This study aims at investigating at the use of Direct Method in the classroom, a few of English teacher applied  many strategies and methods to increase students’ speaking skill throughout describing and asking responses from the students, sometimes the teacher using group discussion, role play/simulation, picture story, and game, etc. . Besides, using interesting strategies or methods. But in reality, the students faced the problem, while the researcher using Direct Method in this study the students able to speak each other. Subsequently has improvement in speaking skill.  The main focused in this study is to know the effect using Direct Method before and after being taught by using Direct Method. And also emphasizes the benefits of the Direct Method to teach how to communicate in the target language.

This research in intended to find out the effectiveness of small group discussion technique in improving the students’s speaking ability. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Ratahan in which one class of the first-year students of the school was the sample. The data of the research were obtained by using test in the form of pre-test and post-test. The result showed that the scores of the post-test were higher than that of the pre-test. The mean of the post-test is 8.2 and the mean of the pre-test is 6.7. Teaching speaking skill by using small group discussion technique can improve the students’ ability in speaking. Small group discussion technique can give the students opportunity to practice their language. In small group discussion, they can express their ideas and thought freely. It will be better for English teacher to vary the techniques of teaching to avoid boredom that might appear to the students.

Speaking is productively skill because it can create many words continuously go on. some students want to speak in a certain condition or stimuli. An event when the students express freely what the are feeling in front of the class without being shy to his/her friends. Of course it is not far from teacher’ role, how the teacher make his/her students become active in the class.So that’s why teacher role in this case is ultimate to create an active and creative students. Something that makes the role of teachet is important is if a teacher takes and play his/her role well applied un the class, it will indirectly motivate the students to show their ability up in front of the class and it will affect when the students are in public society. The research showed that teacher role is ultimate in education due to make a class comfort either for the students or for the teacher to reach educational purposes. Additionally, The teacher played the role in the class more namely as Learning Manager role that applied in the class. The reasons are to make students fell comfort in joining the class, to make the students build their confidence up in order to be able to speak English, etc. Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teacher to select the approppriate roles needed by the students. Teacher may combine or use more than one role in one subject. Then, teacher should pay attention to the students development in terms of students’ speaking ability and have something which challege or treats the students more to speak such as using game or role play. This study treats students by role-play simulation for learning the human circulatory system. Creative skill and concept mastery to be assessed aspects at the end of learning. The method used in this research is the quasi-experimental method. The sample was taken by cluster random sampling technique with the population of students in 8th grade at one of Junior High School in Bandung. The samples in the experimental class n=24 and control class n= 24.the data obtained using the rubric of creative skill consist of process and product. For treatment in experiment class, implemented the role play while for the control class conducted the group discussion. This study aims to examine the effect of role-playing on students’ concept mastery and creative skills. The data result of students’ concept mastery was taken by pretest and posttest. The result of students’ concept mastery was indicated by mean of posttest score in the experimental class, which is implemented the role play is higher than the control class, 79.50 > 64.00, respectively. Creative skills in the process that will be seen during the implementation of the role play and creative skills in product measured by the scenario of the role play. This research indicated that role play could be implemented in the teaching-learning process. The research findings show that there is a significant effect of role-playing on students’ concept mastery and lead students to be skillfully creative.

This research is aimed to know whether Role Play Technique is effective in improving student’s speaking skill at 9th grade students of SMP Islam Ruhama Cireundeu. This research is based on the last observation result that the students were still difficult to speak. This research is categorized as Experimental Study. It is carried out to solve students’ problem in speaking. The findings of the research stated that students’ comprehension (66) is the lowest score and students’ grammar (66.5) is the highest score in post test score of experiment class while students’comprehension (72.5) is the lowest score and students’ vocabulary (74) is the highest score in post test of experiment class. The subject of this research is the students of class IX.1 and IX.2 of SMP Islam Ruhama Cireundeu. In collecting the data, this research uses observation and test. Based on the result and the discussion of this research, it can be said that the using of role play in teaching speaking is successful since the crieteria of success were achieved. The criteria of success is there is a significant improvement from pretest result to posttest. The result shows that the pretest average score in experiment class is 66.2 becomes 73.1 in post test while in control class, the significant improvement is only 1.2 (pre test 65.9 and post test 67.1). Based on the result that is mentioned before, the writer suggests that the English teacher should implement a role play in order to improve students’ speaking skill.

