In this contribution, the three Mn-Zr catalysts with MnxZr1−xO2 hybrid phase were synthesized by two-step precipitation route (TP), conventional coprecipitation method (CP) and ball milling process (MP). The components, textural and redox properties of the Mn-Zr hybrid catalysts were studied via XRD, BET, XPS, HR-TEM, H2-TPR. Regarding the variation of synthesis routes, the TP and CP routes offer a more obvious advantage in the adjustment of the concentration of MnxZr1−xO2 solid solution compared to the MP process, which directly commands the content of Mn4+ and oxygen vacancy and lattice oxygen, and thereby leads to the enhanced mobility of reactive oxygen species and catalytic activity for toluene combustion. Moreover, the TP-Mn2Zr3 catalyst with the enriched exposure content of 51.4% for the defective (111) lattice plane of MnxZr1−xO2 exhibited higher catalytic activity and thermal stability for toluene oxidation than that of the CP-Mn2Zr3 sample with a value of 49.3%. This new observation will provide a new perspective on the design of bimetal catalysts with a higher VOCs combustion abatement.

The kynurenine pathway (KP) is the main route of tryptophan degradation whose final product is NAD+. The metabolism of tryptophan can be altered in ageing and with neurodegenerative process, leading to decreased biosynthesis of nicotinamide. This fact is very relevant considering that tryptophan is the major source of body stores of the nicotinamide-containing NAD+coenzymes, which is involved in almost all the bioenergetic and biosynthetic metabolism. Recently, it has been proposed that endogenous tryptophan and its metabolites can interact and/or produce reactive oxygen species in tissues and cells. This subject is of great importance due to the fact that oxidative stress, alterations in KP metabolites, energetic deficit, cell death, and inflammatory events may converge each other to enter into a feedback cycle where each one depends on the other to exert synergistic actions among them. It is worth mentioning that all these factors have been described in aging and in neurodegenerative processes; however, has so far no one established any direct link between alterations in KP and these factors. In this review, we describe each kynurenine remarking their redox properties, their effects in experimental models, their alterations in the aging process.

Purpose This paper aims to explore the relationship between the concept of the learning organization and that of the co-creation of value. Design/methodology/approach The paper is conceptual in nature and draws on data from a case study of a small highly innovative Australian company. Findings The authors show that, from a value co-creation perspective, the learning organization can be viewed as an open, collaborative, social/economic actor engaged in social/economic activities with other interdependent actors (organizations or stakeholders) in a network or ecosystem of actors to serve its mission/purpose and the well-being of the ecosystem. Research limitations/implications As a conceptual paper, the authors rely primarily on previous research as the basis for the argument. The implications of the findings are that, as value co-creation practices are founded upon the generation and leveraging of specific intangible capital resources, more research located in alternative research paradigms is required. Practical implications There are important implications for organizational leadership in that the practices that underpin value co-creation require the leadership to be able to work constructively with multiple forms of systemic and agentic power. Social implications In increasingly turbulent and hyper-competitive global operational contexts, sustainable value creation is becoming recognized as a collective achievement within a broad eco-system of collaborators. This has implications for the relational capabilities of all collaborators. Originality/value The authors introduce a new perspective on the role of power management in the facilitation of the co-creation of value. Arguing that value creation is becoming recognized as a “collective achievement”, they focus on the collaborative practices that enable such an achievement.

In this work, a ceria (CeO2) support was modified with titania (TiO2) by nanocasting using MCM-48 as a hard template and then loading Cu (as the nitrate salt) at different levels (3–9% by weight) by deposition-precipitation followed by calcination. The addition of TiO2 in MSP CeO2 revealed that the MSP CeO2 was significantly improved the oxygen vacancies of the catalyst by increasing the Ce3+ content from 38 to 75% and stabilizing the Ce3+ species by bonding with the oxygen as Ce(4f)-O(2p)-Ti(3d). Moreover, the bonding of MSP CeO2 with TiO2 generated the oxygen defect vacancies (s–Ti3+), allowing Cu2+ to occupy and be reduced to Cu+ during calcination. The smaller CeO2 crystallite size (2.7 nm) of 9Cu/CeO2–TiO2 increased the mass-specific CO-Oxidation, showing the best catalytic activity due to its highest redox properties, as determined by H2-TPR and also showing resistant property to water and carbon dioxide. Indeed, water was adsorbed on the Ce3+ sites, generating OHads which reacted with CO to form –COOH, resulting in CO2.

AbstractThe CuZn superoxide dismutase (SOD1), a member of a group of isoenzymes involved in the scavenger of superoxide anions, is a dimeric carbohydrate free protein, mainly localized in the cytosol. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in many pathophysiological events correlated with mutagenesis, cancer, degenerative processes and aging. In the first part of this mini-review the well known role of SOD1 and ROS are briefly summarized. Following, a potential novel biological action that SOD1 could exert is described, based on the recent researches demonstrating the secretion of this enzyme in many cellular lines. Moreover, the role of impaired mutant SOD1 secretion, associated with cytoplasmic toxic inclusion, which occurs in familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is summarized. In addition, a depolarization-dependent release of SOD1 in pituitary GH3 cells and in rat synaptosomes through a calcium and SNARE-dependent mechanism is reported.

Fe-Mn oxide and Ce-doped Fe-Mn oxide nanosized particles were studied on the structural and catalytic activities for SCR. The catalysts were characterized by TEM, TPR and BET study. Analysis data show that the addition of Ce improves the reduction performance of Fe-Mn species. It was found that the Ce promoted samples exhibited much better activities for SCR of nitric oxide with ammonia because of the promotion of the structural and redox properties.
