The performance of a table tennis racket is often associated with subjective or quantitative criteria such as the adhesion, the control and the speed. Overall, the so-called performance aims at characterizing the impact with the ball. Ultimately, the polymeric layers glued onto the wooden blade play a key role, as evidenced in a previous work where the normal linear (no spin) impact of a ball onto polymeric layers was experimentally and numerically investigated. In this work, more realistic loading conditions leading to varying the incident angle and spin of the ball, were explored. While the sole linear restitution coefficient was determined in the anterior normal impact study, new physical metrics were identified to describe fully the trajectory of the reflected ball after impact. A companion 3D finite elements model was developed where the polymeric time-dependent dissipative compliant behavior measured with dynamic mechanical analysis and compression tests was accounted for. The confrontations with the experimental data highlighted the key role of the polymer intrinsic properties along with the friction coefficient between the ball and the polymer external layer.

The importance of microarrays in diagnostics and medicine has drastically increased in the last few years. Nevertheless, the efficiency of a microarray-based assay intrinsically depends on the density and functionality of the biorecognition elements immobilized onto each sensor spot. Recently, researchers have put effort into developing new functionalization strategies and technologies which provide efficient immobilization and stability of any sort of molecule. Here, we present an overview of the most widely used methods of surface functionalization of microarray substrates, as well as the most recent advances in the field, and compare their performance in terms of optimal immobilization of the bioreceptor molecules. We focus on label-free microarrays and, in particular, we aim to describe the impact of surface chemistry on two types of microarray-based sensors: microarrays for single particle imaging and for label-free measurements of binding kinetics. Both protein and DNA microarrays are taken into consideration, and the effect of different polymeric coatings on the molecules’ functionalities is critically analyzed.

The audit process is essential to ensure the accountability of local government financial reports.The phenomenon in Indonesia, especially in the financial statements of local government arevery few local governments that receive unqualified notes of CPC. The role of internal audit intospacious with new concepts and rules that developed among other things, software COBIT. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the role of internal audit and the impact of InformationTechnology on data management processes using COBIT to the role of internal audit in BPK. Themethod used is descriptive qualitative. Data were collected by interview, documentation andobservation. The interviews were conducted by two members of the internal audit in BPK. Mechanical analysis of data using the Interactive model analysis. The results of this study are;First, the role of internal audit is not only limited to the examination, but also performs manyfunctions and consulting services in order to improve the performance of CPC. Second, the auditor can use Audit Guidelines as an additional material to design audit procedures. In short, inparticular COBIT guidelines can be modified easily, according to the industry. In conclusion IT asa bridge between the risks of IT with the control needed ( IT risk management) and also the mainreferences were very helpful in the application of IT Governance in the CPC.Keyword: Internal Audit, COBIT and CPC.

Due to the emergence of sub-7 nm technologies, next generation CMP slurry formulations have continued to increase in additive (nanoparticle and chemistry) complexity to meet stringent device specifications. Therefore, it is essential to probe the molecular level interactions at the nanoparticle/slurry chemistry/substrate interface and in turn correlate them to key performance metrics such as removal rate, post CMP defects, and planarization efficiency. This work will address key interactions through a series of case studies focusing on the role of supramolecular structure and cleaning method (i.e. contact vs. non-contact) during STI post-CMP cleaning, probing the impact of supramolecular structure and mode of cleaning relevant to Cu post-CMP, and development of a biomimetic matrix with chemical activity to act as a brush in STI post-CMP cleaning processes. Results show in both BEOL and FEOL post-CMP cleaning there is a strong correlation to the delivery and “soft” nature of the chemistry to allow for effective particle removal at low mechanical force and prevent further defect formation. Furthermore, this work shows a clear correlation between supramolecular structure and particle removal efficiency under both contact and non-contact post-CMP processes.

The paper presents results of empirical study on elite international athletes and Polish coaches working in the Polish top table tennis clubs. It focuses on foreign players and investigated Polish the perceptions of coaches with regard to the differences between sports cultures in foreign players’ countries of origin and Poland, and their consequences for efficiency of sport training and competition results. Major research findings concerned Chinese athletes. Another issue analysed in the paper concerns on-going discussion on the limits, costs and benefits of introducing international players into national sport leagues. Based on the research results and literature review, we analyse the perceived impact of foreign players on the table tennis training system in Poland, relationships between Polish and foreign players and the role of international players in club competition. Applying qualitative research allowed the authors to present the insights and views of the investigated athletes and coaches, and to analyse problems occurring in the sport careers of international sport migrants a sport discipline that has hitherto not received much scrutiny.

In this work, the equations of motion for table-tennis balls were numerically solved on graphics processing units (GPUs) using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) for systematical statistical studies of the impact of ball size and weight, as well as of net height, on the distribution functions of successful strokes. Half a billion different initial conditions involving hitting location, initial spin, and velocities were analyzed to reach sufficient statistical significance for the different cases. In this paper, an advanced statistical analysis of the database generated by the simulation is presented.

This research examines the impact of autonomy on the behavior of participants faced with an authority figure. More specifically, it examines obedience behaviors and behaviors related to subterfuge, as studied by Milgram in his work on obedience to authority. The protocol used here is a new measure of obedience and disobedience which allows us to record compliant behavior, withdrawal from the activity, and sabotage (subterfuge). A total of 105 participants, separated into groups, were asked to perform a tedious and pointless task (copy down a page from the telephone directory) after their autonomy had been assessed using Beck’s Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale. Only one participant refused to participate. The results show that autonomy is associated with disobedience. This study suggests that individuals faced with an authority figure show greater freedom than has been suggested by previous experiments, producing less visible forms of disobedience than the refusal to participate. The nature of the measure of obedience is discussed, particularly because of the role of attention in the activity.

Abstract We describe an optical fibre-based method to estimate impact force and collision duration using time measurements recorded from acoustic signals of a table tennis ball bouncing on a table. The technique combines measurements obtained from a polarisation dependent optical fibre sensor with graphical analysis and kinetics through numerical calculations. The presented coefficient of restitution, collision time, impact force, and elastic deformation during each bounce of the table tennis ball were obtained using corresponding time series measurements and numerical analysis. A peak impact force of 38.4N was estimated for a ball of mass 2.83g and 39.7mm diameter dropped from a height of 31.5cm. The impact duration for the associated bounce was 0.68ms with a centre of gravity shift of 0.40mm and coefficient of restitution of 0.88. While the observed results are unique to the ball and table surface, the approach is an attempt to fully quantify collision parameters from basic measurement and instrumentation applicable to undergraduate students. The sensor developed in this paper finds application in sports performance monitoring, infrastructural health early warning systems and pressure sensitive manufacturing processes.

Two studies examined the impact of macrolevel symbolic threat on intergroup attitudes. In Study 1 (N = 71), participants exposed to a macrosymbolic threat (vs. nonsymbolic threat and neutral topic) reported less support toward social policies concerning gay men, an outgroup whose stereotypes implies a threat to values, but not toward welfare recipients, a social group whose stereotypes do not imply a threat to values. Study 2 (N = 78) showed that, whereas macrolevel symbolic threat led to less favorable attitudes toward gay men, macroeconomic threat led to less favorable attitudes toward Asians, an outgroup whose stereotypes imply an economic threat. These findings are discussed in terms of their implications for understanding the role of a general climate of threat in shaping intergroup attitudes.