Speaking is one of the main purposes of language learning in that it is an ability to transfer some ideas to other people clearly and correctly. In other words, he or she can communicate his or her ideas well to other people. As speaking dominates all activities in the English subject, the language components, namely pronunciation, fluency and vocabulary should also be learnt to support the language skills.  Based on the English teacher interview result that small group discussion have never been used by the teachers, speaking skill on the eighth grade students of junior high school of SMP Darul Muhajirin, so it was necessary to conduct a research in this school. The research design was quasi experimental. It began from conducting homogeneity test, deciding the experimental class and the control class, giving activities to the control class using the common technique and material usually applied by the English teacher and treatments to the experimental class that was using small group discussion in teaching speaking, then giving the same post-test to both classes, and the last analyzing the results of the post-test by using t-test. The result of this research The analysis of the post test results showed that there was a significant effect of using small group discussion that of speaking skill the experimental class got higher mean score than the control class (65, 1>57, 5) of the students’ speaking skill. Then, the result of data analysis using SPSS showed that the t-test value (2-tailed) 0.000, was less than 0.05.is expected to provide useful information for the English teacher to use interesting materials, that is, small group discussion in the English teaching learning process, especially in teaching speaking, since the small group discussion have never been used at SMPN Darul Muhajirin.

This paper aimed to investigate to what extent the role play technique, especially semi-scripted could improve students’ speaking skill in English. This research was a descriptive qualitative in nature where was conducted at SMP Rahmat in Surabaya, East Java. Thirty students participated in this study and they have practiced a semi-scripted role play as one kind of role play techniques. There was pre-test and post-test applied, before and after the role play activities. The tests were done to measure students’ speaking skill. The results of this study showed that semi-scripted role play technique could significantly improve and affect properly the speaking ability of the students. Furthermore, by employing the semi-scripted role play, the students could freely express their feelings and make them able to explore their creativity in more ways to enable them facing the real life. The aims of this research are; (1) to know the strategies used by native English teachers to teach speaking to the students of Vietnam National University of Agriculture, (2) to describe how the strategies contributed to the students speaking skills, and (3) to explain the problems faced by native English teachers in EFL speaking classes. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation. It presents the result of the study in the form of a descriptive explanation. The findings of this research are the strategies used by native English teachers to teach speaking to the students of Vietnam National University of Agriculture, namely (a) group discussion, (b) role play, (c) brainstorming, (d) storytelling, (e) story completion, (f) describing picture, (g) game (guessing the word), (h) using target language/interview. Based on those strategies, the results show that the strategies help students to improve their speaking skills, vocabulary, and confidence. Also, it can help students to solve problems, increase sensitivity, think critically, and express their ideas. Furthermore, the findings of the problems faced by native English teachers in speaking class are (a) pronunciation, (b) lack of confidence, (c) lack of ending sounds, (d) no vocabulary and grammar.

