This research is motivated by a large number of students who have difficulty in solving mathematical problems of with fractions. This research aims to find out and describe the difficulties experienced by a student in solving mathematical problem infraction. This type of research is qualitative research. This Study found that the difficulties experienced by students in solving fractions are difficulty in understanding the concept of fractional counting operations, difficulty because it does not master multiplication as preparatory material, and difficulty in solving problem-solving problems in fractions. Internal factors that cause students to have difficulty in solving math problems in the fraction are low student motivation, students don’t like math and low ability of students in mathematics. External factors that cause students to experience difficulties in fraction learning are unfavorable class conditions and poor classroom management.

Junior high school’s students should be able to determine fraction and also implement the concepts of fraction to solve mathematics problem. However, in reality, so many mistake that occur for students in solving mathematics problem in the operation of fraction. The intelligence of students also affects the number of errors in solving the fractional counting operations. So, the purpose of this study was to determine students' errors in solving the problem of fractional counting operations based on the level of students’ intelligence. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The research results show that the different category of students’ intelligent produce different mathematical problem solving abilities. Students with low intelligence categories make many errors in their completion. On the other hands, the student with high intelligence category makes a few errors.

This research seeks to explore and reveal students' mathematical problem solving abilities by analyzing student answers. The research subjects were seventh grade students taken from a public junior high school in Purwakarta Regency. The results of the study show that students' mathematical problem solving ability is still very weak and far to be complete even though the level of difficulty of the instrument is in the medium category. In general, the ability of these study subjects in mathematical problem solving is still below 50%. It is time for teachers to apply problem-based learning, in addition to conventional learning models, to provide opportunities and experiences for students to see and experience mathematical problem solving in the classroom. This qualitative study exposes students' responses in dealing with story questions in a rectangular building material. In addition the students are given the questions shown to reveal whether the students are using a systematic solution or can answer directly without a sequence, judging by the ability to solve mathematical problems. There were 6 heterogeneous students who were the subjects in this study. Based on the analysis that has been done, the results obtained are (1) students answer the problem is not systematic, (2) lack of understanding of the sequence of problem solving, (3) students are too hasty in doing math problems.

Religious figures have an important role in increasing society’s religious understanding, so that it may behave and comply with the proper guidelines and teachings of Islam. An issue apparent in Toweren Village was that many of its population who kept dogs without observing shariah guidelines and understanding the proper concept of mughallazahnajs. The purposes of this research were: (1) the efforts exerted by the religious figures, (2) impeding factors, (3) and problem-solving solutions on the issue of increasing the religious understanding of the community members of Toweren Village, Lut Tawar District, Central Aceh Regency regarding mughallazahnajs on the context of dog keeping. It is a descriptive qualitative research, and data was collected through interview and observation. The research results indicated that: (1) the efforts exerted by the religious figures were only limited to general activities within the community, such as Friday prayer, teaching of village apparatus’ wives on Friday morning, reciting yasin on Thursday night, teaching of district officials every fifteenth of the month, giving advice during a wake, and doing announcements using the mosque’s loudspeaker; (2) impeding factors, comprising: (a) internal factors, such as education background and the difference in characters among the community members, and (b) external factors, such as the limitedness of energy, time, fund, facility, media, and fiqh-studying programs, as well as a lack ofcoordination between religious figures and relevant government agencies; (3) solutions to be implemented included: (a) increasing the frequency of fiqh studies, (b) intense socialization of fiqh studying on the mughallazahnajs concept, (c) conducting a shariah-complying village program, (e) forming a special team to handle the problems faced by dog-keeping community members, and (f) cooperating with the village apparatus and district/regency religious agencies to treat this case as a top priority.

AbstractResearch on mathematical problem solving has a long tradition: retracing its fascinating story sheds light on its intricacies and, therefore, on its needs. When we analyze this impressive literature, a critical issue emerges clearly, namely, the presence of words and expressions having many and sometimes opposite meanings. Significant examples are the terms ‘realistic’ and ‘modeling’ associated with word problems in school. Understanding how these terms are used is important in research, because this issue relates to the design of several studies and to the interpretation of a large number of phenomena, such as the well-known phenomenon of students’ suspension of sense making when they solve mathematical problems. In order to deepen our understanding of this phenomenon, we describe a large empirical and qualitative study focused on the effects of variations in the presentation (text, picture, format) of word problems on students’ approaches to these problems. The results of our study show that the phenomenon of suspension of sense making is more precisely a phenomenon of activation of alternative kinds of sense making: the different kinds of active sense making appear to be strongly affected by the presentation of the word problem.

The ability to solve mathematical problems related to purchasing and personal finance is important in promoting skill generalization and increasing independence for individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities (IDs). Using a multiple probe across participant design, this study investigated the effects of modified schema-based instruction (MSBI) on personal finance problem solving skills, purchasing an item on sale or leaving a tip, and using a calculator or iDevice (i.e., iPhone or iPad) for three middle school students diagnosed with a moderate ID. The results showed a functional relation between MSBI using a calculator on the participant’s ability to solve addition and subtraction personal finance word problems and generalize to iDevices. The findings of this study provide several implications for practice and offer suggestions for future research.

This study aims to describe the student's ability to solve math problems in the Differential Equation course in Polya's steps. This research is a descrip-tive study. The research subjects were the 6th-semester students of STKIP MPL for the 2018-2019 academic year. Data analysis used processed and pre-pared data, read the entire data, analyzed the detail, implemented the coding process, described themes, interpreted the data. The study found that the easy variable differential equation problems could be separated, 2 students understood the problem, 5 students initiated the solution, 4 students com-pleted through the plan, 2 students checked again, 2 students completed through the plan, no students checked again.

This study aims to describe the ability of communication and problem solving of mathematical students in the material quadrilateral and triangle in class VII in one district of MTs Bandung. This type of research is qualitative research with phenomenology model which aims to interpret communication ability and ability to solve the mathematical problem of students. The subjects of this study were 24 students for communication skills and 25 students for math problem-solving skills. The result of data analysis shows that the mathematical communication ability of grade VII students in one MTs in Kabupaten Bandung is still relatively low with the highest percentage being in the low communication ability qualification which is 37.5%, while for students who have ability is get percentage equal to 29,2% and for students with high communication skills get a percentage of 33.3%, while for problem-solving skills in class VII is quite good with the highest percentage in qualification students with high problem-solving ability with a percentage of 44%, while for qualified students who ability is getting percentage by 40%, and for low qualifications only got a percentage of 16%.. Keywords: mathematical communication ability, mathematical problem-solving ability

This study aims to provide information about the history, processions and shifting values that occur in the Wiwitan Tradition in Mangunan, Dlingo, Bnatul, Yogyakarta and the factors behind it. This study used qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used was data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this research is that the history Wiwitan Tradition which going on for hundreds of years. The stages in the Wiwitan Tradition are the stages of preparation and implementation. The form of a shift in the value of the Wiwitan Tradition is in the form of shift in value in terms of economy, social, tourism, religion and spirituality. The shift in value that occurs is caused by external factors and internal factors.
