Sertão da Paraíba. The population and sample are 13 recyclable waste pickers who actively participate in ASCAMARC and voluntarily agreed to participate in the research after being informed about its objectives. The content analysis technique was used through transcripts of interviews with the target audience and documents from secondary sources, and the collected data were also analyzed in quantitative form. Results and Discussion: the results show that 12 (92.31%) waste pickers earn less than one wage, and 01 (7.69%) waste pickers earn a minimum wage through the activity of collecting recyclable material and that there is currently great concern about the damage generated to the environment by solid wastes that have a long degradation time. It was found that 13 (100%) waste pickers believe that collecting recyclable materials contributes to the environment. Conclusions: It can be concluded from the results obtained the social, economic, and environmental importance of the work of waste pickers, despite the precarious conditions in which they perform the activity, without their participation in the base of the recycling chain, perhaps the environmental situation would be more chaotic in recent times.

The method of the social investing of the Arctic subsoil users is considered in this article. As the portfolio of social investments is formed based on the interests of indigenous peoples, the authors used expert assessment and sociological research for social investing modeling. A two-stage procedure for forming a portfolio of such projects is proposed. An approach has also been developed for assessing and selecting investment projects for the Arctic sustainable development according to different criteria of optimality. The authors substantiate the need for a new approach to sustainable development of the Arctic, based not on compensation for the negative consequences of industrial development used in many countries, but on social investment. In this article the proposed approach is tested on the case of the Arctic indigenous community in Taimyr and the optimal social investing portfolio is justified.

Abstract Investments towards sustainable development are vital for the future and they must be carefully planned to deliver immediate and long-term benefits. Hence, the ability to communicate the forms of impact of sustainable investments to local societies, people, investors and other stakeholders can provide a competitive advantage. However, the assessments are often under pressure to demonstrate short-term effects rather than emphasise the long-term impact. In addition, indirect and intangible forms of impacts should not be measured solely in economic terms. This paper proposes an assessment framework to support the integrated economic and social impact assessment of sustainable investments aimed at improving physical and socio-economic wellbeing. The framework is demonstrated in two case studies: new construction and renovation investments in affordable housing and social impact investment in sustainable development. The investments in the case studies are evaluated, selected and prioritized not only in terms of money but also with regard to sustainability, social acceptability and their overall impact on society, as a whole. The results indicate that a systematic integrated assessment of monetary and non-monetary factors can be successfully combined with the sustainable development decisions.

Many Polish cities have objects in them that have ceased to function in accordance with their intended use, for one reason or another. These are often post-industrial objects and former military facilities. As a result of the social, political and economic transformations that have taken place in Poland over the years after the Second World War, these objects have lost the meaning of their existence and functioning. Quite often such objects also have a historical character, which may, under Polish law, serve to hinder the possibility of them being reused. A well prepared revitalisation is often the only way for such objects to regain their earlier functionality, or gain a new one. Selected examples of the revitalisation of historic buildings located in Olsztyn (the capital of Warmia and Mazury, the Voivodeship in North-East Poland) were analysed by the authors in this article, and the effects of such actions, connected to the development of the city, were presented. The study included examples of the revitalisation of post-industrial objects and former military facilities. The analysis was performed in the years 2010–2016. The history and previous functional status of the tested objects were presented, as well as their present form and function. The authors have performed a comprehensive analysis of the compliance of new functions of objects with the idea of the sustainable development of the city. The results show the extent to which the analysed activities comply with the principles of sustainable development, in social, economic and environmental terms.
