At present, many countries have lowered the minimum age of criminal responsibility to deal with the trend of juvenile crime. In practical terms, whether countries advocate for lowering the age of criminal responsibility along with early puberty, or regulating the minimum age of juvenile criminal responsibility through their policies, their deep-rooted hypothesis is that age is tied to adolescents’ psychological growth, and, with the rise in age, the capacity for dialectical thinking, self-control, and empathy gradually improves. With this study, we aimed to test whether this hypothesis is valid. The participants were 3,208 students from junior high school, senior high school, and freshman in the S province of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). We subjected the gathered materials to independent-samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), linear regression analysis, and Bonferroni post hoc test. The influence of the age variable upon dialectical thinking, self-control, and empathy was significant (p = 0.002, p = 0.000, p = 0.072), but only empathy was positively correlated with age variable (B = 0.032); dialectical thinking ability (B = −0.057), and self-control ability (B = −0.212) were negatively correlated with the age variable. Bonferroni post hoc test confirmed these findings. Therefore, we concluded the following: (1) Juvenile criminal responsibility, based on the capacity for dialectical thinking, self-control, and empathy, is not positively correlated with age. (2) Age is not the only basis on which to judge a juvenile’s criminal responsibility. (3) More research that directly links age differences in brain structure and function to age differences in legally relevant capacities and capabilities(e.g., dialectical thinking, self-control, and empathy) is needed. (4) Political countries should appropriately raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility and adopt the doli incapax principle in the judicial process.

Abstract: Self-control helps junior high school students behave positively towards themselves and others. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the use of local wisdom in the cublak-cublak suweng game to the junior high school student self-control training. The research subjects were 8 junior high school students in Malang City using one group pretest-posttest design. Measurements used the Self-Control Scale and were analyzed by the Wilcoxon test and paired t-test. The results showed a significant difference in the improvement of junior high school students' self-control. Positive values of the cublak-cublak suweng game are internalized so that they can improve the management of their thoughts, emotions, and behavior. The suggestion given is more extensive testing of the same student characteristics.
Abstrak: Kontrol diri membantu siswa SMP berperilaku positif terhadap diri sendiri dan orang lain. The aims of the study is to determine whether there is a role for emotional regulation, self-control, and self-acceptance of students' aggressive behavior at SMP X and Y in Yogyakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach and multiple linear regression analysis. This study uses four scales, namely a scale of emotional regulation, self-control, self-acceptance, and a scale of aggressive behavior. The subjects of this study were 140, consisting of 70 junior high school students at each school X and Y in Yogyakarta. The results of this study have a very significant relationship between the variables of emotional regulation, self-control, and self-acceptance of aggressive behavior in students of SMP X and Y in Yogyakarta. This is indicated by the obtained value of F = 13.924 with p = 0.000 (p <0.01). The R square is 0.235 which if proxied (0.235 x 100% = 23.5%) means that the contribution of emotional regulation, self-control and self-acceptance to aggressive behavior is significant. 23.5%, the remaining 76.5% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. In partial correlation, it shows that the four proposed hypotheses are accepted. There is a very significant relationship between emotional regulation, self-control and self-acceptance of the aggressive behavior of students of SMP X and Y in Yogyakarta, so that the hypothesis can be accepted. The higher the emotional regulation, self-control and self-acceptance, the lower the aggressive behavior, conversely the lower the emotional regulation, self-control and self-acceptance, the higher the aggressive behavior.

The reseracher took 50 students of grade 8 in Junior High School 3 of Wonogiri as the samples of the research. The data analysis applied simple linear regression analysis. Data results showed that the communication style of teacher had significant influence in motivating learning motivation of grade 8 students of Junior High school 3 of Wonogiri so that it can be concluded that the style of communication of teacher took effect significantly in motivating learning motivation of students. However, data showed that there was only 28.2% of the learning motivation coming from the teacher’s style of communication and the rest (71.8%) came from other factors such as internal and external factors (society, family).
