We have synthesized polyaniline/ZnO-based (PANI/ZnO) multiphase composite photocatalysts from acid media by a newly proposed two-step in situ polymerization. The first step of synthesis yielded PANI salt required for the PANI/ZnO synergistic effect. In the second step, the aniline oxidation continued, without ZnO dissolution, and it produced PANI base. Thus, both PANI salt and base phases in the composites were detected by FTIR and UV/Vis, while the presence of both ZnO and PANI polymer was confirmed by XRD. Additionally, XRD also showed Zn5(OH)8(NO3)2·2H2O and Zn(SO4)(H2O) phases in PANI/ZnO-based multiphase composites. Furthermore, the impact of the synthesis conditions on the morphology of the composites was investigated by FE-SEM. The images displayed that ZnO particles were encapsulated in PANI sheets that were formed by the aniline oligomers. Photocatalytic evaluation of PANI/ZnO-based catalysts (i.e., degradation of Acid Blue 25 dye) was conducted and the obtained results confirmed that all the studied composites experienced the PANI/ZnO synergistic effect. It was observed that the best photocatalytic properties were held by the PANI/ZnO_2 sample due to its optimal particle size.

AbstractIn this work, we modified nylon 6 with liquid rubber by in-situ polymerization. The infrared analysis suggested that HDI urea diketone is successfully blocked by caprolactam after grafting on hydroxyl of HTPB, and the rubber-modified nylon copolymer is generated by the anionic polymerization. The impact section analysis indicated the rubber-modified nylon 6 resin exhibited an alpha crystal form. With an increase in the rubber content, nylon 6 was more likely to generate stable α crystal. Avrami equation was a good description of the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of nylon-6 and rubber-modified nylon-6 resin. Moreover, it is found that the initial crystallization temperature of nylon-6 chain segment decreased due to the flexible rubber chain segment. n value of rubber-modified nylon-6 indicated that its growth was the coexistence of two-dimensional discoid and three-dimensional spherulite growth. Finally, the addition of the rubber accelerated the crystallization rate of nylon 6.

The self-healing polymer material which was embedded microcapsules possesses the ability to heal cracks automatically. The microcapsules were synthesized by in-situ polymerization in an oil-in-water emulsion with urea and formaldehyde as the raw shell material, and epoxy resin (E-51)/ xylene as the core material. The impact of stirring speed on the morphology and particle size of synthetic microcapsules were discussed by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR).Microcapsules of 400~1500 um in diameter were produced by appropriate selection of agitation rate in the range of 300~600 r/min.

Palygorskite/polyacrylamide (PAM) composited thickeners were prepared via in-situ polymerization. To optimize the preparation, the dependence of the viscosity, rheological properties and electrolyte resistance of the composited thickeners on the initiator concentrations, sodium hydroxide concentrations and palygorskite contents was investigated. By measuring their dynamic rheological properties, thickening mechanism of composited thickeners was explored. The composited thickeners showed excellent electrolyte resistance which represented good synergistic effect of inorganic/organic composited thickener.

Zeolite / MC nylon 6 composites were prepared , followed by morphology and properties characterization of composites. The results demonstrated that a large number of pearlitic structures appeared at the interphase between the organic phases and the inorganic phases, indicating that caprolactam had happened anionic in-situ polymerization within the zeolite. The zeolite played a role of molecular rivet in zeolite / MCPA6 composites. The experimental results also showed that the composites performances were largely improved compared with pure MCPA6. When zeolite was 1 Phr, the impact strength of the composite was increased by 58%, temperature of thermal decomposition was rised by 92.9 °C. When zeolite reached 5 Phr, the composite shrinkage rate was reduced by 33%.

In this paper, self-healing PUF microcapsules were prepared by in situ polymerization. The test results show that: 1) the ratio of core/wall material can had a significant effect on the average particle size of microcapsules. The ratio happens to be 1.0 to 1.0, best coating, relatively dense surface can be achieved. When the ratio reaches 1.4 to 1.0, the microcapsules have worst coating, particle size, distribution of wide range, and comparatively rough surface. When the ratio is 0.8 to 1.0 or 1.2 to 1.0, preferable coating, uniform particle size and its distribution, as well as smooth and dense surface can be obtained. 2) The faster the stirring speed, the smaller the particle size of microcapsule will be. And the size becomes bigger and varied with the stirring speed decreasing.

This work reports the facile fabrication of graphite embedded polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composites with the help of in-situ polymerization and investigates the impact of graphite fillers on their mechanical and thermal characteristics. The extensive characterization is performed with the help of FESEM, TGA, and DSC. Mechanical properties are investigated with the help of compressive test. It investigates the possibility of manipulating the PDMS properties by unswervingly modifying the concentration of conductive graphite nanofiller, which improves filler dispersion in the PDMS and increases the interaction of graphite nanofillers with PDMS, thereby enhancing the mechanical and thermal characteristics of the manufactured composites. The current study investigates the impact of graphite concentrations ranging from 2.5%–20% on the mechanical properties of pure PDMS polymer during compression testing. Further, the thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat of graphite-embedded PDMS were around 82%, 505% and 1040% respectively higher than that of the pure PDMS, while the mechanical properties for the compressive module as 3.2 MPa to 4.9 MPa with the elastic behavior up to 40% strain.