Permasalahan penelitian adalah perbandingan keefektifan metode diskusi kelompok dan bermain peran dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia mahasiswa di Thammasat University, Thailand. Tujuan penelitian untuk menentukan metode pembelajaran yang lebih efektif antara metode diskusi kelompok dan bermain peran dalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia mahasiswa di Thammasat University, Thailand. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh mahasiswa jurusan kajian Asia Tenggara di Thammasat University yang mengambil mata kuliah pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa asing. Sampel penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang belajar bahasa Indonesia di kelas dasar. Pengambilan data menggunakan instrumen lembar penilaian performansi keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia. Validitas instrumen menggunakan validitas isi. Reliabilitas instrumen diperiksa melalui teknik interrater. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan Independent Sample Test dengan bantuan program SPSS 17.0 for windows. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa metode bermain peran lebih efektif daripada metode diskusi kelompok untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Indonesia mahasiswa Thammasat University, Thailand. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROMOTING THE INDONESIAN SKILL THROUGH GROUP DISCUSSION AND ROLE PLAY METHODS ON THE STUDENT OF THAMMASAT UNIVERSITY, THAILAND   Abstract The problem is the comparative effectiveness method for improving the Indonesian speaking skill of the students of Thammasat university,Thailand. The study is aimed to discribe the effectiveness comparison of the more effective method between group discussion and role play methods in improving the Indonesian speaking skill of the students at Thammasat university,Thailand. The research was quasi-experimental. The population was all of the Southeast Asian Studies Program students of Thammasat University, Thailand who took a course in the teaching of Indonesian as a foreign language. The sample was the students at the beginning class. The data collection used the performance appraisal instrument sheets of Indonesian speaking skill. The validity of the instrument was using content validity. The reliability of the instrument examined using the interrater technique. The data were analyzed using Independent Sample Test with SPSS 17.00 for Windows. The result of the research proves that the role play method is more effective than the group discussion method in improve the Indonesian speaking skill of the students of Thammasat University, Thailand. Abstrak Ronde keperawatan merupakan suatu metode dalam pelayanan keperawatan yang berguna untuk meningkatkan pelayanan kepada pasien dan memberikan masukan kepada perawat tentang asuhan keperawatan yang dilakukan. Ronde keperawatan mampu meningkatkan kinerja perawat dalam hal kognitif, afektif dan psikomotor. Pengabdian Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk  meningkatkan kinerja Perawat melalui  pelatihan ronde keperawatan di rumah sakit Royal Prima Medan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama satu bulan, dengan Metode Kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah: Kegiatan I. Melakukan  Forum Group Discussion denganPerawat RS Royal Prima Medan. Kegiatan  II Merumuskan masalah dan melkukan pemilihan Design kegiatan yang dilanjutkan dengan penyusunan Materi. Kegiatan III Melakukan Pretest, yang dilanjutkan dengan Pemberian Materi. Kegiatan IV.  Simulasi, Role Play,dan Kegiatan  V Melakukan observasi dan choaching, Post Test dan Penutupan Kegiatan. Peserta Pelatihan berjumlah 32 orang perawat. Hasil dari kegiatan menemukan bahwa deskripsi kategori kinerja perawat sebelum pelatihan mayoritas kinerja rendah (33,75%) dan kinerja perawat sesudah pelatihan mayoritas kinerja tinggi (42,62%). Berdasarkan uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan kinerja perawat dalam pemberian asuhan keperawatan sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan ronde keperawatan perbedaan nilai mean -31,62 dan nilai signifikansi pvalue=0,00 (p < 0,05).  Kesimpulan ada pengaruh pelatihan ronde keperawatan terhadap kinerja perawat dalam pemberian asuhan keperawatan di rumah sakit Royal Prima Medan.  Kata kunci:  ronde keperawatan, kinerja perawat, asuhan keperawatan  Abstract             Nursing round is a method of nursing services that aims to improve patients services and nurses understanding about nursing care as well. It’s also improving nurses’ performance in terms of cognitive, affective and psychomotor. The outreach aimed to improve nurses’ performance through nursing round training at Royal Prima hospital, Medan. This activity was carried out for one month. There were three activities in this outreach. The first activity was: 1) conducted group discussion forum with nurses staf at Royal Prima hospital. The second activity including identified the problems and selected activities design which continue to make material of the training. The third activity was conducted pre-test and continue to provide material of the training to each nurse. The last activities were observation, coaching, post-test and terminated the activity. The number of participants were 32. The resulf of the study showed that the nurses’ performance before training was low (33.75%). Meanwhile, the nurses’ performance after training was significantly improved (42.62%).Test statistic indicated that there was significant difference between nurses’ performance in providing nursing care before and after nursing round training (Mean -31,62; SD = ); pvalue=0.00; p< 0.05. It can be concluded that nursing round training was positive effect to improve nurses’ performance in providing nursing care at Royal Prima hospital, Medan.  Keywords: nursing round, nurses’ performance, nursing care
