This research is aimed to know whether Role Play Technique is effective in improving student’s speaking skill at 9th grade students of SMP Islam Ruhama Cireundeu. This research is based on the last observation result that the students were still difficult to speak. This research is categorized as Experimental Study. It is carried out to solve students’ problem in speaking. The findings of the research stated that students’ comprehension (66) is the lowest score and students’ grammar (66.5) is the highest score in post test score of experiment class while students’comprehension (72.5) is the lowest score and students’ vocabulary (74) is the highest score in post test of experiment class. The subject of this research is the students of class IX.1 and IX.2 of SMP Islam Ruhama Cireundeu. In collecting the data, this research uses observation and test. Based on the result and the discussion of this research, it can be said that the using of role play in teaching speaking is successful since the crieteria of success were achieved. The criteria of success is there is a significant improvement from pretest result to posttest. The result shows that the pretest average score in experiment class is 66.2 becomes 73.1 in post test while in control class, the significant improvement is only 1.2 (pre test 65.9 and post test 67.1). Based on the result that is mentioned before, the writer suggests that the English teacher should implement a role play in order to improve students’ speaking skill.

This study was attempted to improve vocational students’ speaking skill throughRole Play Technique. This study was conducted by using classroom actionresearch. The subject of the research was class XI EK 2 SMK Negeri 1 Merdeka,Berastagi, consists of 21 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. Theinstruments of collecting data were diary notes, observation sheet, questionnairesheet, interview sheet and tests. Based on the speaking test score, it was found thatthe students’ score kept improving from the first test to the third test. In theorientation test, the mean score was 37.66, in the first cycle test, the mean scorewas 48.33, and in the second cycle test, the mean score was 57.33. There wasimprovement of students’ achievement from 57.33-37.66 about 19.67 points.Based on the data from diary notes, observation sheet, questionnaire sheet andinterview, it was found that the students agreed that Role Play technique helped toencourage them to speak, to express the language through appropriateexpressions, to think that speaking is not difficult. Thus, it was found thatteaching-learning process ran well. Students were active and interested inspeaking in the classroom. The result of the research shows that Role PlayTechnique can improve vocational students’ speaking skill.

This study aims to understand the use of Total Physical Response or TPR method to improve English vocabulary skill of students with mental retardation. Students with mental retardation are students who have an IQ score less than 70 on a psychological test of intelligence; therefore, they have difficulty in learning including learning English. TPR is a fun method to teach students with mental retardation. The subject of this study was eight students with mental retardation of the 11th grade in SLB N Kota Magelang. To investigate the TPR method, the researchers did direct teaching to the students. Pre-test was given before TPR method was employed then post-test was done afterwards. By comparing the pre-test and post-test score, the result shows that the students’ average score increases after the TPR method was implemented. The highest score in pre-test is 90 and the lowest score is 60. Meanwhile, the highest score in post-test is 100 and the lowest score is 70. The average score in pre-test is 71,25 and the average score in post-test is 87,50. It can be concluded that Total Physical Response method was successfully implemented in increasing the students’ English vocabulary skill.

 AbstractPodcast is a digital recording which contains a recorded programs from television, radio, and interviews. Many researchers have discussed about the podcast as an alternative teaching media to support students developing their speaking skills. This research article aims at finding out if there is a significant improvement on students’ speaking skills by using this Podcast. Class XI IS3 was chosen as the sample of this study with total 30 students. This pre-experimental study employs pre-test and post-test. These tests are provided in the form of oral tests. The data from these tests were then calculated by using statistical formulas. The result showed that the post-test score was higher than the pre-test. The finding showed that there was a significant improvement of the students’ speaking skills performance after undertaking treatments. Thus, podcast media can be used as one of the alternative media in teaching English especially speaking skill in EFL classes.

The aims of this research were to find out whether there are good response and improvement of students’ speaking skill between before and after being taught through Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The samples of this research were the VIII A and VIII B class of the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 21 Tangerang in academic year 2015/2016. The researcher used non-equivalent control group design. The instrument was oral test. The result of the research showed that there was improvement of the students’ speaking skill in actively communicative by using CLT. The result of t-test showed that t was bigger than ttable. The result of tcount was 4.2105 and ttable was 2.0021. It means that the researcher’s hypothesis (H1), there is significant difference of post-test scores between experiment class and control class is accepted. The average score of pre-test in experiment class is 67.33 while the average score of pre-test in control class is 66.50. The average of the post-test score in experiment class was 83.00 while the average of the post-test score in control class was 75.00. It showed that CLT can improve the students’ speaking skill.

The background of the study is the lack of adequate vocabulary by students due to lack of vocabulary exercises. The teacher teaches the students based on the textbook and running it to get the target of the curriculum which not paid attention to the students understanding when it caused them tended to be bored. This study was about the application of STAR strategy to improve students’ vocabulary. Thus, this study was aimed (1) to find out how STAR strategy application can improve students’ vocabulary (2) to explain the students’ perception about learning vocabulary through STAR strategy. The design of this study was a pre-experimental method. The subject of this study was first grade students of the senior high school. Furthermore, the data were gained through a test (pre-test and post-test) and non-test (questionnaire). The test was used to know students’ competence before and after the implementation, while a questionnaire was used to know students’ perceptions towards STAR strategy. The significant findings of the recent study were the students’ vocabulary mastery is significantly increased. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score and good responses by students. Students’ average score from pre-test was 22 and the post-test was 73. The t-test score was higher than the t-table (2,09< 13,66 > 2, 86). It was meant that researchers’ hypothesis could be accepted. Finally, the STAR strategy could be implemented practically and pedagogically in improving students’ vocabulary.

This Collaborative Classroom Action Research aimed at enhancing students’ speaking skill through the application of Circle Game. It was conducted in one cycle consisting of two meetings. The subject was the seventh of C class of SMPN 2 Alas Barat consisting of 22 students. The types of data were qualitative (acquiring observation during the learning process) and quantitative (speaking tests). The results qualitatively showed that the implementation of Circle Game enhanced the students’ speaking skills. Such improvement could be seen from their enthusiasm, their interesting feeling in various materials presented by the teacher, their active involvement. In the quantitative findings, the result also showed a higher value of the mean score of the post-test (77.34) rather than the pre-test (75.75). In conclusion, the use of Circle Game can improve students’ speaking skill.

This study aims to improve 3rd grade students’ science learning outcomes bylearning to use visual multimedia. This research method uses classroom actionresearch. The subject of this research was the third grade students of secondsemester of elementary school which conducted 30 students. Based on theresults of research by using visual media, it have been found that theimprovement learning outcome, seen from the initial average score before theaction of 3rd grade class students from 65.5 to 83.83. The results of this studyindicate that with the use of visual media can improve student learningoutcomes.

This study attempts to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMPN 1 Pematangsiantar. The number of the students was 32 students, consisted of 5 males and twenty seven females. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 57.84, for the second test as a post test I was 73.56, for the third test as a post test II was 77.56. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Think Pair Share, Writing, Recount text, Action research

This study was conducted as an attempt to discover the effect of applying Demonstration Method on students’ achievement in speaking skill. It was an experimental research. The subject was students of Grade XII, Vocational High School (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan: SMK), which consisted of 79 students. The research was divided into two groups: experimental and control groups. The instrument used to collect the data was speaking test. To obtain the reliability of the test, the writer applied Kuder Richardson 21 formula. The result of the reliability was 0.7, and it was found that the test was reliable. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The analysis showed that the scores of the students in the experimental group were significantly higher than the scores of the students in the control group at the level of significant m = 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 77, t-observed value 8.9 > t-table value 1.99. The findings indicate that using Demonstration Method significantly affected the students’ achievement in speaking skill. So, English teachers are suggested to use Demonstration Method in order to improve students’ achievement in speaking skill.

This research is aimed to find out the effect of definitions toward students’ vocabulary mastery: it was an experimental study at the second grade student of MTs NW Haqqul Yaqin Sayang- sayang. The subject of this research was the second grade of MTs NW Haqqul Yaqin Sayang- sayang.The research was used experimental method with quantitative approach. The population of this research consist of 55 students, and the sample is 29 for experimental group while 26 for control group. The technique of collecting data was used definition for experimental group and matching word with antonym for control group. The data was collected by using post-test only and the data was analyzed by t-test formula. Based on data analysis the mean score of experimental group was 76,4 and control group was 69,23, beside of that standard deviation for experimental group was 114,28 and for control group was 113,09 and the value of t-test was 2,44 and t-table was 2,000. Degree of freedom is 53 with significant level 0,05. It means that the value of t-test was higher than t-table (t-test ˃ t-table). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, the conclusion of this research was there was an effect of definition toward students’ vocabulary mastery: an experimental study at the second grade students of MTs NW Haqqul Yaqin Sayang-sayang.
